UGA meets with All-America DB Greg Reid for three hours

Greg Reid, the AJC’s all-classification Player of the Year, said he met for three hours with UGA offensive coordinator Mike Bobo on Thursday in Valdosta.

And Reid told the AJC he liked what he heard.

“[Bobo] was a cool guy, and a lot of it was just the normal recruiting talk,” Reid said. “He looked me in the eyes a lot, more than other college coaches do. I think he just really want to let me know that Georgia was very serious about me. I mean, he said they really wanted me badly there.”

Did Bobo’s visit help Georgia’s chances with Reid? “I like everybody just about even. You know, Georgia hasn’t won a national championship since 1980. I know a lot of people around the state would love another national championship for Georgia. And if I went there, I would look forward to bringing one back for all the Georgia fans.”

Reid said Bobo talked a little bit about offense, but said he was being recruited by the Bulldogs primarily at defensive back. “That’s fine with me. I’ll play wherever anybody wants me to play in college. If it gets me on the field where I can help my team, then that’s where I want to play.”

It has been a whirlwind week for the prized prospect from Lowndes. It all started when he backed off his longtime commitment to Florida. Then he won MVP honors at the Under Armour All-America game, which ignited an all-out invasion of Valdosta by college recruiters.

Reid met with Alabama yesterday, and has agreed to take an official visit with the Crimson Tide this weekend. The rest of this month’s travel schedule looks like this: Florida on Jan. 16, Mississippi State on Jan. 23, and Georgia on Jan. 30.

Somewhere in there, Reid might take a recruiting trip to Florida State, which is dispatching its coaches to meet with Reid on Friday before he leaves for Alabama. And then there’s Auburn, which is yet another school trying to get into the sweepstakes.

Talk from all the other kids at the all star game last week was that Reid didn’t “decommit” to UF until he saw all the hype and attention that the uncommitted recruits were getting while he was getting ZERO attention. Guys I know said it was blantantly un-genuine. Don’t be surprised if he’s just milking this for attention and to see him stay at UF…as much as I’d like to see him be a Dawg.

Mr. Reid, I am one who agrees with Coach Richt that we only want those whose heart is with us. I sincerely want you to go where your heart tells you to go. I hope that place is UGA, but I wish you the best wherever you decide to go. You seem to love football, and it will be exciting to watch you wherever you play.

Why wouldn’t he want to come to Athens and play…I mean it’s only a 5 hour trip for his family not just a little hop on I-75 trip for them….and here’s the kicker, why would a player obviously of his caliber and desire for the limelight want to go to Florida and be contantly talked about on ESPN? Dear Greg,

Life is short and your decision will greatly affect your whole life. Coach Mark Richt is a man of integrity, honesty and principle. He is a real Christian. The University of Georgia football team is family. Coach Mark Richt will put you above winning and will add more to your life than football. You’ll have fun … you’ll have a blast in Athens town but you’ll be prepared for life and not just football. I hope you will weigh the spiritual side of UGA as you make your decision. We would love to have you at GA … but we really want you to do what’s best for you. You could be a major key to Georgia’s future for the next few yeas. You and Branden would make Saturday afternoons at Sanford Stadium something to behold. My vote for you is the Dawgs … I hope it will be your vote too. God Bless You Greg Reid.

Greg, Listen to what every school has to say, but make your decision based on that gut feeling you’ll have. You have the whole world in your hands right now, but you can lose everything in an instant. I’m 46 yrs old and my gut has never steered me wrong. Every mistake I have ever made was when I either did what someone else wanted me to do or when I was concerned about what others would think. I’d love to see you in Athens, but the decision is yours. Good luck!

It’s not enough for Florida to win a national championship; the very next day their fans are on message boards posing as UGA fans making lame remarks. What a classless program and fan base. I would rather live the rest of my life as a Bulldog never seeing another national championship in Athens than to spend one day as Florida trash.

By DawgDayAfternoon

therealtruth

You’re correct, UGA’s academic programs have become as intellectually rigorous as its athletic programs are physically rigorous. Greg Reid can only gain admission to UGA by growing intellectually in the classroom to supplement his physical growth on the football field. There’s a holistic (physcial, intellectual and spriritual) approach to developing all students and student-athletes at UGA. Coach Richt and his staff have promoted this approach since he arrived. For CMR, it really is about helping young men become young adults.

But that’s not where it ends…

UGA also has excellent academic assistance programs for its student-atheletes. They’ll be advised, tutored and coached for their classroom assignments just like they are for their football assignments. Coach Richt wants smart players as well as those who are gifted physically. There’s simply no way to succeed in Division I or at the professional level without improving yourself intellectually as well as physically while in college.

ATLDawg272,

Florida fans have class. The Gators won it all this year and that’s that. It’s the Georgia fans who can’t stand Florida and talk smack all the time. Now that’s not saying Gator fans don’t talk smack because they do. Why can’t we all just get along because after it’s all said and done non of us played in the game. Big ups to the Gators on a great season and most of all Big ups to the SEC. It’s the best conference hands down and we continue to show that by winning it all. SEC SEC SEC!

Reid will end up at georgia. Florida’s loaded at his position and he wouldn’t play much there. At Ga, he can start immediately, and bring a national title to Athens! Uf will go downhill quick when Tebow, Spikes and Harvin leave. UGA will own the SEC next year—-mark it down.

After playing against Reid for his entire career, I believe he is feeding his voracious ego with all this recruiting attention. Looks like you gayturds would have enough to talk about on your own blogs today without getting on a Georgia blog and doing everything you can to run the Dawgs in the ground. Thats what I dislike most about the gayturds. They have to many fans that are just totaly classless. Last night during the game I think that lack of class rubbed off on the football team too. I saw many instances of the gayturds pushing and taunting Oklahomas players. The one that really comes to mind is on the first long pass that oklahoma threw The Gayturd defender made a big hit on the oklahoma receiver and he was shaken up on the gayturds sideline. 4 or 5 gayturds that were not even in the game rushed over and were taunting the injured oklahoma receiver. I even remember one time seeing someone wearing a gayturd shirt and carrying a clipboard that could have been a coach push a Oklahoma player after a play that ended on the gayturd sideline. So Greg Reid we would love to have you at Georgia but if you want to get involved with that classless bunch down in Gainsville, good luck.

Let the kid go where he wants. Love to have him, don’t blame him for playing the “celebrity” game that college recruiting has become. Later, if he don’t perform on the field, he will be treated differently by the same folks, no loyalty there. Now on Ga vs. Fla program, I am a BULLDOG, but I saw a FLA team last night and this year that was very impressive. But the truth is the truth, FLa coaches and AD don’t give a hoot about academics, they are building a championship team. They accept recruits that have trouble passing and their GPA shows that. I read a quote from Urban Meyer, we are not worrying about academics this week as we are preparing for a National Championship. They can worry about catching up next week. That about says it all on his priorities. Urban also has no fellowship or loyalty to his “coaching” professionals, constantly making snide remarks about their stands on issues. I think he is a classless, selfish, but fundamentally good NFL coach. One day soon the program will be cited for violations, where there is smoke, there is fire.

Greg needs to stop visiting with these schools and start focusing on his grades. I would hate to have a talent like his not being to play football. He had a 2.2 GPA at the beginning of the season and his SAT scores are still not posted. Curious how much of his 2.2 GPA are core classes, and not elective classes. Lowndes HS coaches failed guiding this kid to a better life.

there are few high school recruits who would benefit from a program like “uga”. The academics is very fulfilling and the program is a pro player mill… look at all the players nvolved in ga football in the pros now. Anyway, i know for a fact that a certain qtrbk in chi town was just not ready to make the leap forward due to a program only getting out and not putting back. the qtrbk at a certain florida university can even consider a pro carreer and will play 1 more lame year with no real growth. if i thought i was good enough to go to the next level, wouldn’t stay a “joe college” and take all that punishment for free.

If he’s smart, he will officially become a UF GATOR! I mean that UGAY’s most hated enemy since they have won more national championships than UGAY, unless he will be attending UGAY for their gymnastics program. I mean 3 national titles in football in 12 years, speaks volume when compared to 1 national title in the last 28 years. To “Georgia Fans are LOSERS”, you classify as a loser yourself. You spout completely unintelligible garbage, a complete waste of perfectly good space. Your comment regarding Larry Munson was out of line and uncalled for. You could only wish to achieve the success and have the character that he does. Maybe you should make better use of your time by sharpening up your grammatical skills (or lack thereof), rather than commenting on what you know nothing about.

With that said, if Reid wants to play for a man of character and to shape his own, he will play for UGA. If he would rather play for a dirtbag and learn how to win in a classless fashion, then he will play for UF. I don’t envy UF fans in the least, especially after watching the interview with Meyer last night. What an obnoxious, arrogant, ungrateful, and classless jerk…

To Georgia Fans are LOSERS,

You are obviously trash yourself. I agree that you need to work on your grammatical skills. Wow white trash rednecks?? Have you ever stepped on a football field in your life? Seriously have you ever thrown a football besides with your little sister in the front yard?

Mark Richt is a great Christian man, and one of the best guys around. A prick? Get real, he’s a lot nicer than Florida’s jerk of a coach. While Urban is a good coach, he’s a narcissistic and classless b*******. UGA is a great mascot, and our new one is actually nice and let Kirk Herbstreit pet it. Aside from LSU’s tiger, and maybe Colorado’s buffalo, Georgia probably has the best live mascot in college football.

And about the Larry Munson thing- SCREW YOU! To get on here and say you hope another team’s radio commentator isn’t around much longer, that is really low.

And don’t look now but Aaron Murray (the #1 high school QB in the state of Florida), Washaun Ealey (58 rushing touchdowns and almost 3,000 yards, and Branden Smith (best high school player in the state of Georgia), and some good linemen are coming to Athens they will make us tough to beat in about two years, and Tebow, Spikes, and Harvin will all be gone by then.

After his visit on the 16th, there really isn’t any need to look any further in my opinion. All the people here in Ga. outside of Lowndes County never had anything descent to say about Reid anyway. All the talk was very negative especially out of north Georgia. So it’s really amazing to read all these blogs about how great it will be to have him at UGA. He made a strong commitment to Florida and i think he should stick to it. Greg, if you’re ready this dude what other stage can possibly be bigger than Florida? I think you would be turning down one of the biggest opportunities of a lifetime if you choose any other college than Florida. Every other team in the SEC is just flat out second best. Man put yourself in a position to win. Winning doesn’t come easy but you always want to put yourself in the best possible position to win. No disrespect to UGA, but a player of Reid’s caliber needs to play at Florida. Florida is the smart decision.

Florida will be returning 19 out of 22 starters next year. Well, with the exception of Harvin and Spikes who I’m sure will enter the NFL draft, but 17 out of 22 will be back next year to dominate once again including TEBOW. REID should go to FLORIDA because all his life he’s been a winner. Urban Meyer and that Florida program is just absolutely awesome and i know that they know what they would be getting in our kid REID. REiD is a special talent and whoever lands him is in for a special treat.

Yes, Meyer is a classless-jerk. I mean, how could he allow his players to clear the bench after their first touchdown in Jacksonville and just stand on the sidelines laughing about it. Then, when his star running back is pulled over for DUI, no one has to hear about it. Oh wait, that wasn’t Meyer…

Well surprise, surprise! Arrogant, disrespectful, delusional Gator fans abound here following a win in their 2nd MNC game in 3 years—who’d thunk it? No doubt about it, Gators had a great 2008 season capped by a great win on Thurs. night, CONGRATULATIONS! But to say things like, “Georgia is an ANNUAL also ran” and “Florida IS going to win MANY more MNC w/Urban for MANY years” is just typical Gator ignorance.

Yep, the Gators win it all EVERY, SINGLE year; been that way since way back in 1933. I mean, that 2007 Gators team was UNSTOPPABLE. Same’s true for them 2005, 04, 03, and 02 Florida teams. Game over! No point in even playing the season in 2009 RIGHT lizards???
Jeez—I’m sure glad I don’t already KNOW what’s gonna happen NEXT year or it wouldn’t be nearly as much FUN! You Gator fans cease to amuse me—LOL!
FACT is, many SEC teams and others across the nation including a healthier, hungrier, nastier group of Dawgs will be ready for the Gators next year. See ya at the Cocktail Party after UGA’s bye week on 10/31/09!

Greg Reid, Go wherever your heart leads you!

FL is just upset that he may have changed his mind thats why they find themselves bashing UGA. Its funny how they always call us the whiners. FL has been a bunch of crybabies ever since the days of spurrier. Im from valdosta and now attend UGA and could have easily grown up a FL fan and went to school there, but i cant stand the smug arrogant attitudes that spurrier imposed on the people of gaineville many years ago. hes an *ss and so are the fans. frankly if his grades dont improve he wont be going to school here. We are loaded with talent and have another great recruiting class. I dont know if we win the east next year, but i feel we will be better off than we were this year. better O and D line which is what killed us this year along with injuries and frankly ive been bigger fan of king than moreno. i liked it more when we used a slew of backs instead of one premier back. We seemed to run better in those days. And i cant wait to see what logan and cox can do. we will have a 2 QB system next yr. GO DAWGS!!!
