College decision is academic for Blessed Trinity’s Crisafi

Blessed Trinity offensive lineman Matt Crisafi has scheduled official visits to Samford on Friday, Middle Tennessee State on Jan. 16 and Gardner-Webb on Jan. 23. But his focus on football is secondary.

More important to him are each college’s business schools, because he considers his college choice more an academic than athletic one.

“The football part is very important, and I have certain requirements with that, but in the end, it’ll come down to which one suits me best academically,” said the 6-foot-3, 304-pound Crisafi, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150. “A lot of guys don’t worry as much about academics as I do.

“My goal isn’t to just play three years and get drafted,” he added. “I’m looking for a school that can set up a career for me. This decision is going to last me a lifetime.”

Although he is no longer considering Tulane and Delaware, Crisafi is talking with William and Mary, Furman and Miami-Ohio. He said he might schedule visits there. But academics come first with Crisafi, a GACA All-Star who graded out at 90 percent this season.

“If I have the chance, I’d definitely consider [football beyond college], but I’m not looking for the school promising to send me to the NFL,” he said. “I’m looking for the school that can set me up with a career or a master’s degree.”
