Marcus Ball recruited out of junior college by SEC, ACC schools
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Former AJC Super 11 player Marcus Ball of Stephenson appears headed back to Div. I. After two years at Florida State, Ball transferred to Pearl River Community College (Miss.) this past fall and was named first-team All-American as a safety.
Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Clemson and Florida seem to be the leaders. He is scheduled to finish his academic requirements in May. Ball is the younger brother of former Georgia Tech quarterback Reggie Ball.
“If there was a better player in our league, I don’t know who he was,” Pearl River coach Tim Hatten told the Clarion-Ledger of Jackson, Miss. “He’s like an NFL player. He’s got a linebacker’s body at safety and an aggressive nose for the football. He’s the best defensive back we’ve had here. By far.”

Watching Marcus Ball for 10 years, he is an EXCELLENT player. Has all the tools and more. Just hope he has changed some of his bad illegal habits. Out of that group I say Ole Miss will get him.

For all SAs considering Georgia Tech, consideration should be given to our outstanding academic reputation as well as our superior Athletics. We also have outstanding Tickle Piles which some of you will certainly enjoy. If it’s not you cup of tea, no problem.

Marcus is a punk. Watched him get in a fight, drunk as can be, at a high school GIRLS BASKETBALL game. Trouble will follow him.
LOL at “Who’s get the pitch man”- good stuff & true. Milk the unexpected win cause I don’t think you’re going to get 45 points again for quite some time.

If the Gators take a guy who was going to flunk out of Florida State, does that mean the Gator fans have to quit bragging about how much better of an academic a univesity UF is vs. FSU?

Fortunatley, Tech did not recruit him. 4 yrs of the other Ball was enough, thanks to Chan the man. To borrow a line from another poster whose name escapes me, “Thank God Almighty and Greyhound that Chan & Reggie are gone forever!”, after doing immeasurable damage to our program on the Flats. However, full recovery is in effect thanks to PJ.

workinDawg…you are likely correct, we probably won’t get 45 again…but then, without Stafford and Moreno, ya’ll won’t get 42 again either. I like Tech’s chances next year.

If you want to know if ANY school is better than another school, consult U.S. News and World Report’s Rankings of American Universities(If tou don’t like that source there are about 20 others). You will find that all of these sourses are remarkably similiar in their rankings. I’m not going to say what the dominant opinion of these sources is towards FSU—I’d rather have those interested read it for themselves—-but I would personally take a reasoned and unbiased perspective over an unidentifiable blog messenger.

Read It, I don’t have to read any magazine—although I do suggest people check it for confirmation—I already know by the kids in my neighborhood who have been accepted. The sole requirement for FSU appears to be ability to pay the minimal tuition. If you are a Music major. it will behoove you to know who composed “Beethoven’s 5th” and to know there are two types of scales. One you weigh yourself on and the other—Oh, forget it.

Hey, it is 2009! You guys need to get off Reggie’s case. He played his heart out for Ga Tech. Unfortunately, he played for a coaching staff that had no problem asking him to do more than he was capable of doing. Reggie was a dual-threat quarterback and they plugged him into a pro-style, dropback passing offense. That is Stafford’s deal, not Reggie’s. How would Stafford look running Tech’s flexbone? Reggie would have put up some mean #s if he would have been playing for Paul Johnson. Reggie, get your knee healed up and good luck with your career.

What about the guy goin and vandalizing the hospital? wasnt it like 4 or 5 grand worth of damage. Wes, Go to Barnes and Nobles, Borders, Walden’s. Go anywhere and pick up ANY guide to universities in America. I implore you!! Check it out. The people compiling these rankings have no agendas. They rank the schools based upon SAT scores of incoming freshmen, class ranks of incoming freshmen, class size and just a whole lot of criteria. If you can find ONE book in America that ranks FSU as anything more than a marginal school—-PLEASE!!! Name the book here and i will go find it and write a formal apology. I don’t think you will. Georgia, Miami, Florida, Tech, Clemson—well, virtually every school in the ACC and SEC—of course there is Mississippi State and Ole Miss—is higher ranked than a school employing a senile demented, name forgetting, driving restricted, pathetic old man that doesn’t realize his striking resemblance to the lead character in Weekend At Bernie’s. Just how does this fossilized piece of excrement tell any kid that he WILL be there the next two years. The 79 year old has a myriad of health problems and I’m not even mentioning the age related defecits in cognition. Recruit, If you’re smart enough, go find an actuarial table and look at the possibility the Reverand Robert Bowden will be alive in 2 years. Think YOU will be surprised. Of course nobody with an IQ in double digits would be surprised.

I must admit that I’m shocked at the lack of effect that 2 National Championships and 2 SEC Championships in the last 3 years and laying of the foundation at Utah is having upon kids this recruiting season. I understand all kids wanting early playing time—and when you return your top 33 on defense that is daunting—but I’m surprised that the type athlete Meyer is recruiting seems intimidated by the challenge. If I was a 4 star or so and had reasonable doubt about my ability, I could see shying away. BUT if I’m a 5 Star stud, wanted by everyone and with the ego to go along with my status AND I liked Florida(Now, if you don’t like it that’s a different story)—I just can’t understand shying away. If you don’t like Meyer—Fine. If you didn’t like players on your visit—Fine. If you have a particular area of study that isn’t a match—Fine. If you’ve found a school in a plush area offering you female and monetary inducements too overwhelming to turn down—Fine. BUT if you’re too scared to compete—GUTLESS!!

id be upset too if we were preseason number one and continuously dropped each week. UGA’s best chance at a championship with stafford and moreno goes down in flames. U dont have to have high SAT’s to know that. Beat Hawaii in a bowl and get a free preseason number one ranking. One thing we know that uga does not know, how to beat florida more than three times in 20 plus years. thats what id be learning how to do

Wes, The only thing you have to do is to get the Regents(Board of Trustees) at FSU to listen to the clamoring by influential alumni(of whom I know many) who want the Father of the Unemployable Four Sons to be gone. FSU has been intimidated by Senor Liver Spots into not getting rid of him. He has said that he will lay the “I built them so I can oversee the dismantling” card on the table and FSU is afraid of the negative publicity.
Robert will expire on the field or while still tokenly employed as the Coach In Name Only. He sincerely believes he will follow in the “footsteps” of the Bear and be dead soon after quitting. The Fractured Fossil often says “Only ONE BIG event awaits after retirement”. He has been giving FSU that middle finger for about 6 years now whether it relates to circumvention of state nepotism laws or now saying that he didn’t really agree to quit after 2010. The man is a DOG who had the audacity to fly up to Boulder after the Colorado Sex Scandal and basically say that raped woman may have been asking for it. He has also intervened with an assault victim to get her not to press charges, he has “prayed for a misdemeanor” in the Dilliards Case, he allowed Deion to not attend school his final semester—This resulted in the “Deion Rule” promulgated by Florida legislature that says college athlete MUST be enrolled in college. He has recently overseen an academic fraud case that the NCAA is about to drop the hammer on. The man is GARBAGE with my apologies to contents of trash cans everywhere.

dont know if this is what your lookin for sideline, but this has UGA at an avg of 949 and a rank of 22nd. Although FSU is not on this list, they are higher than michigan state who is tenth from last, so they are at least higher than 917. Dont see much difference in there even if UGA is ahead. But if u read further it says UGA has an average GPA of 2.77 which is 45 out of 53 teams. It also says that 73.5 percent of uga atheletes were “special admits.” if theyre so smart then why the need for that. And sorry dude, Florida and two other SEC teams are in the bottom ten.

Wes(Dude), NO!!! I’m not looking for football stooges GPA’s. I’m looking for the SAT scores of incoming freshmen. I’m also looking for the acceptance rate(and by extension, who is applying). I don’t give a rat’s rectum nor do I judge the worth of an institution by the performance of some people who are only matriculating because they can play football or basketball. AND when you look at the CLOWN majors that many of these guys are pursuing, Well, I would bet that even Jeff, Tommy, Terry, or Steve(The embezzling son nobody talks about) could have a 3.00GPA in “Auburn History:Related To Extracurricular Activities of Coaches”

Dear Wes, The BEST argument FSU has for the NCAA difficulty is to say that “Bobby was not aware of what was going on”—Game. Set. Match.
Do you believe Jimbo is really going to hang around as “Coach In Waiting” if Bobby decides to recant on the agreement that has Jimbo taking over in January 2011?? Bobby is going NOWHERE. Well, he will go somewhere on a gurney(hopefully not on the field). Ask people who know him. He is terrified of retiring. He believes he faces the exact same fate as Bryant I believe it is more about that palpable fear than the All Time Coaching Wins. I believe even someone as delusional as Bobby realizes that the 27 wins at Samford should not be included. Also the word is the NCAA is basically going to just negate the 07 Season which will cost him 7 more wins. By the way, if Bobby gets to count the wins at Samford(Including one over the UNIVERSITY of MEXICO) then NOBODY is beating Eddie Robinson at Grambling.

yeah he will leave after 2010 unless bobby is gonna pay the 5 million that jimbo will be owed if he isnt coach by then. I think we both know the school wont do that. And talk about delusional, where do get all this info about Bobby bein in such bad shape. The man is a machine, as good as health as a 79 yo can be, unlike JoePa. You should like Bobby bc if not for him you would still have donnan instead of richt. If ur a UGA fan then u should know that richt constantly calls bowden the greatest man he has ever been around. And negate the 07 season, thats just absolutely ridiculous, you have awful sources. We already punished ourselves and called the ncaa on ourselves, you see much more punishment than we already gae ourselves, maybe a scholly or two. And u still didnt respond to UGA basketball doing the same thing a few yrs back

And for him to bash an 1165 avg SAT, i dont think that that is too bad, especially when uga was a 1210, 45 points higher. wow such a big difference.but ur right burnt, i dont care about that crap either, except for myron rolle getting to be a rhodes scholar. thats an achievement, no matter what college ur at

Well said, TECMOMUDMAN
Most of the “fans” that post on here couldn’t make the middle school football team (at their current ages) much less earn a D-1 scholarship. I’ve said the same about Reggie in the past. He would have shined in our current system but was placed in a bad situation by the ever-dim Chan Gailey. The fact that he beat out AJ Suggs and Taylor Bennett as a true freshman says a lot about Reggie’s determination as well as AJ’s and Taylor’s defeciencies. Reggie is one issue that shows the true colors of some of GaTech’s fans. They’re not much better than Redneck U (UGA) when it comes to Reggie. Idiots!!!

The ONLY people who care about the perception and reality of a university are the people that actually received a degree from the school. The S. Florida cretins who follow Miami could not even be accepted into DeKalb County CC. So obviously why would they care about the stature of the school. I have always believed that people who ACTUALLY have 4 year degrees from schools they follow do NOT call people Semenholes, Gayturds, UGay or any other of a group of expressions more indicative of Deion Sanders discussing quantum physics with Terrell Owens.

It is a shame these big power house programs could less about character. It is all about winning, ignoring the cintract they signed and moving on to the next multi million dollar contract. Please note this is not to be taken as an indictment against all players being recruited by the power house teams, only a few, so please do not say I am trying to cast a pall on all of them. They don’t have to make us preseason #1, we blow out TeBlow and the rest of SEC and then hand it to Yech in Atlanta. We the best they ever was. Go Dawgs. woof woof woof

Cite your sources JT. Because anyone that’s seen and heard Michael Johnson give an interview has to have SERIOUS doubts about how he was able to survive hanging out Tech for 5 years. But judging from the few buddies I have that played baseball at Tech it’s no mystery to me.

Hey GittemTech: Ball can”t come to Tech. Idiot he just got out of (barely) a remedial JC program in Mississippi. This indicates that he doesn’t possess the brains to even get in Tech. He could probably get in the finest basketweaving/PE academy in the nation: that famous football factory, home of the 2009 National BCS Champs (oops, no, I’m sorry that was one of those OTHER schools that kicked UGA’s butt). Who else but UGA could guarantee Ball a job at the Waffle House making hash browns upon receiving his certificate, I mean diploma?

gobees,
Little Ball is just as “intelligent” as big Ball. Funny the excuse all four years Tech had Reggie as their QB was that he was an idiot and that’s the only reason UGA won. He couldn’t even count how many downs there were. But yet, he was still a STUDENT ATHLETE.
The hole keeps getting deeper and deeper for idiotic Tech fans on here. So funny

For the record Thug U is Miami. Funny, UGA has seen 10x the arrests of any other school and yet their non-alum fans can skew the facts.

Wow, Tech beats UGA once in 8 years and all of a sudden you’re world beaters.
For the record, Tech is playing a rapist next year. Something Richt would not, and has not, tolerated

TechSux, Your a MORON! Coach Richt would play anybody, if it gave him a better chance to win..
I can’t believe we are still talking about Reggie. I would have to say that Reggie was a very good athlete. If his coach had been worth a CRAP, he would of had Reggie in the RIGHT position! It would of helped Reggie’s chances to play at the next level, and it would have helped GT’s team.

Braves Fan79-Dosent is spelled doesn’t-when you get on here calling people dumb but you can’t spell or don’t know the proper way to use contractions, it makes you look stupid. I think I speak for most of us alumni of these schools when I say you should take your rascist azz someplace else. We’re passionate about our schools but we don’t need folks like you stirring up sh!t.

Tech,
We are not ashamed to have the best gymastics squad in the nation. Nor are we ashamed to have the #10 football team. Nor are we ashamed to have only lost to you once in the last EIGHT YEARS.
Speaking of gymnastics, I looked at team the other day and all I could say was “how bout THEM dogs”.

Poor Yech. They’re entire base is miserable. Just like Liberals, they finally get their President (Yech finally beats UGA) but yet they’re still pi$$ed off at the world. Almost as though they’re mad at their mom’s for even having them in the first place. Thank God I’m not a socially inept Yechie!! :)

It sad that people have to take negative shots at Marcus Ball, Marcus is a fine young man and he will do well. He’s not a thug. He’s a mature young man. Those of you who write these negative blogs are cowards. In addition to being a coward, you are racists.
