Recruiting roundup on junior college prospects

Here are updates on five former high school standouts from Georgia who attended junior colleges:

Defensive end Derek Slaughter of Mt. Zion and safety Hiram Atwater of Southwest Dekalb are both bound for Alabama-Birmingham. Slaughter matriculated at Coffee County (Kan.) Community College, while Atwater was at Garden City (Kan.).

Defensive end Jonathan Massaquoi of Central Gwinnett signed again with Troy after making honorable mention All-American at Butler County (Kan.) while offensive tackle James Carpenter of Hephzibah has enrolled at Alabama.

Meanwhile, former Norcross standout Tyrece Gaines appears headed to either Oregon or Arkansas. Gaines was second-team All-American as a wide receiver this past season at El Dorado (Kan.).

Tyrece would be a great fit at Arkansas, with five star Ryan Mallett throwing him the football. Tyrece could put up big numbers there.
