Georgia Tech target Joel Kight “wants to play in SEC”

M.L. King linebacker Joel Kight might make a decision soon on where he’ll play college football, his high school coach suggested this week.

“I think it may come down to that visit to Ole Miss,” said Corey Jarvis, referring to Kight’s official visit to Oxford on Jan. 16. “He really likes Ole Miss. He really wants to play in the SEC.”

Kight has made visits to Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State and Boston College, and said he was impressed by all the schools.

After being told in late December that he risks having his scholarship offer withdrawn unless he makes a quick decision to commit to Georgia Tech, the Jackets now appear content to give Kight additional time to decide on a college.

The All-State linebacker (5-10, 210) led MLK in tackles with 114 in 11 games. He also has offers from Connecticut, Duke, Miami-Ohio, Indiana and Arizona State.

Joel “flying high like a” Kight come to Tech and be a true student athlete! Let Josh “the Robot” Nesbitt teach you. You’ll go far.

But good luck where ever you go.

Billy Jack,

1) The “blue turf” bowl is no longer an ACC bowl

2) GT will be playing in the Orange next year, so it won’t matter who the Peach selects.

3) I hope you enjoy the beat-down of uga in the ATL in 2009.

THATS PLAY DEFENSE!!! SINCE THE SEC IS SO GREAT, TECH FINISHED 3RD IN ACC, AND YET THE DAWGS COULDN’T BEAT THE 3RD BEST TEAM IN THE ACC. YOU GUYS KEEP RUNNING YOUR DSUCKERS!!! YOU CAN’T SAY SAY S EXCEPT 45-42!!! get ready to play a quarterback who has more splinters in his a* than minutes on the field! JOE COX??? YOU GUYS WILL SUCK NEXT YEAR. WE GOT 19 STARTERS BACK AND WILL THUMP THAT A* IN ATLANTA. I CAN’T WAIT TILL YOU LOSERS COME GET SOME MORE OF WHAT YOU GOT IN THE SECOND HALF IN ATHENS!!! DON’T SING IT, BRING IT!

After the fluke Georgia win, Tech fans made bold claims about dominating in recruiting and wooing more in-state recruits. Again I ask the Techies, where is the evidence of this? This guy wants to ditch you for the SEC, just like always. Same ole same ole. Nothing has changed.

Hey Tech Losers(I know it’s redundant) , Take a unbiased look at the players we (UGA) recruit and what you LOSERS recruit. Our players are wanted by national powers and your recruits are wanted by other ACC schools.Live it up this year and up to the day we play(BEAT) you next year. It will all be back to normal in this state after that day—-BANK ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have we not learned anything from past history? It is not how many stars you have behind your name as a high school recruit. It is about how you are coached once you get to that university. I am a life long UGA fan. But I must tip my cap to coach Johnson on how he coaches and motivates his lesser known players. To me it is a life lesson that transends football. As much as I hate to say this, I must give credit where credit is due.

Bob, your clearly an idiot! Us jacket fans claiming that are just as stupid as you! Hell, thats almost as logical as you rednecks thinking youll win a NC before your children bury you!! Look at yourselves every now and then. Tech student athletes have to go to class. Can you explain why you recruit as well as anyone in the SEC and yet when your team plays anyone with the same talent you get your a** whipped? According to the #s, you have the second dumbest team in the SEC and with the rep that the SEC carries, that would mean you have the second dumbest team in the country. Do you UGAy fans not take pride in anything? As for sugarhill dawg, which one of those trailers do you live in? I live on the other side of 985 and they dont allow trailers over here! Any way, i’ve got an old couch i need to get rid of, can I throw it in your yard?

Congratulations to Tech players for going to class. I’m sure they are the only college football program in all of the nation with such a stringent requirement. And of course there isn’t an academic support team the size of a small country to hold their hand and make sure they do it. No, of course not. This is Georgia Tech we’re talking about. Kudos to these brave young men for braving the elements of a classroom AND the football field. This is of course an unparalleled accomplishment. Georgia Tech football stands for everything that is righteous, holy, and pure.

By the way ??????, while I’ve got your attention, what is Joe Hamilton up to these days? What marvelous things is he doing for society with his prestigous Georgia Tech degree? We need an update on ole Joe. Maybe he can go to a 4th tier law school with Reggie Ball and they can start a law firm together: Dumb & Dumber, LLP.

Tech fans are so full of crap that its coming out of their ears.

By ?????

January 8, 2009 5:52 PM | Link to this

Your right. As troublesome as the Hamilton situation is maybe something good can come out of it. Maybe he and the twelve players that got arrested from UGAy this year can start a firm and take on the Cochran firm? One thing though, Hamilton graduated………… And as for the outstanding UGAy student athletes, im not sure that a 960 on the SAT would sit too well with the admission crew. Lets say the 960 worked, how would they apply the turf management knowledge that they gained at UGAy towards the law degree. Anyway, the man got a DUI, so what? Is that as bad as beating up your girlfriend in public, or vandalizing a hospital, hell, i’ll take a DUI over being caught spooning a “friend” in alabama any day!!

ok facts are facts GT has the highest average SAT and 3rd best GPA of all division one football programs. We are bounded by our academic requirments. We will never be able to recruit like UGA because they can just look at how good someone is. We have too look at grades and then potential after. This may work out for us though because with a great coach like PJ the players will develop into great ones. I have classes with athletes and seriously none of them are push overs. In my law ethics class they have some of the smartest things to say out of all the class. Im damn proud of anyone who puts on a georgia tech jersey. The Joe Hamilton fiasco put a damper on our ability to recruit anyone. We have to make sure they can pass class on thier own here. This kid doesnt want to come here, take his scholarship away and give it to a kid with heart that can redshirt and work hard to be a great player.

Ok dawgfans! Can a single one of you name a program with the talent that yours has, that has underachieved at a greater rate over the last 20 years than your UGA bulldogs? Name one program that has the run ins with the law like yours does! Name another set fans that trashes their campus, stadium and downtown, win or lose? Can you name a single team in the ACC that has the trash fan base comparable to any team in the SEC? You guys have really got to look in the mirror….

Of course he does. Next to the pathetic Big 10, the ACC is the most embarrassing BCS conference. How funny it is that dumbarse Yech fans think that CPJ is the second coming of Christ and every kid out of hs would want to play for him.

Hey big pup, your Jackets TRY and recruit all these same kids that “can’t read.” Remember the kid that changed his mind and went to Troy instead? Yeah, all you moronic Yech fans were saying its because of grades. Funny Yech would even bother recruiting a kid that would be borderline, let alone not able to make the minimum.

hey buzzed02,

  • The SMURF BOWL was never an ACC Bowl, it was always a Tech bowl. No worries, they already have your invitation ready for next year. Assuming you do well enough to even qualify for that.

  • Tech will NEVER play in a bowl game in January during your lifetime. I repeat, NEVER. Let alone a BCS game. Get off the crack.

  • You’re still down 22 games all-time head-to-head. After next year it’ll be back to 23.

Why wouldn’t he want to play in the SEC? In a supposed “down year” for the SEC they go 6-2 in bowls and win another National Championship. The ACC can’t even sniff the NC game, and never will.

It took the ACC’s recruiting of FSU just to have any sort of title in this era since all the original members are God awful and couldn’t get it done. Look now how its the newest members already owning the conference after only being in it for a season. Absolutely pathetic and embarrassing.

    JecketSteve…You IDIOT!!!!!

Since according to your logic…head to head competition the BEST team ALWAYS wins, I assume there will be a true national championship awarded in the next few days???

via your logic and reasoning Ole Miss will be rightly crowned…Right? After all they are obviously a better team than UF? Also I guess the final polls will have to be revised….Oregon State HAS to be ranked ahead of USC(the real one)?

And for certain LSU has to be ranked WAY ahead of GT? Right?

For your information the BEST team does NOT always win!!!

Did GT beat UGA this year? YES Does it hurt? YES Now i know how GT fans have felt for the past 7 years….and 14 out of the past 18 years!!! However UGA has a better football team than GT….even in a DOWN year…for us!!

Just a few FACTS without taking time to do a little research(there are MANY more).

LSU is 18-0 in their last 18 games vs the lowly ACC!!!!

SEC has the alltime best winning bowl percentage!!!

ACC is what? 2-9(not sure but close) in BCS bowls!!

UGA has a +22 lead vs GT in all time series record!!! After all…according to you head to head is all that matters!!! Right?

ACC bowl record this year was 2-8…inspite of the fact that 9 of your bowls were pre-New Year…thus obviously against weaker competition!!!

Could go on and on but no need!!!

Briefly, GT once had a very good football program and was a well respected member of the best conferenc in college football…the SEC. The powers to be at GT decided that they were and would be the “Notre Dame” of the South…NOT!!!

The “Glory years” of GT football ended when Booby Dudd died and GT left the SEC!!! You will NEVER again have a place of prominance in the world of college football!!! PERIOD!!!

If you and the rest of the nerd herd wish to revisit the “Glory Days” of GT football…I suggest you visit Booby Dudd’s grave site….and sing that silly song about how you WRECKED on the way to a ramble…or something like that!!!!!

As far as HS recruiting “does not mean crap”… Look at the last 5 yrs of recruiting rankings, each yr the same teams in the top 5… USC, FL, LSU, TEXAS, etc… I would say that their recruiting translated to many wins. You do not know what you are talking about. You may be a little upset that B’wood is now fighting CGHS for the middle of the pack in HS football. Nice season last year, loser! As I’ve read sooo many blogs this season the scary part for GA fans is that they know what Paul Johnson is building at Tech. The overwhelming majority can’t bring themselves to admit this obvious truth, but it became more and more evident as the year wore on. These fans were salivating, looking for anything that would signal Tech’s success & accomplishments had ended - i.e. Gardner Webb, UNC, and just recently LSU. It didn’t happen; isn’t going to happen under Paul Johson.

After the Gardner Webb game (game 6 of 12) the Jackets’ schedule appeared too daunting a task. But they traveled to Clemson and won, then stumbled to VA at home only to follow that L up with a win over FSU! Yeah, I’m sure GA fans want to think the W was lucky b/c of the fumble at the end, but maybe that fumble was KARMA for the ref’s blown holding call in the endzone on FSU’s prior series. That’s a safety, and FSU kicking the ball back to the Jackets = comfortable win.

Poor play, and costly turnovers doomed the Yellow Jackets vs. UNC. Then came 472 yards rushing, and a thumping of Miami. Next up, the bulldogs of Athens, GA.

GA came into that game with 2 weeks of preperation, an NFL QB & RB, one soon-to-be NFL WR, and another (even better WR) ready to roll. And roll they did; to a 28-12 halftime lead. Apparently GA coaches & fans had been lulled into thinking the game was over from its recent experiences with Tech’s previous coaching regime.

POW! Thump, thump, zing! The 3rd quarter is over, and the Jackets are leading 38-28. Welcome to the next phase of Yellow Jacket football, men from Athens. Paul Johnson’s teams will be a thorn in GA’s side as long as he’s roaming the sidelines. Another truth that simply scares the dickens out of GA fans.

Tech’s season ended on disappointing note with a disgraceful performance in the Peach Bowl (aka C-F-a bowl). Yeah, this game will have about as much an influence on Tech’s 2009 season as GA’s “huge” win over Hawaii did in last year’s Sugar Bowl. I believe I read & heard numerous times how that win would propell the dogs to the NC this season. Also, how’d Tech’s embarrassing loss to Fresno State in Boise last season affect the team’s success THIS season?? Yeah, thought so.

And, if only Oklahoma hadn’t gotten their butts kicked by West Va. in last season’s Fiesta Bowl I guess they would’ve actually won the other night.

A team that lives/dwells in the past will never be successful. Va Tech, Gardner Webb, VA., and UNC … looks like PJ is doing just fine in not letting this happen.

Scary … Tech’s got tons of YOUNG talent, and they are only adding more, with or without the Knight kid. YE-UP, the future is bright for the Jackets. Boo!!

I think Joel has every right to take his time to think things through before making a commitment…That’s the mature and responsible thing to do if you’re not really sure where you want to go. By NOT making a commitment up front and backing out later, he is giving GA Tech the opportunity to continue recruiting other players.

On the other hand, GA Tech, GA Tech would be foolish NOT to be looking at other players to fill their open slots before THEY accept other offers.

There’s no bad guy in this scenario…

And just for the record, people, how about we just stick to recruiting, okay? This petty, childish, bantering is really getting old. If you want to act like children, take it to another forum. If you want to talk about sports, this is the right place to be.

What is funny is that half of these Tech fans have to point to glory before they were even born. Eight wins in a row in the late 40’s? My parents were just born. How about two UGA seven game winning streaks since the 90’s, while I was alive. This rivalry almost means nothing, just with a couple of nerds coming onto blogs scratching for statistics so that their program seems relevant. Enjoy your one year, LSU exposed you, and it is all down hill from here.

Bingo Larry!! This is why Yech fans are the liberals of college football. Angry and full of nothing but pi$$ and vinegar. Just like how all these idiotic college youths, who are still living off mommy and daddy, claim they long for Camelot again. Same with Yech fans who long for the early 1900’s when they were actually relevant. Its a sad state of affairs down on the flats and their most recent savior was greatly exposed against a 5 loss SEC team in their own backyard.

Sugardawg and all other idiot dawg fans,

The stars on your recruits do not measure intelligence and that is the problem with UGA football. For the most part, your players are dumb and undisciplined. Yes they can run 4.4 and bench press 225 20 times, but if you can’t play disciplined football you can not win against elite programs like Alabama, Florida, and GT.

45-42 will be the closest game in a while. Without Stafford and Moreno, UGA is going to SUCK. Get used to it dawg fans. This was your year. It will be a long time before you guys even get a sniff at winning the SEC East. Florida is on an unstoppable roll for years to come and Kiffin and Co will get UT in the #2 SEC East position. Sorry UGA, maybe you can try to join the MAC and win a conference title.

Keep trying to convince yourself that Yech will ever be relevant. The ACC is dominated by all the NEW programs that the conference was forced to recruit since the original members all suck a$$ and can’t compete with the big boys on a yearly basis.

You guys play in the weakest BCS conference out there and you’ll never even play for the conference title again. No wonder Tech bolted for the ACC. They couldn’t handle the real football in the SEC. SHAZAAAAAAM!! The Gomer Pyle of engineers has passed gas. I for one am so glad you have that comfort to fall back on. Maybe one day somebody outside of the Atlanta perimeter will know who GT is. Until then keep feeling good about all that ancient history while remaining the pimple on the butt of your in-state rivals. I’m sure UGA is more than content with their 6 top ten finishes in Mark Richt’s 8 years in Athens. If you’re really lucky maybe he’ll keep throwing you that once a decade bone that you techies are willing to pimp your boyfriends for. By the way, how big is the waiting list for your replica of that 9 win losers ring now. You better jump on one of those. It’s a once in a lifetime deal for you trade schoolers.

An evaluator of football talent you’re obviously not. With the kind of “talent” that Tech has in its secondary you need all the DB help you can get.
