Will Northside DB K.J. Morton be one of UGA surprises on signing day?

Every year in recruiting, there are surprises on signing day.

Could Georgia’s surprise for this year be Northside-Warner Robins cornerback K.J. Morton? Morton may be one of the state’s best-kept secrets, as he is not mentioned in any of the mainstream recruiting circles.

But UGA is aware of Morton after spending so much time with his Northside teammate, Abry Jones, who has committed to Georgia.

Morton told the AJC that he could get scholarship offers from Georgia and Kentucky if he improves his test scores.

“I’ve been in touch with [UGA assistant John Lilly], and he told me I’m a real good ballplayer,” the 5-foot-10, 165-pound speedster said. “He is just waiting on my ACT scores.”

With Kentucky, Morton had the opportunity to meet the coaching staff and watch the team’s bowl practice during his official visit in December.

“[Kentucky assistant Randy Sanders] asked if I wanted to go to school there, and I told him I did,” he said. “They are also waiting on my ACT results.”

Morton said if Kentucky offers he will commit. “They have been with me throughout the whole thing. I like the coaches and had a good time with the players.”

UGA fighting Kentucky for a recruit. Pretty funny, to bad it’s not Basketball.

can’t help but notice…from this and the last many, many articles on recruiting from this website…not one of any of these recruits have any interest in Tech, nor mention of, for that matter…speaks volumes.

Wait, there was that one article where one of Tech’s top targets said…and I quote…”I want to play ball in the SEC”…hahaha…that’s so rich.

Enjoy your rings, boys.

RAMBLE ON…you sir are a total jagoff if you remotely think Tech can sniff UGA’s jock in regards to recruiting. You clowns when 1 game in 8 years (of which you had 42 points dropped on you) and think you own UGA and the state of Georgia in recruiting. I already can’t wait for the beatdown the Nerds will get next year at the North Avenue Trade School municipal stadium. Payback is hell!!!

RAMBLE ON!!! You my friend are an embarassment to yourself and your school. You are smart enough to know that if UGA wanted this kid they would already have him. The only reason he is talking to Kentucky is because UGA never came calling. You should know that UGA is just keeping him on the line in case he does qualify, the don’t land Greg Reid, and have a slot open to fill. Come on bro.

KJ Morton is a fine football player. Im surprised that not more schools are looking at this solid shutdown corner. First team allstate last year and second team this year. Oh yeah….two time state champion!

Um, nothing wrong with Tech’s recruiting class this year. Besides, they don’t need the five star guys to run that offense.

The reason UGA has not offered Morton is obviously his ACT score.

Seems like he would fit in with the other 75% of the “special admissions” at UGA. Which may also be the reason Tech is not interested in any of the other UGA targets.

Just like it has been said here by Ramble On and others have said - your 5 star recruits were beaten by Tech’s 3 and 4 star recruits.

Those 5 star recruits were ranked 13th at the end of the year and finished 10-3. What about Tech. Finished behind Georgia again. Tech usually is competing with Troy and Miss. State for their recruits. Check for yourself.

Skydawg really not interested in sniffing UGA’s jocks. Seems to be a practice you know a lot about. But then thats just what dawgs do…isn’t it? Probably like most dawgs, the dirtier they are the more you like em. Its so nice to own a dog named UGA that now knows how to roll over and play dead on command.

K.J Morton was a great corner for Northside the past couple seasons, he came up with some big int’s and returns, glad he’s finally getting some ink….But i’ll bet if you polled the coaches or OC’s from Perry ,B.T Washington (Fla) ,Westside-Macon,Tift,Coffee,Colquitt and Valdosta.Id bet they’ll tell you that the best cover corner for Northside’s 2008 squad was the Brian Jones kid #14..Morton got beat deep a few times this season, the worst was the deep ball for a TD against Camden. The Jones kid only gave up one to Perry’s Trey Smith on a play action…..As a matter of fact most balls were thrown to Morton’s side because Jones had his side locked down most of the time…..I didn’t know much about Brian Jones at the start of the season,I think he came up through Northside system, but in my opinion he turned out to be one of the best corner’s in the Region….If any school signs this kid they’ll get a true cover corner , and talk about a diamond in the rough.

45-42 and as they say…Dawgonit! For some reason or another 45-42 just sounds better than the number 13.

At the end of the year, we still beat Tech (see final ranking). Also, I think 38-3 sounds pretty good too, as does 7-1.

Funny thing is, the tools think they have a combo of Bear Bryant and Bobby Dodd in Paul lil Johnson. Took Richt 8 years to lose his first game against an inferior ACC opponent. Johnson went limp against a five loss SEC opponent in his own backyard during his first season. Richt won the SEC in his second season. While Johnson will never win, nor play for, the ACC. He will be fired within the next 4 seasons. Too funny for words

KJ is a great player and he fully understands how to play his position. He deserves a shot at big time college ball. Yes KJ got beat a couple of times but you take that because of his proven big play return. He had a great play against Greg Reid. Reid had about 4 blockers in froint of him on his way to a score, but KJ beat the blocks and made the tackle. At Camden County he was beat for a touchdown on a beautiful catch by Camden’s receiver. KJ is the real deal.

I think RAMBLE ON and his techie buddies need to get back to their D&D or world of warcraft game and leave the grown up football talk to the grown folks. Don`t worry guys, your idiotic ramblings and meaningless rings will be forgotten next year. Joe Cox and Co. are getting ready to put a world of hurt on you guys.

I was just informed that K.J. passed his ACT. K.J. has done everything he can do. But for some strange reason……colleges are not offering him a scholarship. Who wouldnt want a 3 year starter from a power house highschool team. A 2 time all state selection and a two time state champion. That seems real suspect.
