Heisman Trophy winner urges WR Cameron Kenney to pick Oklahoma over UGA
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
It’s down to UGA and Oklahoma for wide receiver Cameron Kenney, who is from the Atlanta suburbs. Kenney made an official visit to Oklahoma this weekend.
“I’ve got a lot of questions in my heart to think about,” Kenney told the AJC over the telephone from Norman, Okla., on Sunday night.
“Do I play for Oklahoma, the No. 2 team in the country which has the Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback [Sam Bradford] coming back to compete for next year’s national championship?”
“Or do I play in front of family and friends in the SEC at Georgia? That would be something special, something people from my hometown [of Dacula] would always remember. At Oklahoma, I’d be playing in front of 86,000 fans, but not really many people that I would know.”
“I keep going back and forth between Georgia and Oklahoma, and I don’t really know which school it is going to be. [However], I do feel that after I make my official visit to Georgia next week, I should know.”
Oklahoma is a late entry to the sweepstakes for Kenney, who plays at Garden City (Kan.) Junior College and initially committed to Auburn. The Sooners offered Kenney an official visit and scholarship last Wednesday.
During the recruiting trip to Oklahoma, Kenney spent a lot of time with Bradford. The Sooners have made wide receivers a top priority in recruiting. “Coach [Bob Stoops] said they some wide receivers that can come in and be impact players, and they feel like I can be that type of player for them.”
“Bradford is a great guy, down to Earth. He feels very strongly that they will compete again for the national championship next year, and said that played a major factor in him returning to Oklahoma. He said they need wide receivers, guys he has confidence in that can makes plays. [Bradford] said he hoped that we could be teammates on next year’s national champions.”
Kenney said he was scheduled to meet with UGA offensive coordinator Mike Bobo later this week in Kansas.

Make the choice that is in your heart. I’m sure that Bradford forgot to tell you that they’ve lost 5-straight BCS bowl games, and that the last two times they’ve played for a National Championship they have been beat by SEC teams. You may not win a NC at UGA, but you have got a better chance than at OU. Win a SEC Championship at UGA, and you will play for the NC.

Well not &%it…what do you suppose Bradford is going to urge Kenney to do?
I hope Kenney watched Bradford against the SEC in the bowl game…enough said. If Kenney wants to be the best he can be, he might as well play in the SEC where he’ll play with and against the top talent in the country.
Fact is, Georgia has AJ Green, a Freshman All America wide receiver, but they really need another big time receiver to line up with him. They have a bevy of highly recruited QB’s with the senior, Joe Cox, the sophomore Logan Gray, and the two highly touted incoming freshmen, Murray and Mettenberger. Richt is commited to a pro-style offense…what more could a receiver in Kenney’s position want?
And yes, he can play near family and friends if he goes to Georgia. I think the choice is clear.

You can play in front of family and friends AND have a chance to play for a title at UGA.
At Okie, you may have a chance to play for the title, but as long as Bob Stoops is there, you know you will lose.

Puppy fans are unbelievable in their arrogance…”you have a better chance of a NC at ugag than OU”….last I looked ugag’s was in 1980, that would be 38+ years ago. OU played for one this year, and have won one and played for another just in this decade. I guess the ugag group is still celebrating their preseason NC from this year.

oops…make that 28 years since their NC. If you really want to go win a NC, then you may very well need to go to a SEC school….but that would be UF or LSU, same can be said about winning a SEC title. Ugag could not get it done with Stafford and Moreno, so why do they think it is going to get better without them.

Cameron kinney has 3 years to play 2. He will step in at uga and play right away. He will not do that at oklahoma. He will be playing for titles at either place. He will be a dawg in the end. Either destination are great schools and great football programs. I hope he is happy where he goes.

Urkiddingme, from 1980 to 2008, would be twenty eight years, and this kid needs to know when he walks away from the game, that his parents had a chance to see him every week of the season playing. Come to Uga kid and see yourself in the Superbowl one day; don’t believe me, just ask Hines Ward,Leonard Pope,Demario Minter, and Arnold Harrison. Just a few Dawgs playing in the SB this year,or you could find Ben Watson, and ask him how it feels to have that bling on his fingers.Gee come to think of it, isn’t that three guys that got thrown to alot at UGA? Enough said, come home where you can get a chance to get paid on Sundays.

You Dawg fans are pathetic. A better chance to win a national title at Georgia? HA! 28 years and counting and not a true sniff of a title since 1982. We have won 2 titles since your last one and have played for numerous more. And whatever moron said that OU has lost their last 2 national championship games to SEC teams is a moron…unless you consider Southern Cal part of the SEC. Wrong USC, Cletus.
Kenney has just as good of a chance to play next year at OU than at UGA. We are losing a few quality receivers while UGA is only losing one that really matters. Norman is an awesome town and doesn’t have on campus ghettos like Athens.

OU - Beat Texas, more than likely you are in the Title Game.
UGA - get ‘butt-violated’ by UF and Tech (not to mention the typical one or two other unforseen losses each season) and go see the best that Tampa (Outback) or Orlando (Chumps) has to offer!!
Get real, kid! Besides, didn’t anyone tell you already? Reverend Richt has his messiah in Gibson! LOL
However, if pre-season HYPE is what you live for, nobody does it better than UGAG!

HEY CAMERON! I HOPE YOU PRAY AND MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE. GEORGIA NEEDS YOU RIGHT NOW AND YOU ARE A DIFFERENCE MAKER. I WOULD URGE YOU TO LOOK AT THE COACHES YOU WILL PLAY FOR. MARK RICHT IS NOT ONLY AN OUTSTANDING COACH BUT A QUALITY MAN. HE WILL IMPART “LIFE” TO YOU AND NOT JUST PREPARE YOU TO BE THE BEST FOOTBALL PLAYER YOU CAN BE … BUT THE BEST MAN YOU CAN BE. BRADFORD WILL BE GONE NEXT YEAR BUT COX, MURRAY AND GRAY WILL BE AROUND FOR YOU TO BUILD A TEAM WITH. IT MAY BE TIME TO COME HOME AND ENJOY THE THINGS THAT ARE VALUABLE … HOME, FRIENDS AND THE THRILL OF TEEING IT UP IN SANFORD STADIUM ON SATURDAY AFTERNOONS. COME ON BACK TO GEORGIA…. Mighty long trip to maybe play in maybe a Nat Champ game (lots of schools will have something to say about that). No local news coverage, no local friends or family, no trips home for family birthdays, etc.. Good QB at OU but what is behind him for next year or if he gets hurt. Big decision to make based upon one QB or possibly one game. I know you will do what is best for you and your family whatever that might be. Just think it through and best wishes whatever your choice might be.

Cameron I hope you the best where ever you go. But ask yourself these questions if you attend OU.
Will you family and friends be in attendance to see you play? NO.
Will your family and friends get to hear your name on the radio? NO.
Will your family and friends get to read about you in the local paper. NO
Will your family and friends get to see you on TV. Maybe and a big maybe.
Cameron, this is just food for thought, but I hope you make the right decision for yourself.

Don’t Oklahoma lose their whole offensive line next year. UGA didn’t have one senior on the line, lost their senior TE most of the season, and pending injuries, should be loaded on the O line at least next two seasons with a heck of a blocking TE healthy. That will make any QB better.
Bradford will not have near the season next year all though I give him his credit, he is a heck of QB when he has all day to throw, that is until he plays an SEC team(14 pts).

Often schools tell a player to come to their school and play for the NC, but you really don’t know how things will work out for the next year. Who gets hurt and things like that make a real difference. Who would have thought Alabama would be that good this year or that Georgia would be below par. I can tell your family and friends matter the most to you. You are lucky to have a chance to play with Georgia. Remeber they were number 1 until they had so many injuries. Georgia beat Florida year before last and Tebow was hurt.

I am not sure how good this guy is but I am sure that if he decides to come to GA. thats the end of recruting for Marlon Brown, which I think he is leaning towards Tenn. If he is as good as advertised someone with some experience would be better in my opinion. I live here in S Florida and the radio talk show host refer to Mohammad Massouquo as being a BEAST. they want the dolphins to draft him because he played in a pro system and is a great locker room guy. Georgia’s system is good for guys who want to play in the NFL. With the guys already at Georgia in the receiver position, adding this guy to Green would give us two excellent receivers and a more than capable third guy in Durham, Wooten the speedy guy, or Troup. If Orsen Charlse commits to Georgia, this guy has to start right away. Have any of you seen this guy? He is a beast and could play right away even line up in the slot. He has a college body already. I am happy about the O line we have coming back but we are unproven on the Dline, secondary, runningback positions with some potential play makers at each position. We will have to wait and see.

you can’t possibly compare norman oklahoma to athens Ga..show me when normal was ever voted a top college town. Athens always is. I have lived in moore oklahoma the last 4 yrs, and norman doesn’t come to close to athens. Cam should go back to Ga where his family can see him play, and ou will not win or even play for the NC title next year…you can take that to the bank. Everybody is tired of seeing them get there and fall on their faces..Talk about overrated, it’s oklahoma that fails to meet expectations…Oklahoma has nothing on Georgia, why would anyone want to live in a dusty dirt bowl, with bad roads, with nothing farms? Come back to GA cam, the beautiful southeast..

Oklahoma’s offensive line won’t be as good in 2009. All of UGA’s O-line returns, plus two injured starters. It’s going to be interesting to see who the starting five are next year. Also, we’re deep at QB. I don’t know what the situation is at OU concerning backup QB’s. Given all this, the choice is clear. However, I’d still like to have Marlon Brown. He’s an exceptional prospect. Ou doesn’t play any dangerous teams during the regular season except for Texas. Maybe that’s why they’ve lost five BCS games in a row, even losing to Boise State, who waltzed into Athens a few years ago expecting to upset UGA. If I remember correctly, Boise State was cremated.

I can’t believe you even have the nerve to part your lips to talk about a team that has made it to the NC on a fews occassions within the past 20 years. How can you be so arrogant yet so uneducated. Hey ArmyVet, No need for the anger, but they just put better players in the NFL. Ex: Champ Bailey,Marcus Stroud,Hines Ward,John Kasay,Thomas Davis. This list could go on and on but I’ve you room to blog back about OU players, I’ll give you Adrian Peterson, but after that the ship is pretty empty!

I think we take one more WR, either Kenney or Brown. Kenney is a Georgia kid and grew up dawgified. I think Kenney will commit this weekend to the Dawgs. Oklahoma is a state that lacks great athletes. Seldom are there any available Oklahoma recruits. They have to leach off of texas to dress a squad. I’ve noticed that Stoops has started recruiting southern kids more. He needs to if he wants to change that o’fer bowl game statistic!

Big Mike….where am I showing my anger? I just made a true statement. But, like I said, if he has the talent, he’ll go to the NFL regardless. However, if he wants to play for a championship team…go with OU or UF.

Go to Oklahoma. If you go to Georgia, you will be sitting most of the last regular season game on the pines while your defense plays “whose got the ball” and chasing the tail lights of Dwyer and Jones…

C.K. I can’t wait to watch you and follow your 4 yrs as a Dawg. Something tells me playing with AJ Green will give you all the balls you want as they can’t double AJ and you both. Welcome to Ga. You won’t be disappointed and every time you have a reunion party you won’t have to drive all the way to OK.

Kid is a UGA lock. It’s already over…
That being said it’s pretty funny listening to UGA compare their football team/tradition with OU. I’m a Buffalo fan so i dont even have a dog in the fight, but you guys/gals sound like you dont follow football. Coming up on 30 years since the last MNC, right? I believe OU has won 3 and was within one win/BCS title 5 or 6 more during that time span…and that’s with doing absolutely nothing in the 90’s.
UGA is a great program, but just doesnt stack up to a top 3 program of all time…
BTW…I’d be willing to bet OU is quite a bit better than UGA over the two years CK is there…
