Lowndes DB Greg Reid breaks ties with Florida Gators
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Lowndes defensive back Greg Reid had a whirlwind day on Tuesday, which included the surprising decision to eliminate Florida from his list of finalists.
Reid, the AJC’s Player of the Year, said that now that he had a couple days to think about last weekend’s official visit to Florida, he really didn’t enjoy it.
“It didn’t feel like home anymore,” Reid told the AJC on late Tuesday night. “I wish the Gators the best. It’s just not the place for me.”
Things are changing so quickly for Reid that he said there was only three things he knows for sure: Florida State is one of his finalists, he will take an official visit to UGA on Jan. 30, and he will announce a college decision on signing day (Feb. 4).
In another turn of events, Reid said he will likely visit Tennessee rather than Alabama this weekend. “They [Tennessee] have been with me longer than Alabama.”
Also, Florida State, Auburn and Alabama sent coaches to meet with Reid on Tuesday. Reid said Auburn “is growing on me more every day” but has yet to agree to take an official visit with Tigers.
What happened with Florida? Here’s the long version: Reid committed to Florida nearly one year ago, then backed off it earlier this month because he felt he rushed his initial decision.
Unfortunately for Florida, Reid played a few days later in the Under Armour all-star game, winning defensive MVP honors with two interceptions. Reid’s life hasn’t been the same since, with countless colleges traveling to Valdosta to enter the recruiting sweepstakes.
Reid said Florida coach Urban Meyer was upset during last weekend’s official visit, and let him know about it. “He asked ‘Where were all these other schools before the Under Armour game? Did they even know who Greg Reid was as a sophomore and junior like we [Florida] did?’ [Meyer] spoke in a very powerful [tone].”
However, Meyer wasn’t too torn up to rescind the scholarship offer, and tried to get him to commit again before leaving campus on Sunday, according to Reid. But after having a couple of days to reflect, Reid decided to eliminate Florida.

Hey Secondguesser,
Woops, i spelled it right. Your zubaz hat must be on a little too tight.. he kept the offer on the table. You owned us this year, be humble and move on! As for your coach, he’s a smug lil p*@%&. I’d honestly rather be just the winningest program in the sec since 2001 than win titles if he was the coach. These kids are starting to see it, he doesn’t care about making them men, he cares about his name. I’m starting to think he’s worse than spurrier.

Well, at least one recruit realizes what a scumbag sleezeball Meyer is. He is probably FSU-bound but hey, that beats UF.

Awww. Someone is jealous of the #1 program in the country. Reid is about to make the mistake of a lifetime by not going to Florida. If he winds up in Athens, he’ll be underdeveloped just like the rest of UGA’s “star” recruits over the years. Take your unknown / unvalidated stats. I’ll take my titles. Go Gators.

Ckgator, Quit whinning. You’re just sore about losing Aaron Murray. T**-for-tat. Meyer’s Personality ouzzzzes arrogance. It is apparently becoming a big turnoff for future recruits. Maybe he should leave the recruiting up to his assistants since he can’t believe that someone would not want to have the honor of playing for HIM!! Imagine the gaul of some recruits! I expect Meyer to jump to the NFL after Tebow leaves to save face anyway. Give Meyer credit for knowing where his bread is buttered.

Greg Reid is exploring his options … as well he should. I think it’s down to FSU and UGA. I think in the end it will be UGA. UGA needs him and he needs UGA. He will play early and often at GA and will be a star. He’ll get prime time SEC exposure and will play in big games. He’ll play under a quality coach and will progress quickly. Bobby Bowden will retire soon and the FSU program will be in the reorganization mode for awhile. Georgia is stable and CMR will be around as long as he wants to coach at Georgia. IF Greg Reid weighs all the factors and makes a quality decision and not just an emotional one …. it will ge UGA. Greg, when you sign on the dotted line at Georgia … tandem with Branden Smith … you’ll see your stock store and your future brighten. We want you at Georgia and hope you want us.

If you’re not a a Gator you’re Gatorbait!
I guess being on a winning team isn’t of much importance to Mr. Reid than it’s about Mr. Reid.
I guess nobody has informed Mr. Reid about F$U’s imprending 3 yr probation….
Imagine the good things F$U is doing with a full load of scholly’s. Now imagine 4-5 less per year for the next 3 years.
And for UGAly we all know they’re only going to win once every 4-5 years.

Hi, I am Greg Reid. I am a Gator. No, I am not a Gator. Oh, I am great. I am really great. I am the best. I think I will visit Alabama. No I lied. I am not going to visit Alabama even though I told Saban I would. I went to Gainesville this weekend. That jerk of a coach, Urban the Crier, told me I should start being honest with him. Honestly, who does he think he is. Imagine that. Asking me to be honest with him…and he was serious about it, too. The FSU coaches aren’t like that. They told me how great I am. I am great. I am better than great. I am too great to go to Alabama or Florida. Those teams and their coaches are losers for not realizing how great I am. I will take my greatness to Georgia. No, maybe I will take my greatness to FSU. No, I think I will now visit with my greatness to Tennessee. They like my greatness now. How great is that. I am so great. Florida now sucks. Meyer is a jerk. Alabama now sucks. Saban is a jerk, too. Maybe I can get some free shoes from FSU. Hey, I will get to play in the great, Orlando Bowl if I go to Georgia. Sucks, I probably will take my greatness to Tennessee and stay home for the bowl season. All I know is that I am great and Florida and the coaches there, especially that sorry coach, Meyer, are not great. They just win National Championships and create a team approach to winning…and who wants to be a part of that “family” stuff down there. That stuff is not for great players like me. Oh, that is Valdosta State on the phone. I won’t have to leave Valdosta if I go there, and the people in Valdosta already know how great I am. Maybe I will go there now. Because I am so great!

Redneck takedown.UF doesn’t care about Murray. He made his choice and now nhe will go home and face UF fans as a loser at least 3 out of 4 years.
UF is also stacked at DB.What I said about Murray goes for Reid.Doesn’t matter if he goes to F$U or UGA.

The difference is simple: Urban Meyer let Reid know he was doing Greg a favor ‘allowing’ him to play for UF. Georgia is the opposite: Greg: we want you and you are helping us by coming to Athens.
That’s the difference in Meyer and Richt.
FSU is a great team, but Greg— it’s the ACC. The SEC is the major leagues.

As a Gator fan, I’m not happy that we’re not going to pick up Greg Reid, but I can see why he made this decision.
It’s been very clear that Greg wants to play early and then he’s going to bolt for the NFL as soon as possible. Any team like UGA, FSU, or UT will need to understand that going in. With Janoris Jenkins, Will Hill, and Joe Haden all returning next year, Reid was probably concerned that he would get buried on the roster and possibly only see playing time on special teams in year one. Regardless of whether that would be the case or not, that’s what I think was his primary concern.
I have to agree with Meyer, though; there wasn’t all this interest that there suddenly has been from other schools since his performance at Under Armour week. I know other schools have shown interest, but it never really seemed serious because it looked very apparent that Reid was totally committed to UF. Meyer was only asking for an explanation, this was Reid’s decision to change his mind, not Meyer’s. Meyer is a good coach and is a good leader of young men despite all those who want to paint him in another light; 2 national titles in 4 years and one of the highest graduation rates in SEC history this past season should show that.
I hate to lose Reid, but I think the Gators will manage. Jenkins, Haden, and Hill are all underclassmen that played in the national title game and I think they’ll manage without him.
Good luck, Reid, wherever you decide to go. He was very impressive to watch on the prep playing field.

This guy is playing all of you and the schools like a banjo. This guy woke up the other day and decided that he wasn’t getting enough press. He had committed to early. All of the accolades were being heaped upon others that were less skilled then him because he was off of the boards. He had committed to early. He wants to feel important and needed again, you know… He was lacking something that only a big dose of limelight can cure. But alas, he committed to early.
You have been following the rest of the story. But now I’ve got to wonder… Is this guy this years idiot thats going to dick around and miss out on a scholly ? Or is he going to call ESPN to come to the Lowndes County Gym on signing day where they can film him sitting at a table with a half dozen hats.
To bad that all of the coach’s involved do not have the brass to take their offers back.

Whether he plays of UF, FSU, or UGA - its about time someone held this kid’s feet to the fire.
Whatever happened to making a commitment and keeping it?
Too many coaches promise too many things to recruits. Wear this number…guaranteed to be a starter…etc… Its absurd. For once, I am glad to see a coach try to hold the kid accountable.

Go on and admit it, you are sick to your stomach about Reid rejecting you and your coach. All these statements about Reid knowing that he wouldn’t stand a chance playing for the next 2-3 years is hogwash and you know it. Greg Reid will be a great player somewhere where the coach has immediate needs in the secondary or is willing to promise him he will start as a true freshman. Reid is not willing to pay his dues, work hard, improve and compete for a starting position against the Gators excellent returning BCS Championship winning secondary. As Dirty Harry said, “A man has to be aware of his limitations” and evidently Greg is! It’s evident that getting to the NFL ASAP is his priority, not a great education Urban has the integrity not to lie to him, just to get him. Good luck Greg!

The Gators do not want a player who is afraid to compete against quality players at his position. He can probably start at Georgia; at Florida he would ride the bench. Good for the Gator Nation since that will free up a scholarship for a competetive, quality player; the type we have gotten used to seeing in the orange and blue. Get him prepared to consistently lose in Jacksonville, like the rest of you dogs have.

Don’t need him - don’t want him. Florida has “team players” not “legends in their own mind”. I don’t care where he goes. Just by everything I read and hear, he wouldn’t last at Florida, IF he can even qualify to get in. Obviously, commitments don’t mean anything to him. When we “offered”, we stood behind that. There was nothing wrong with Coach Meyer wanting clarification - are you coming or not. I’m glad Reid finally had the nerve to say he wasn’t coming. That opens up a scholarship to someone who WANTS to be a Gator!!!

Glad that he’s gone. He will be more at home with FSU anyway. The truth is very simple. Florida is two deep on defense right now with very good players. Absolutely ridiculous. Just go ahead and admit that not every great player wants to play for UF. It’s okay. Maybe the kid really just didn’t like the school, the coach, the team, or any other factors.
The kid is a beast and ANY school would be lucky to have him. I think even Urban Meyer understands that-which is why he recruited him so hard. How can you knock an 18 year old kid for trying to make an educated decision about where he’s going to spend the next few years of his life? I hope he decides to be a Bulldawg. Can you imagine what our secondary would look like in a couple of years with him and Branden Smith?

I don’t think it had anything to do with Meyer since everyone knows he’ll be in South Bend for his “dream job” after Tebow is done. I don’t think Reid liked the idea of redshirting and then playing for Zook V.2.
Man its gotta suck when your coach is just desperate to get the hell out of town and on to bigger and better things. When you consider that SOS left for DC and Meyer will leave for the south coast of Lake Michigan, you just gotta know that Gainesville, FL is a complete s$*t hole. I mean Meyer is from Cleveland, OH and he finds Gainesville to be lower than his standards. That’s like a prisoner walking out of Angola Prison, showing up at your house and saying “man this sucks!” The Swamp? He better stick with the Gators. Florida is at the bottom of the college list when comparing general student population entrance test scores to the athletes they grant special admittance (and he will be a special admittance at any school). Which says if you are can run, jump and carry a football it doesn’t matter if you’re dumber-than-dirt, you can still get into Florida. Humm, guess that means Oklahoma got beat by a group of DAs. Based on the game with Grayson, he appears to be a high school version of Terrell Owens. Schools want team players not individuals that can’t handle pressure.

Florid Fan(masked as greg go ga tech) How many aliases do you have? Why don’t you have the guts to stay as one tag name? Your UF is riding a high right now but is due largely to Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin and DC Charlie Strong. One of these is gone next year and one the year thereafter. One player like, Greg Reid, can the difference maker. That is why you and others are whinning so. I know it must be hard to accept Reid rejecting your HC and your program. I know that it must be too hard for one to believe this fact but stop the dising of this young man. Coining him as not a team player and any southern team that he believes would in the end be better fit for him. I believe our new recruit DB Branden Smith would greatly welcome him to be “team player” here at UGA!

This is a ridiculous sideshow on display from all of you. He’s a kid… he’s going to do some stupid things and some smart things in his life. There are some harsh words coming from both sides here. I understand why all the “UGAlies/puppies/buttsniffers/etc.” talk trash, and why the “classless Gator fans and Urban Crier lovers” retort with their own.
Greg Reid has been a battle between UF and UGA for a couple years now, and it’s understandable why Meyer was upset after lots of time put in recruiting, as well as with past Reid quotes like “I’ve been a Gator all my life,” and even being the first commit for UF this year, thought all year to be the closest thing to a lock.
Whether it is playing time, academic qualifying (don’t be surprised if he’s not at UF, UGA, FSU or UT next season) or just general lack of chemistry with UF now, the decision is all Reid’s, and in the grand scheme of things your lives won’t change a bit. Recruiting is fun, dramatic and almost always over-the-top, but remember it’s all just high school kids. Comparatively, it’s better than ‘The Hills’ and that’s for sure. Best wishes to the Orange and Blue on the recruiting trail, best of luck to Greg Reid, and see you Dawgs in JAX next year.Go Gators.

Greg,
Have you seen the UGA depth chart at your position? There is no doubt that you and Brandon Smith can be starting against Okie State. Or at least see ample playing time. Plus the fact that you WILL be our staring punt and kickoff returner from day one. Please take serious note of that. Asher Allen went pro and there are only a few guys left with any experience ahead of you at CB. We might just have the best D in the SEC with your signature.

Ah whatever…I actually wish the young man luck. He’s a kid. I’m a die hard Gator, but my son can go anywhere that he feels gives him the best shot. He saw a freshman in Jenkins and Haden on the other side as a soph…plus Jeremy Brown who before he was hurt last year impressed just like Jenkins in mini camps, so he didn’t want to wait. I get that. I hoped the bond he forged with Andre Debose in the under armour game would hold, but it didnt. We lost out to Eric Berry, who is probably the best safety in the nation…he’s a Vol like his old man watching bowl games. We’ll be okay…believe that
The Urban hate is hilarious…sounds just like the hate we got when SOS was dominating the SEC. No one is hating Richt…but they hate Pete Carroll. Wonder why???
As for all the other nonsense SOME of these UGA fans are talking…we’ll see you in Jax on route to the chip AGAIN.
LOOK…You have Murray coming in and he’s solid..hope he doesn’t do a Marve…the phenom from Tampa Plant high school that also won a title like Murray. Stafford was on the same level as Tebow coming in…as was Mustain who is now at USC. They were considered 1a,b & c at the position. Stafford will be the best pro, but seems like our guy is winning the college battle. in other words, it remains to be seen…

I think the deal here is that Reid was a solid coommit for over a year and that UF depended on that in a class with limited scholarships available and didn’t heavily recruit as many DB’s.
Reid committed before the season when the Gators were coming off a year with an atrocious secondary.
Things changed when the Gators lit it up 4 underclassmen DB’s this year. Barring injury, Greg Reid would have to be phenomenal to pass Janoris Jenkins or Joe Haden for a starting spot and would need to wait until he was a junior. Also, Greg Reid is not a wonderful student athlete and sees the NFL as his only path to success. Getting on the field rearlier makes more sense from that standpoint also.
For Greg Reid, the choice to split had definite logic. But he should have rethought things a lot earlier.
Meyer’s chewing him out was well deserved in it’s own right as the yound man had gone back on his word. He probably told Reid to s**t or get off the pot so UF wouldn’t be left hanging on Feb 4th. Smart move.
Wherever Mr. Reid winds up, he’ll be playing the Gators every year and it will be interested to see how those matchups go. I’m sure that the Gators will go after him with a little extra zeal.

Gator fans, don’t start knocking, hating on the kid. All of a sudden he wouldnt’ve been an asset to the program, would get buried on the depth chart, etc now that he’s no longer interested. Yeah right. Anybody who saw the UA All-American game could see he has great natural DB cover skills.
Georgia fans, I wouldn’t get too high on the news because I have a feeling he’s headed to FSU w/ his former teammate.

He is a great player to watch that makes me feel good. I hope whatever he decides he and all the great players out there will be blessed. It’s a big decision and the atmosphere is different under one coach versus another and the campus itself and the people you see and meet has an atmosphere to consider. He has to sort that out for himself. Take time, walk around, visit, pray, decide and see what happens… Blessings.

When it all comes down to it, this kid needs to make the decision which he knows is best for him, and that means that it is a decision that won’t be the best for the University of Florida or any other school he decides not to attend. Unfortunately, some coaches just can’t see that.
Some may call it selfish, but why shouldn’t he be able to make a decision that is going to have a profound impact on the rest of his life. Coaches these days are pressuring kids to commit early on at the beginning of the process because they get to impress and glorify the kid first. It would be very hard to resist coaches of the pedigree as Meyer, Richt, Bowden, etc. at the beginning of the recruitment process when all schools have not been able to get involved yet. Schools have to do a heck of a lot of research, count their projected scholarship numbers, evaluate the depth chart to see how many players they need at each position, etc. Thus, its understandable why schools got involved later on in the process, which was not at the Under Armour game. These kids get phone calls from coaches every week even when they are committed, and Reid even took a visit to UGA during the regular season where coaches talked to him about his interest.
Ultimately, he realized that he needed to see some other schools which is his decision to make. Meyer chewing him out is unacceptable. If Meyer was smart, he would have encouraged the kid to go visit and let him see why UF was better than the other schools he was to visit. However, Meyer chooses the low road and tries to guilt a kid about his “word” and how long that they have recruited him, which is just more pressure from an adult trying to force a young man’s life in a direction for the benefit of Florida when he should be more concerned about the young man making a decision that ultimately sits right with him.
As fans, we are prone to berate kids for changing their word, but a majority of us have never been through the process and only have a limited perspective. Lay off the kid and let him make the choice that he comes to terms with as the best for him.

He is qualified, got his scores recently. He’s eligible. So cut the smack talk down on his grades folks.
Urban doesn’t baby anybody and is as upfront with any player- heisman or 3rd string. For people who claim he is such a jerk, he doesn’t have too many transfers out and ask Louis Murphy how he was there for him when his mother passed.
Richt is a great coach too, but it sounds like you UGA FANS got a misconception of reality.
Urban has as many SEC titles & WAY MORE NATIONAL TITLES than Good ‘ol Mark. & Last time I check when you break team rules at UF you get kicked off (Cam Newton) if you break rules at UGA, you got at least 2 more freebies. Urban is a no bullcrap type of guy.
Reid is doing what’s in his best interest & FSU develops DB’s better- check the resume & trust that GREG WILL PLAY WHEREVER HE GOES- they don’t make many true corners & he is one

When it comes to recruiting, sometimes high school kids have a far better handle on reality than some adults.
Saw the fan’s comment that this recruit is ‘making the mistake of a lifetime’ by not going to Florida.
Really? The mistake of a lifetime? Whose lifetime — Greg Reid’s or your fantasy ‘wish-i’d-been-athletic’ lifetime?

Florida won a mythical national Championship. They were not the best team in the nation and neither waas Oklahoma. That was the poorest excuse for a national championship ever. If there would have been a playoff neither one of those teams would have won. It’s sad the BCS is so horribly wrong for Football. I actually for the first time ever enjoyed watching pro football better than college. I hate to even admit that but until it becomes more about the game and the players instead of greed and money more people are going to continue to feel the same way.

@Ckgator
You mean all the other underdeveloped players are Florida right? Because if not, I’d find it funny that there are actually more former UGA players on current NFL rosters than Florida players.
And as far a jealousy goes, I’m not jealous of Florida at all. I actually find if amusing that after Florida’s dominance since the early 90’s that UGA still leads the overall series. Sure you’ve owned us for nearly 20 years, but we TOTALLY owned you for the 40-60 years prior.
Ever read the “Great Gatsby”. I compare Florida and its fans to the Neuveau Riche. Came into a lot of money quickly but have no class and understanding of what it takes to get there. I compare UGA, Bama, Tennessee, LSU…even Auburn to the Old Money. They appreciate the heritage and what it took to get there. You know programs that had been winning SEC Championships since the conference was founded. Unlike Florida who hadn’t even won a single SEC ring until Spurrier got there.
And as obnoxious as UGA, Tennessee, LSU and Bama fans can be at times, most carry their pride with class and dignity. That can’t be said about Florida or its fans. You guys are like the little 15 year old punk that just moved into the neighborhood that you don’t want you daughter to hang around. Priceless!
So you Florida fans keep piping off, because your time is coming. All things, particularly sports, run in cycles..ebbs and flows. And recruits are starting to see what most adults/fans have seen in Urban Meyer from the start. He is a pompous, overzealous, arrogant prick that will get what is coming to him. And well deserved at that. He pushes the envelope of ethics in recruiting like the Moore kid from Cali last year and sooner or later he will get caught. And that will be just after he bails and head to Notre Dame, his and I quote “Dream Job”.
So jealous, NO! Laughable, YES!

greg said on the radio show last nite he was heading to Alabama,,,,for a visit this weekend,,,then his last official is to UGA the end of the month. said not to count anyone out and his decision would be a shocker, doesnt matter to me where he goes as long as the young man carries himself well and like us lowndes fans know he can do. while he has caught alot of heat for some actions, the young man has always been a class act around my family and me after the ballgames with “yes sir’s” and “no sir’s”. he didnt have to be that way,,,he just was right off the bat.
again greg, go to the school you like, not where you feel you have to bc some adults who dont have your best interest at heart want you togo to. go and get your education, play ball on saturdays and represent the state well. never forget where you came from (take a lesson from randall godfrey and youll be a-ok). matter of fact,,,i believe youve talked to randall,,if not,,,get in touch,,im sure he’ll offer some insight and offer to help you in any way he can.

I agree with 89 Viking that Greg Reid is a good person. Mannnnn, did he provide some outstanding entertainment for us these past three years!!!!! He is the best high school player I have ever seen.
I do hope he decides to go to UGA. I think he will get more playing time early in Athens than anywhere else. And together with the other cornerback who committed to UGA during the Under Armor game, they’ll make a great tandem of CB’s. And with so many UGA people living in Valdosta, he will always have lots of opportunities for rides back and forth to Athens.
Congratulations Greg, I’m glad to see you get all this much deserved attention!

Typical Gator arrogance. Question the all mighty Gators and you’re just a jealous hater. Dare to back away from a meaningless verbal commitment and you’re a selfish thug and a failure in life. Look at all these trailer trash Gator morons trashing this young man like they actually know him. Like they just had it all figured out when they were 17 years old. What a bunch of dolts.
Hey Gator fans, if I’m so jealous, why is it that you’ll never see me trashing Nick Saban or Pete Carroll or Mack Brown or….The list of highly accomplished coaches with more integrity in their left pinky finger than Meyer has in his entire body goes on and on. Meyer is a complete and utter disgrace to the coaching profession. Please look me in the eye and tell me this guy has one ounce of loyalty to the University of Florida. I need a good laugh. Urban Meyer is all about one thing and one thing only: Urban Meyer. You’re being sold up the river Gator nation. This guy would bail on you at the drop of a hat and take his crystal ball trophies with him. Please do not claim that you weren’t warned.

There is a lot more to this picture than meets the eye.
No recruit who makes a commitment to a team one year removed from a national championship, who then sees the team win another national championship after he makes his decision, would defect:
1) to a school that is in the expresslane to probation with a coach who has NO CHANCE of catching Paterno now and therefore no incentive to even win any more, or
2) a school which was given the national championship to lose (consensus preseason #1) and couldn’t handle the pressure (and that was with first round draft picks Stafford and Moreno).
Greg Reid didn’t suffer any concussions during the UA game. Either this is a sensational stunt being played on UGA and FSU or Greg Reid dun lost his mind!!!!!

Hey Skydawg! We don’t care who won games when Herbert Hoover was president. If you go back to 1950, which includes All of the Dooley years when UGA was breaking rules every year, the GATORS own this series. All you can mention anymore is the overall series record. Yes, you won more games in the 20’s and 30’s but WHO CARES?
Georgia is UF’.s biotch and everybody north of Jacksonville knows it. Little whiny Greg Reid is about to become UF’s biotch as well. Say what you want about Meyer, but he has done more in 4 years at Florida than Richt has in 8 years at Georgia. 2 National titles in 3 years.
Greg Reid, you can go eat sh|t you little mother fvcker. Enjoy life on the 2nd or 3rd best team in the east every year.

Seriously, why would any team want this kid? He’s scared of competition. Period. End of story. Anyone who things otherwise is fooling himself.
If it is the depth chart at UF that concerns him, then that is a clear sign he is mentally weak and unsure whether he can “cut it” there. Of course, what he fails to realize is that all schools in his final list (Bama, UT, FSU, UGA) all recruit stellar athletes and he’s going to face competition wherever he goes. And if he thinks he’s going to be given a job anywhere, he truly is an idiot - he’ll have to earn his PT at any school.
But, obviously, if he feels he’s “owed” immediate PT, this is the type of person who won’t work hard and will simply expect things to be handed to him. He’ll end up being a cancer at whatever school he chooses.
And most of all, I love that his lies are accepted as truth. Coaches give ultimatums all the time (commit or we are moving on). Reid didn’t commit and UF moved on. His choice and their choice. Same thing happened last year with Z. Sanders and both UGA and UF and with numerous other players. Because when a kid drops his alleged favorite team growing up over something he won’t get anywhere (guaranteed PT) it is obvious to anyone with half a brain that he got an ultimatum and chose to ignore it and they dropped him. And if you don’t believe me, ask Reid to show you his UF LOI come NSD - I bet he won’t have one because they will not have sent one to him.

Meyer may have lucked out not signing this kid. Look’s like from his comments, he may be the next Pacman Jones. If he can’t take constructive criticism from the coach, then maybe Tennessee or some other school that wants to kiss his a$$ is the place for him.

Yeah, right Urban is a strict disciplinarian. How many times did Marcus Thomas get caught smokin’ weed before he was booted? And it was the University that booted him from school. Urban took no action to remove him from the team.
I’ll give you that he’s a very, very good coach, but don’t tell me you’ve got a great human being there, ‘cause you don’t. Smart, competitive, driven? Yes, but he has the soul of Gordon Gecko.

Usually in cases like this, there is some type of payment going on from the school. In this case it is Florida, and you have to believe that based on the records of that institution, that maybe it is going on again.
If the kid changes his mind, so be it. If he goes to Tn or somewhere else, then he goes there. If he comes to UGA, then be glad then too! If you Gatros are so upset that you have to tear down a kid for what he has chosen to do,then you need to grow up.

Sounds a little indecisive to me. Jumped early at UF, pulled out, going to FSU, no wait Alabama, uh, no Tenn. I see him two years and out at UT or FSU. UT after Lane proves to be a disappointment and FSU after Bobby retires in 2011. He goes to Florida and he’s going to sit two years, so he’d probably be disenchanted. End result, he’s going to end up and transfering to Marshall anyway!

Greg Reid committed to Florida after the Michigan melt-down. At the time, seemingly, he would have an outstanding chance of starting for a below average secondary. This season played out much different than anybody expected and now with 22 deep returning on a stellar defense, recruiting defensive players seems like an impossible task. If I was as good as Reid thinks he is, I would be going somewhere else where the concept of NFL preparation is first and the concept of team, graduation, and paying your dues never comes up! Didn’t Asher Allen declare for the NFL draft?

Oh well, think he’s making a major mistake but it’s his life and i’ll keep up with him wherever he plays because I’m a Reid fan. I just wish he hadn’t talk to the AJC so much and just went on about his business and respected all the recruiting programs until signing day. Wow i can’t believe this kid does’t want to play for the best team in the nation just because Urban Meyer came at him straight. Greg if you’re reading this really think about your decision. And just know that all these schools are going to make you so many promise to get you there, but are they really being honest and have your best interest at heart. I think Meyer was so tough on you because he knows that you will be a great player, and at least with Florida you knew they were genuine with wanting to recruit you from the start. i hope you don’t think that all these coaches from here on are going to be soft. This is going to be the toughest thing that you’ve ever done. Don’t let your pride get in the way of you playing for a great program. Kind of like the beginning of the season with the Vikings. You know what I’m talking about. I think you really need to think about it some more before you just completely throw UF away. They’ve believed in you from the start unlike all these other programs. You really let UF down. Think of all the time and energy they spent recruiting and believing in you. Think about it.

Yes, the Gators lead the series since 1950. That includes all the cheating Dooley years when half the team could not read. That also includes the years when the Gay Player, Herschel was there. Go back and look at the record and tell me I’m wrong. Since Truman was president, UF owns the Dawgs!
Greg Reid will not qualify for UF or UGA. The kid is also a THUG as he proved in the quarterfinals when his team got beat. After recruiting, we will never hear about this kid again until he gets arrested.

I love how Urban Meyer and UF dominate this series in recent history and yet to the average poodle fan, Urban is a punk, unclassy and my personal favorite- “worse” than Spurrier. Dawg fans say Richt is: such a great coach, great Christian man (probably true), great sport (completely untrue), and even classy (again untrue). Every fan base dislikes their rivals but come on, UGA fans are the biggest babies! Fact is that there is a talent gap between UF and UGA. That is really your beef with Meyer! Dem dawgs are simply inferior right now on all levels and I am thoroughly enjoying how much it eats away at the red and black faithful!!!! Good luck to Reid where ever he goes, he should do fine. Urban knew how good this kid was from very early on and the staff WILL find a replacement at least as talented. There is no penalty for using all (3) TO in a half folks. Just a reminder though; there is definitely a penalty for orchestrating an the field celebration. Lesser competition would have bit on that crap and began a brawl. Why not? Because UF players have more class than that!

Realize that the only thing a coach can give a recruit is the “opportunity” to play. The recruit’s performance on the field will determine whether he stays on the field. Israel Troupe was given that same opportunity.

Greg Reid wants to play in the NFL someday, anyone with any football knowledge knows florida doesn’t produce NFL players, in the last 20 years 1 (Emmitt Smith) Florida player has made an impact in the NFL and Georgia has the 3rd most players in the NFL of any school. Meyers system may be great for college but his players suffer later in life when they try to make a living with what he taught them, look at Alex Smith the biggest bust since Ryan Leaf.

After reading the Georgia scorecard for success, I now realize what a stellar program sits in Athens. Players who play for 4 years, graduate, collect lots of championship rings and have a life after football are actually losers. The guys that come in to get their touches, play soft as not to threaten their career at the next level and gain publicity for themselves and are moving on ASAP are the great ones. WES All I’m saying is that FSU didn’t recruit Reid, Florida did. I never once said FSU didn’t know who he was. I’m sure lots of teams knew about him but they really didn’t show much interest until the Under Armor game. So, yes Urban did have a good point. I think Florida was really genuine about wanting to recruit him much earlier than all the rest. The rest just kind of jumped on the Greg Reid bandwagon. Rightfully so. Reid, should go to georgia with all the other pro prospects. He goes to Auburn to a down program or Alabama who will be on probation again. Reid is like all the other uga prospects with dollar signs in their eyes. Go Seminoles!

Amen, Bullgator. My prayers are answered. Greg Reid would have been another Marcus Thomas. Reid, go on down to FSU, you fit the program better down there. I hated the way you Gator chomped opponents all year and had all those Viking fans wearing Gator t-shirts in the stands. Most people in Valdosta know how you really are.
