UGA’s first two commits, Dexter Moody and Washuan Ealey, visit Athens

ECI linebacker Dexter Moody and tailback Washaun Ealey were Georgia’s first two commitments for its 2009 recruiting class. The two teammates made official visits together to UGA over the weekend, Moody confirmed.
Ealey is one of the most accomplished high school tailbacks in state history, drawing some comparisons to Herschel Walker. Ealey rushed for nearly 8,000 career yards and set state records for career and single-season touchdowns.
But some consider Moody to be the better prospect, as he could end up playing linebacker or defensive end (where he started at ECI) in college.
UGA coach Mark Richt traveled to Twin City last week to discuss academics with both players. Ealey told the AJC both he and Moody are closer to meeting college entrance requirements.

I BELIEVE WASHUAN WILL BE ANOTHER KNOWSHAUN. HAVE YOU SEEN THE FILMS ON THIS GUY? I KNOW ABOUT CLASSIFICATION COMPETITION … BUT “WE” IS THE REAL DEAL. I THINK HE WILL GET SIGNIFICANT PLAYING TIME NEXT YEAR. THERE ARE CERTAIN ATHLETES WHO ARE WINNERS … AND HE IS A WINNER. I HOPE HE’S NOT REDSHIRTED … AFTER A COUPLE OF YEARS AND A SPLENDID CAREER … HE’LL PROBABLY FOLLOW “KM”. I THINK WE’LL BE GLAD WE GOT WASHUAN FOR RUNNING BACK. I THINK HE’LL BLOW BY KING AND SAMUELS. I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO ANOTHER HERSHEL….

I think this is really pathetic. The minimum NCAA Clearing house requirements to play college sports are on the level close to being “mentally impaired”. I’m not criticizing anyones intelligence, but how in the heck is a kid going to succeed in college if they can’t succeed in HS? College is supposed to be the step to prepare a kid for life. The only way this will work is for them to take joke classes with “football friendly” professors so they can keep their grades up to play football. I think it’s a disservice to the kids and that’s what gives a college the bad reputation they have. I’m happy that these kids have an opportunity to go to college which they would not otherwise have. I just think it’s a shame that in doing so they will not be focusing on what’s most important for them to succeed in life. They should make these kids go to a prep school to show they can handle the workload before ging them football scholarships.

Somebody help me out here. ECI, is that a private school? If so, why are they so far behind in their learning curve? Thanks

As a public school teacher myself, i know that standardized test don’t truly reflect if a kid will learn in college. the reality of the situation is that some kids are just terrible standardized test takers. It’s a mental thing. I think these kids will be ok, but they may need to go to prep school to get some extra help. there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone does not learn the same. Now for football. No one is talking about Dontavious Jackson getting snaps at running back. This kid has a blend of power and speed that I think will put him right up there with Caleb and Samuels. Has anyone seen this kid lately? He is a specimen. Ealy will probably red shirt and caleb, samual, dontavious will get the majority of the carries this year.

Paddy, ECI or Emanuel County Institue is not a private school. They are a public school in tiny Twin City, Ga near Swainsboro which is near Statesboro. Don’t know why they call themselves an “institue”. Anyway I agree that someone such as parent(s), school admin. or Ealey himself is asleep at the wheel if this kid doesn’t qualify for college entrance. He has been a top GA prospect for at least two years.

Ealey, and Moody, are two excellent Class A football players. Probably Moody is a little better all-around prospect than Ealey. But, did you see the state championship game against Wesleyan? They did not show up very well, and their conduct was atrocious. Mark Richt will not put up with that type attitude, I hope. Too much influence from the Pros as to action and attitude. Let’s get back to character building and team building.
