Perry OL Johnnie Farms unsure if he will make up Central Florida trip

Perry offensive lineman Johnnie Farms, a North Carolina commitment, cancelled his official visit to Central Florida this weekend.

“I decided not to go,” the 6-foot-3, 285-pound offensive tackle said. “I just felt like staying home. It was my grandfather’s birthday.”

Farms, an AJC Super 11 selection, said he did not know if he was going to make up the visit. “There is no real point since I’m committed to UNC,” he said.

However, you can never count out Farms for providing recruiting surprises. He initially tried to commit to Alabama, but the Crimson Tide said they were full at his position. He then picked South Carolina, but switched to North Carolina, in part because “the education was better [than South Carolina].”

Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier traveled to Perry, to defend his school’s academics and try to convince Farms to take an official visit. Farms said he would think about it, then later declined. Farms then said he would take an official visit to Central Florida and was thinking about going to Auburn, but then did not visit Central Florida.

Just canceled a visit because of his grandfathers birthday??? Sounds like Farms has a very slack attitude in him. From what it sounds like, I doubt Spurrier will miss Farms.

I still enjoy reading posts where astute student athletes blow off the Old Ball Coach. How is Spurrier doing at Tucker (now and in the future)?

The school that has the misfortune of signing this kid may take awhile to recover. Thank your lucky stars that he did not want to play in any of our great institutions in Georgia. WOW, what an attitude.

The kid must have figured out what a POS the Central Florida HC is. Go to UNC kid. Better coach, better education there.
