Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson visits Gainesville WR
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
One day after visiting commit Will Jackson of Farragut High in Knoxville, Tenn. and prospect Nolan MacMillan of The Hun School in Princeton, N.J., Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson turned his focus toward the 2010 recruiting class when he dropped in on Gainesville junior receiver Tailer Jones earlier today.
“Coach Johnson seems like a great guy,” said Jones, who holds scholarship offers from Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland, Miami, Ole Miss, North Carolina, N.C. State, Ohio State, South Carolina and West Virginia.
“He comes across as real low key with no hype. He doesn’t try to overexert himself. He acts like he is.”
Johnson was joined by assistant coach Jeff Monken.
“They talked about Georgia Tech being a great school and how a degree from there is one of the best you can get,” Jones said.
“They also talked about how they’re able to compete with some of the best teams in the ACC.”
The short meeting included a brief discussion on the Jan. 31 junior day itinerary at Georgia Tech.
“Coach Johnson just kind of gave me an outline on what will happen on junior day,” Jones said.
Jones plans to attend junior days at Notre Dame and Ohio State during the previous weekend.
“I have a lot of interest in Georgia Tech,” Jones said, when asked how he rates the Jackets.

Time will tell. Coach needs to recruit these kind of players if we want to jump to the next level..

You are absolutely right gt4ever. CPJ can coach, and I have no doubts that with the right players, his offensive system can succeed against the best teams in the country. We will beat mediocre teams and go to bowls with current talent level, but to step up, we need to recruit the best players.
Thus far, I look at our 2009 class, and it doesn’t look like were their yet. It’s not terrible, but nothing that would excite me either. Rivals has us in the bottom half of the ACC in recruiting. If anything, we have fallen off from the talent that C.G. was bringing in.
I’m not ready to right CPJ and his staff off after one recruiting class, but I think 2010 is gonna be key. We must get better athletes into our program.

Tampa:
If there is anything that this season tells you, it’s that it’s not the level of talent we get, it’s what CPJ does with that talent that makes a successful team (see what happens to UGA and their top recruiting classes, or what happened to all those great recruits CG brought in - it took CPJ to bring them up to their potential that was not seen during CG’s time). We have 16 out of 22 of our starters returning, so this year’s recruiting class is really about filling some holes for next year.
So you are right - 2010 will be the big year, and so far he has made some pretty good inroads on the upcoming seniors.

Scout has us ranked 25th in recruiting right now. We only had one better class than that with CG.

Come on down to the flats Will “the thrill” Jackson! LOL!
And bring Rollin’ Nolan MacMillan with you! LOL!
We can open this triple option up with a passing attack and be unstoppable. Josh “the Robot” Nesbitt is just waiting on a couple of WRs that can catch the ball.

Rivals has us ranked #39 behid NC, FSU, Miami, VT, Clemson, Maryland, and VA. I’m not aying that a high ranked recruiting class is a sure recipe for success. You need good players and good coaching to compete at the highest level. I think we’ve got the coaching, I just hope those coaches can recruit the athletes to go along with that coaching. That’s yet to be seen.

At least one techmite gets it. When will the rest of them put down the crack pipe and understand that unless they do exactly the above they will remain second rate and could even get worse instead of better.

Josh Nesbitt couldn’t complete 50% against air. He’s nothing but one of these fling it and pray types. Calvin Johnson couldn’t make Nesbitt look good.

Demaryus Thomas better get away from Tech before he sabotages his NFL chances. Kid’s got talent and Josh Nesbitt is a worse passer than Reggie Ball.

we got two good QB’s coming in and Jaybo can pass. Thomas is not selfish…he will stay.

Tech, what about the QB up at Gainesville? I saw video on him and he is better than everything that we have now. He can pass and run. What is it Arkansas, West Virginia, and Ole Miss know about him that we dont? We need to find out, because he looks good!

Nesbitt needs to show a 100% improvement on throwing the football. Tech needs a better offensive line will allow him to set back in the pocket and throw. If CPJ made one mistake, it was not using Greg Smith the second half of the season. Cory Earls is the fastest player on the team, but didn’t catch many balls if any. Throw the ball more and use more than one WR as a target.
