Lassiter TE Lutzenkirchen meets with new Auburn offensive coordinator
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
The long, wild recruiting ride for Lassiter tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen could lose some turbulence today. New Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn will be in town to speak to the 6-foot-4, 245-pound tight end, Lutzenkirchen indicated via text message on Wednesday night.
What does this mean for the Tigers’ soft verbal commitment? Most likely, Lutzenkirchen will finally get some answers as to the direction of the Auburn offense and his role in that system.
Malzahn is one of the innovators of the “Wildcat” offense and a firm user of the spread, which is a big draw for Lutzenkirchen. The Trojans ran the spread this season under first year coach Chip Lindsey, and the star tight end shined with more than 1,000 yards receiving.
With Malzahn’s spread attack, Tulsa was one of the most prolific offenses in the country, leading the nation in yards per game, second in scoring and seventh in passing and rushing.
Lutzenkirchen is still trying to settle on official visit dates to Tennessee and Alabama. Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban has visited with the young prospect, and Lutzenkirchen and his family have taken an unofficial visit to Knoxville. He also has been to Florida twice unofficially and Florida State on an official visit.

I saw you play this season Phillip -you’ll be a great college player wherever you go.
Auburn has had a turbulent time the past month but we are still Auburn. Our new coaching staff has a fire & energy that you can be a big part of; on the ground floor really. Also, everyone will promise “playing time”. If you saw us last year, you know it’s absolutely true you could see immediate playing time -just ask Trott.
War Eagle -hope you’ll stick with AU but best wishes whatever your decision.

Lutz-
You have a great talent so do yourself a favor go anywhere but Auburn. I think it is going to be a disaster for several more years and then they will hire a good head coach.
UF, FSU, TN or AL are all good choices.
Thanks
