Son of former UGA player catches the attention of Bulldogs for 2010

One of the state’s top juniors, Buford’s Kolton Houston has caught the attention of UGA.

“[UGA assistant] coach Stacy Searles really likes him, and he is definitely on their radar,” Buford coach Jess Simpson said.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive tackle/offensive guard, has offers from South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Stanford. His father, Shane Houston, played two years for the Bulldogs in the late 80’s.

“When I first started getting recruited I wanted to go to Georgia because I grew up a Bulldog fan, but as I’m getting looked at by more schools I must say I’m wide open,” Houston said.

Houston said he has recently been in contact with Maryland and feels the Terrapins will be the next to offer.

“He is one of those kids that will be recruited by everyone,” said Simpson.

Simpson said Houston has the frame and athleticism to play on either side of the ball, but Houston said he wants to be on the offensive line.

“There is something about run blocking,” he said. “I love running the ball down the field.”

Houston said he does not have a dream school, but he hopes to receive offers from some of the Big 12 powerhouses like Oklahoma and Texas. He plans to commit this spring.

“I want to get it all over with,” he said.

Sounds like he needs to go to Tech if he likes run blocking.

Why aren’t we getting more Dtackles this year? After Owens, Atkins, and Weston leave….who we got aside from DTyson?

Dawgman, you’ve got Arby Jones and Derrick Lott coming in this year at DT. Jones is rated by scout as the #1 DT in the nation. That’s a little high, considering that he’s only played DT a few times. He’s a DE in high school. They’ll be soph or RS freshman by the time Owens, Adkins and Weston leave.

There’s been talk of moving Bean over to DT in the spring, but that may or may not happen.

You also have guys like Brandon Wood that can step in there with Tyson.

There is also Toby Jackson coming in with this class that is being recruited as a DE. But at 6-4 255lbs before hitting campus and running a 4.9 40yd, he’ll be converted to interior line as well. Just my opinion, but I can’t think of any DE UGA has had lately that was post 4.7 in the 40.

Who cares who you mutts have in the middle of your defensive line… its stil offensive! LOL (wait, a moment, you’ll get it).

The existing group of dog DTs haven’t shown the ability to maintain the discipline needed to handle the Johnston triple option! Keep them around as long as you want to. LOL. Josh “the Robot” Nesbitt will continue to make them look silly.

Yet another in-state recruit with absolutely no interest in Georgia Tech football. The list goes on and on and keeps growing. The Techies thought their first fluke 3 point win over Georgia in eight years would somehow magically make them a hot commodity. There hasn’t been a single shred of evidence to support this theory.

MAybe someone can help me with this but Georgia has not hit on these defensive lineman lately. Our D line was aweful last year. With the entire line coming back this year, I hope 5 star guys like Deangelo Tyson step up and earn his grade. I think Toby Griffin is going to be a beast at DE, just based on how hungry he is. With both lines coming back in tact next year I hope we can at least rush the passer and run block for Samuels and Caleb. Tell me when we had an all american d lineman performance.

Hey dawgfan1911, I think that the position the Dawgs had trouble with was DE. The DTs played ok. What we didn’t see was a pass rush from the DE positions. That’s been a given the last five or six years.

I agree that Toby could make a difference. BTW, it’s Toby Jackson from Griffin. But we can call him whatever he wants if he brings heat on the QB.
