Tift County DE Shayon Green says yes to Miami, no to Georgia Tech

Tift County defensive end Shayon Green, who committed to Purdue last summer, became a late-season recruiting target for Georgia Tech and Miami in December.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Green, who remains committed to the Boilermakers, will take a visit to Miami on Jan. 23 after being offered by the Hurricanes.

But he declined an invitation from Georgia Tech to take an official visit and discuss the possibility of an offer from the Jackets.

“Not that Georgia Tech offered, but they did want to talk about recruiting him further and set up an official visit,” Tift County coach Jay Wells said. “I think [Tech] was very up front. They told him they didn’t want to waste his time or their time.

“Shayon told him he wasn’t interested. He told them he was interested in Purdue.”

Wells said Green has decided to see the Miami program in person prior to national signing day on Feb. 4.

“He seems to be very firm in his commitment to Purdue,” Wells said. “But Miami offered him, and I think he must have a little bit of interest because he plans to take an official visit there.”

this is what Tech folks have been projecting… the state of college football within GA will be turning. Grabbing more “top recruits” within GA… you know, beating out UGA for these recruits. Wait a minute, this kid turns down Tech for central Indiana? Well, at least, he will visit sunny Miami. These GA high school recruits are just so excited about the prospect of playing for Coach Johnson… they are lining up. This high school offense may of beat UGA but it will NOT put any recruits with NFL aspirations in the draft.

Oh yes, you don’t understand:

GT already has 3 DE verbal committments in the upcoming class….and they’re all from the state of GA. Typical ignorant Ugagger.

News flash!!!!! Roddy Jones was just ticketed by the Clark Co. police for speeding down the sidelines for another TD.

“Oh Yes I understand” … you do understand 45-42 dont you? You do understand 12 arrests in 2008 dont you? LOL.. Florida is loaded for 2009, early 2009 polls have Tech at 11th … Georgia cant even keep guys in long enough to graduate.. whether they are stars or not… what a mess in Athens. Both Florida and Tech will hang 50 on Georgia next year

Guys, don’t let “Oh Yes I understand” or any of the other names he uses fool you.

He is still that same pitiful person that was rejected by GA Tech baseball and GA Tech admissions. Don’t know if he is still at Emory U., but he obviously lives a very bitter life since he comes on here every day and posts multiple times.

He isn’t a ugay person, just an anti-Tech person. I am not sure that even a ugay person would be this twisted.

Truth be told CPJ didn’t really want Shayon Green at GT anyway.

I like all of the back and forth banter, but let’s not get carried away talking about preseason polls. We all know how reliable those are.

“Oh yes, I understand” seems to have a hard time understanding a very fundamental difference between Georgia Tech and Georgia: Georgia’s athletes, as a whole, would be significant academic liabilities at Tech. The two schools do not recruit from the same pool of athletes.

I hope the young man makes the right choice for his future. Both places (Miami and Purdue) to seem to be ideal for the kid.

tech STILL can’t crack the Top 20????

Any wins were nationally viewed as a FLUKE…

The Dude - is that the same pool of athletes that included Reggie Ball, Joe Hamilton, and all those players ruled academically inelgible from 1999-2001? That pool of athletes?

Did the Tech players get their “victory rings” yet for beating UGA? Are those suppose to be state championship rings? Perhaps they were still thinking about those rings when the played LSU. What a disaster!

As I have stated many times before. UGA is a better football program than GT in every way imaginable. They are stoked about a 9-4 season. They have not won 10 games since around 1998. Yes this includes Tech 45-42 win, that does not change the fact that UGA is a MUCH better football program. Blind men see it.

Why all the crying mutts, tech has not even offered this sa a scholarship. Flap those gums about how much better a Program ugay is, is not relevant to this discussion. How many national championships has ugay won in the last decade (0) the same amount tech has won. Which storied program has won more national championships (tech) argue that bitc&s. 45-43 is all i have to say this year, keep living the dream ugay that is all you can do anyways is dream. ugay motto “wait until next year” and we will keep waiting. thank you have nice day Bit*h’s

Jeff, how can you even come up with this crap that he said “no” to Tech when Tech never even offered the kid. Are you serious?
