Lithonia will have 10 seniors sign scholarships
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Despite a 2-8 season this fall, Lithonia coach Clifford Browning expects nine of his 10 seniors to sign football scholarships.
“This is a good start for us, and it puts our program in the right direction,” said Browning, a first-year coach and Lithonia alumnus. “We have a lot of pride in our seniors and our school.”
Browning said Julian Bellinger, Marvin Gary, Korenski Jones, Jabrill Hightower, McVandy Falise, Jesse Landji, Rockshawn MacNeal, Alexander Wright and Isaiah Browning all plan on committing.
He said Landji, Wright and Browning have signed or will sign with West Virginia Tech. Hightower has signed with Lane College. Gary will go to Alabama A&M and Bellinger will most likely sign with Middle Tennessee State.

Grayson OL Harrison Clottey gets visit from Bill Curry
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Grayson’s Harrison Clottey got a visit from Georgia State coach Bill Curry on Wednesday, and the offensive tackle hasn’t wavered on his commitment to the Panthers. Clottey will be a part of Georgia State’s first recruiting class and said he doesn’t mind that the team will not play until the 2010 season.
“I feel as if every football player, once they’re done playing high school, they always want that extra year to get better training,” Clottey said. “I’m getting a whole year to get more acquainted with the offense. I feel blessed.”
Clottey is a Bill Curry fan.
“He came to see me … it went good. I feel every time he speaks to me, I feel he’s really speaking with meaning. That excites me and that was a real factor on me deciding on going to State.”

Lowndes DB Greg Reid breaks ties with Florida Gators
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Lowndes defensive back Greg Reid had a whirlwind day on Tuesday, which included the surprising decision to eliminate Florida from his list of finalists.
Reid, the AJC’s Player of the Year, said that now that he had a couple days to think about last weekend’s official visit to Florida, he really didn’t enjoy it.
“It didn’t feel like home anymore,” Reid told the AJC on late Tuesday night. “I wish the Gators the best. It’s just not the place for me.”
Things are changing so quickly for Reid that he said there was only three things he knows for sure: Florida State is one of his finalists, he will take an official visit to UGA on Jan. 30, and he will announce a college decision on signing day (Feb. 4).
In another turn of events, Reid said he will likely visit Tennessee rather than Alabama this weekend. “They [Tennessee] have been with me longer than Alabama.”
Also, Florida State, Auburn and Alabama sent coaches to meet with Reid on Tuesday. Reid said Auburn “is growing on me more every day” but has yet to agree to take an official visit with Tigers.
What happened with Florida? Here’s the long version: Reid committed to Florida nearly one year ago, then backed off it earlier this month because he felt he rushed his initial decision.
Unfortunately for Florida, Reid played a few days later in the Under Armour all-star game, winning defensive MVP honors with two interceptions. Reid’s life hasn’t been the same since, with countless colleges traveling to Valdosta to enter the recruiting sweepstakes.
Reid said Florida coach Urban Meyer was upset during last weekend’s official visit, and let him know about it. “He asked ‘Where were all these other schools before the Under Armour game? Did they even know who Greg Reid was as a sophomore and junior like we [Florida] did?’ [Meyer] spoke in a very powerful [tone].”
However, Meyer wasn’t too torn up to rescind the scholarship offer, and tried to get him to commit again before leaving campus on Sunday, according to Reid. But after having a couple of days to reflect, Reid decided to eliminate Florida.

UGA and Oklahoma dispatch coaches to Kansas on Tuesday
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
It’s an all-out recruiting war between Oklahoma and UGA for wide receiver Cameron Kenney, and Tuesday’s battle took place in Kansas.
Both Oklahoma and UGA dispatched assistant coaches on Tuesday to Kansas, where Kenney plays at Garden City Junior College.
First up was Oklahoma co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell. “He was checking on me,” Kenney told the AJC late Tuesday night. “He wanted to know where I stand with Oklahoma. I told him hopefully I’ll have a college decision after this weekend.
“[Norvell] just emphasized that Oklahoma was losing three starters at wide receiver and they were looking for guys that could come in and play right away. He reminded me that they have the Heisman Trophy winner [Sam Bradford] coming back, and they expect to compete for the national championship again next year. He feels like they have so many pieces in place to win it all, he just needs some wide receivers.”
Then Kenney said he spent a couple of hours with UGA assistant Tony Ball. “He said they lost a great quarterback with Matthew Stafford, but they feel really good about Joe Cox for next year. [Ball] said they felt like [UGA wide receiver] A.J. Green was going to be double-teamed a lot next year, leaving other wide receivers open to make big plays.”
Kenney is scheduled to arrive at Georgia for an official visit on Friday. “I let Oklahoma and Georgia know that I’m pretty sure I’ll know what I’m going to do after this weekend.”

M.L. King’s Joel Kight eliminates Tech after Auburn offer
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
The recruitment of M.L. King running back/defensive back Joel Kight took an unexpected turn on Tuesday when he eliminated Georgia Tech from consideration after picking up a scholarship offer from Auburn.
“[Auburn] coach [Gene] Chizik called with the offer,” M.L. King coach Corey Jarvis told the AJC. “It really didn’t shock me because I had heard some speculation last week. But I didn’t want to say anything until it became official.”
Kight met with Tech linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary on Tuesday. Jarvis disputed the persistent chatter that the Jackets’ offer to Kight had expired.
“Georgia Tech didn’t pull the offer,” Jarvis said. “In fact, coach B.J. came to the school [on Tuesday] and Joel told him that, with Auburn offering, he’s cutting it down to Auburn, Oklahoma State and Ole Miss.
“Joel is scheduled to visit Auburn this weekend.”
Jarvis said Kight’s desire to play defense in college contributed to his decision to eliminate Tech from consideration.
“I think it was more of the idea of him playing running back [at Tech],” Jarvis said. “Auburn is interested in him at linebacker, or possibly safety.
“And I think he didn’t want to stay in Atlanta. I think he wants to be close to home, but just not that close.”

Buford’s Sachais commits to Georgetown
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Buford defensive end Andrew Sachais committed to Georgetown after visiting the campus.
“The atmostphere was electric,” the 6-foot-2, 230-pound senior said.
Sachais chose the Division I-AA school over Ball State, Yale, Air Force, Wofford and Pennsylvania.
“I had the opportunity to play Division I, but it came down to academics,” he said. “And the D.C. area is amazing. I really fell in love with the place during my visit.”
Sachais was a two-year starter at Buford, finishing with 18 sacks.
