UGA target Cameron Kenney offered by Oklahoma
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
There is good and bad recruiting news for UGA with wide receiver Cameron Kenney.
The good news? It appears that Georgia has moved ahead of Auburn, which is where Kenney originally committed. The bad news? Kenney got a surprise call from Oklahoma late Wednesday, with the Sooners offering both an official visit and scholarship. Kenney is a Dacula native who plays at Garden City (Kan.) Junior College.
“It’s Oklahoma … What else can you say? They just played for the national championship and they said they needed me,” Kenney said. “I’m trying to keep a [low profile] about this. But it’s exciting.”
Kenney was scheduled to visit South Carolina this weekend, but said he contacted Gamecocks assistant Steve Spurrier Jr. to cancel the trip. Instead, he is making travel plans for Oklahoma, with finals details to be worked out by Thursday.
It’s Oklahoma for Kenney, and then next weekend he is returning home to tour UGA.
What about the two other schools he talked about visiting, Auburn and Kansas State? “They are in the picture, but I’m not sure about …. well, I think after the Georgia visit, I will know where I want to be.”
Kenney said he was glad to see the 2008 Heisman Trophy winner, Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, bypass the NFL draft and return next year. But Kenney said it will not factor into his final decision. “I’m going with the place that feels like the best fit for me.”

Cameron, Georgia needs you. We need to get back to quality tight end play and you look like the man. We’d love to have you in Athens wearing Red and Black. Bob Stoopes isn’t in Mark Richt’s class. Athens is calling and we hope you hear the call. You’ll be loved, appreciated and adored in Athens. Make the wise choice … close to home … quality program …. team on the rise. When Georgia offers … Georgia wants you and recognizes your talent. Tour OAK but sign with Georgia. It’s the best choice.

jimmyingainesville….I have no idea where this kid is going and maybe he will end up in Athens. If so, good for him. But….”Bob Stoops is in Mark Richt’s class”???????????????? Surely you are kidding or still drunk. Bob Stoops has been in the BCS National Title game 2-3 times and won it. Richt has not. As for being loved, appreciated and adored, yes, while he is there he will be. But lord forbid he left early for the NFL. Look at some of the comments about Asher Allen and Rashad Jones and how they are either selfish traitors or really not that good anyway! Right now Oklahoma is a much better program than UGA. Sorry but the truth hurts!

Jimmy my boy…..I doubt that Cameron Kenney will ever lock down the TE position at UGA. Perhaps Wide Receiver, but not TE. Remember too, I doubt that UGA gets both Kenney, and MArlon Brown. That might be a bit too crowded….Kenney,Greene,King,Brown. PLus with an unproven QB, there may not be enough action for all of them.

OU vs UGA both programs are great and Stoop has made the BCS game three time and of those faced SEC twice which he lost. If they played in the SEC chances are they would not have gone. Any of the Richt’s Sugar Bowl team could play with OU. IMO Stoops and Richt are two of the classiest and most stable coaches in CFB today. Go with your instinct and think about which school most of your family and friends will be able to see you.
Also as for players going pro if they can be guaranteed more than their insurance policy they most likely should go. It is basic economics. If you get a 7 digit signing bonus you should be able to pay for a year or two of college.

what makes okl a better program? i think richt has UGA as one of the top programs in the country.if not for the weak big 12 schedule over that five years, stoops would not have even been close to the NC. they only have really 2 schools in that conf that are consistanly winning. and that is Texas and OKL…nothing like the SEC which Coach Richt has to deal with at least 5 or so that are pretty darn good football teams each and every year. asher and reshad will be in the pros one day so for bloggers to say they are not good is just foolish and as for being selfish you dont know their situation so not really right to judge them. they have their reasons to leave early, but i know their not leaving because they hate UGA. UGA will have the back up to step up and take their place. one reason we get good recruits here is because of most of our players are going pro and making a darn good living playing a sport they love. if anything else it is a good recruiting tool. we should pas mia this year for the most players on pro teams which is saying a alot in its self what kind of program mark richt is running. i really like what the future has for UGA and Mark Richt. he is a top notch coach and a even a better person. i can see UGA winning a NC soon all the pieces are coming together on the offensive line which is very key to winning tough fooball games. and on the D-line as well those young pups will be stronger, faster and better next year. UGA gets that pass rush back that will make it easier for our talented secondary to do its job.

You still might be hungover from last week’s win. Kenney is a WR, and a heck of punter too. I’d love to see him make an immediate impact in Norman next season !

atl-xmen….I dont disagree that Richt is a good coach and good person. I was mainly replying to the fact that this person said Stoops was not even in his class. Well, results would tell me differently. As for UGA winning a NC in the future, who knows. As an Alabama fan, I like our chances as well, especially if you look at the improvement we made this year. However, we have been hearing the NC anytime now talk from UGA for years. Since Richt has been there, they have recruited very well and have great talent. Yet, they have not been able to take that step up to elite by winning a title. With the loss of 4 key guys, all of which we were all-sec this past year, 2 of which were all americans, I see UGA takeing a step back this year just as I do Alabama with the loss of a Sr. QB and an All-American OL and Safety. Does that mean they will lose 5 games like LSU did this year? No. But 10 wins will be tough to come by for both teams. Also, if UGA wants to become a NC team, they need to play better defense and get rid of Martinez. Guy is not a good DC and last year proved it. I know you lost a few guys but as you said, you have backups that can step up and play and they just didnt do it. It could end up being a tough year for UGA as far as expectation go against the results.

UGA is a great school and a great program, one thing i have learned this year is the SEC has great football teams, but as far as the class of some of the fans, i am not too sure about, Stoops not in the same class as Richt??? I question that simply cause of the number of arrests UGA had this year. Not to mention Stoops has won a national championship, how about Richt?

We don’t beg, they beg to come to athens and play for the top program. Oklahoma has no academics and are a bunch of cheap shot trouble makers and even the gayturds gave em a whippin. If you don’t come to UGA, we’ll rescind your scholarship and you’ll never play for a nc.

IF THEY BEG TO COME TO ATHENS WE WOULD BE GETTING THE SAME TALENT FLORIDA GETS OR AT LEAST UTILIZING THE TALENT. OKLAHOMA SHOULD NOT HAVE EVEN GONE TO EITHER CHAMPIONSHIP. THEY LOST THE BIG12 CHAMP LAST TIME TO KANSAS STATE AND WENT AND EVERYONE KNOWS THIS YEAR, TEXAS. THAT LSU TEAM THAT BEAT OKL LOST TO UGA 45-17 THAT YEAR. THERE IS NO CONFERENCE BETTER THAN THE SEC!

UGAFANATIC, The SEC the best conference, your second best team lost to UTAH? The big 12 should be ranked at the lowest, i will admit that.

OKLAHOMA HAS BEEN TO TWO IN THE LAST 5 YEARS. WE HAVENT BEEN TO ONE SINCE MOSES PARTED THE RED SEA. OUR COACHES DONT KNOW HOW TO UTILIZE THE TALENT, THEY ARE TO SOFT. THEY HAVE NO FIRE. WHEN BRIAN VAN GORDER WAS THERE OUR DEF WAS IN THE TOP 10 EVERY YEAR. NOW WE HAVE TO HOPE WE SCORE 50 TO WIN A GAME.

We have lost 3 NC’s since 2000, that year we won the NC over FL State. Yes we have lost alot of NC’s, but we have also won alot more than most teams. Since FL is going to be better than they were this year, I am going for the Dawgs. Start off with a win against OK State for me, unlike the SEC the BIG 12’s fans aren’t all about conference loyalty.

LETS SEE SOONER, TEXAS TECH LOST TO OLE MISS. U LOST TO FLORIDA. OKLAHOMA STATE LOST TO OREGON AND TEXAS BARELY BEAT A CRAP OHIO STATE PROGRAM. IF ANY OF YOUR TOP TEAMS WHERE IN THE SEC, THERE WOULD NOT BE ANY UNDEFEATED TEAMS. THE DEFENSES ARE TOO GOOD. REGARDLESS IF I WAS NOT A FAN OF EITHER TEAM AND HAD TO CHOOSE WHERE TO PLAY I WOULD GO TO OKLAHOMA. IF I WANTED A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SHOT.

UGAFANATIC, I said the BIG 12 should be ranked the lowest this year, why did you go into detail about the SEC vs. the BIG 12?
I think you should put Bama in the same category as all BIG 12 South teams except TX. All those teams didn’t show up in bowl games!!!!

Go Sooners…I was in agreement with you there for a minute. However, before you take a shot at BAMA for losing to Utah, please keep in mind you guys lost the fiesta bowl to Boise State a couple of years ago and you lost on 2 trick plays!! I think OU is one hell of a program but dont get too far ahead of yourself here.

SECISFOOTBALL, Bad choice of words on BAMA, have alot of respect for them, i just don’t like how SEC fans group all teams into 1, that mentality doesn’t work anywhere else except for SEC fans.
My point was take great pride in your wins, but when one of your best loses, i don’t see how that makes your conference the best?
OU’s 5 straight bowl losses is very hard to deal with for true OU fans, but you know the saying, when you fall, all you can do is get right back up again, that makes me very proud of my Sooners, they at least try year after year.

Vols just got Alabamas top recruiter (national top recruiter in ‘08). The only tarnish on his record is working for Satan Sabin and the Tide-a school which cheats, crys bloody murder when caught cheating, and blames person who turned them in for cheating, lol.

*SecIsFootball * To say that Oklahoma is a a better program because they played in Nat’l Championship games is just stupid. In today’s system, making it to the big game involves several factors. Look at last year for instance, West Va was a shoe in for the title game and they suffer a huge upset loss to Pitt. To say that Okla is clearly better because of that is wrong. Also consider the conference play. When you try to judge a program by which ones make it to the title game you are not comparing apples to apples. If five teams end their season with one loss, only two teams can make it in, does that mean that the other teams are less of a program because they were the odd man out? Get outta here.

Cameron, you made a smart decision in bagging the COOTS and Spurrier. Whether you go to OU or UGA, you are assured that your head coach and the assistants will be there for your 4 year tenure. You knows where Spurrier will be after next season? Of course id the head coach leaves, the assistants are soon to follow.
