Tift’s DE Shayon Green offered by Georgia Tech and Miami

Tift County’s Shayon Green committed to Purdue three months ago. But Green, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound senior defensive end, got an offer from Georgia Tech and a surprise call during the holidays from the University of Miami, and that has made him at least reconsider his earlier decision.

“I was very surprised [Miami] called me. They really liked my tape and said I was a hustler,” said Green, who had 125 tackles this season. “They offered me a scholarship and they want me to visit. I’m trying to decide if I’m going down there or not.”

Ole Miss also offered Green.

I am a Tift Co. season seat holder and saw this kid play for two years. He is an animal. Can play on a major college defense in my opinion. Always wondered why Dawgs and others never showed much interest … thought maybe grades. Anyhow Green is VERY superior to Dawgs commit Gilliard who I saw in person this year. Trust me. —— So readers know I saw Isreal Troupe play many games and thought he would have his troubles at UGA. Didn’t like the contact in high school games so I didn’t figure he would being “stretching out over the middle” against Fla. or LSU. Not Green as he is a gamer.

Keep your focus and your grades up and you can be part of the winning team.

Remember: The Robot will win!

Shayon, we call Josh Nesbott the Robot because he’s automatic! And it rhymes! LOL!

Commitments need to mean things. Purdue has been planning on this kid for 3+ months and, as a result, has probably been turning other DEs away. The kid needs to tell Miami & GTU “Thank you but no thank you”.

Remember, the grass isn’t always greener. The girl you dumpped for the prom queen was actually the keeper. Don’t go for the flavor of the month, keep your word and be the man at Purdue instead of just another player elsewhere.

Could not agree more with you Greg, on ALL points.

That is why there is a strong movement afoot within the NCAA to have at least one, if not two, early signing periods. The coaches from GT and Miami were obviously lazy in their work ethics….why else would it take them so long to realize that Shayon was a talent they needed on their team?

If they did know he was ‘good’, then obviously the reason they are now late to the party is no doubt because Shayon was not their first choice.

Even if he was their ‘first’ choice….why are they now, less than a month away from signing day, offering him and trying to get a visit? IF that is the case, then Shayon has to question their hustle, effort and their overall abilities to do their job.

Who would want to play for a coaching staff that you know either:

1.) You are not their first choice, so they’ll try to recruit over you next year, and if they do, they’ll view you as ‘back up’ material and easily disposed of

2.) If they are just now noticing him, then they are lazy and inept at the their jobs. Do you really want to play for a lazy coach?

Why would ANYONE want to play for any other team than the one that values you and your abilities, and told you so from the start? Why would anyone want to play or be a part of any organization that doesn’t ‘need’ you?

Oh, and btw, Miami can’t hold GT’s and Purdue’s jocks when it comes to academics and value of the degree..

Shayon, you are a Boilermaker my friend.

Follow in the foot steps of Roosevelt Colvin (Patriots), Shaun Phillips (Chargers), Anthony Spencer (1st round pick of the Cowboys last year and starter this year), Akin Ayodele (Dolphins), Ray Edwards (Vikings), Landon Johnson (Panthers), Gilbert Gardner (Titans), Niko Koutivides (Broncos), Cliff Avril (Lions) and Chike Okeafor (Cardinals)….all of whom played at Purdue in the last 10 years and all of whom start at either DE or OLB in the NFL right now.

Shayon, are you next?

Those ten players mean it’s one DE or OLB per year out of Purdue that starts in the NFL right NOW.

Are you next?

Shayon, when Miami said “hustler”, they weren’t refering to football.

If Miami called Shayon during the holidays it is a recruiting violation as that time is within the dead period. For that reason, I doubt the offers from both schools.

The Miami offer WAS there before the holidays.

I heard about it in November.

Sorry guys. I get a little excited about football. When I heard his nickname, I thought that it rhymed with his last name so I made that presumption. I was wrong.

Nesbitt. Nesbitt. Nesbitt. Nesbitt. Nesbitt. Nesbitt. Nesbitt. Nesbitt. Nesbitt. Nesbitt. Nesbitt. Nesbitt.

That ought to help me remember. Of course it doesn’t count if I just cut and paste it over and over! LOL!

Hey bugspray, I think one should break out the tape of the 3rd quarter of the game after Thanksgiving at Athens where Roddy Jones, Jonathan Dwyer and Josh Nesbitt beat the entire Uga “defense” to garner the victory against the preseason national champs, or you could call ‘em paper champs.

Good luck winning 8 with Joe Cox and Caleb King, you’re gonna need it.

Dear Shayon Green,

I am a Miami Alumni I was born in Georgia, I attended Washington High and I am a graduate of U of Miami now living in South East DeKalb. I would love to see you play at U of Miami or at least an ACC team.

I teach at Southwest DeKalb now and encourage any of my high school student athletes not to even look at an SEC school.

Shayon Green, young MAN! Athlete graduation rates rank last in SEC and has been for years check it out online yourself. You’ll at least make your Dad and Mom proud of you if you attend an ACC school because you will graduate your first job is to get the degree your parents are sending you for that wont happen playing in the SEC!

You’ll just be another young black player in a conference that still caught in a 1955 time warp!

I would rather have you play for Clemson or GA Tech and run the ball against Miami for 4 years I really would honest!

If you want to just play football and big the big man on campus and have people talk about how great your stuff doesn’t smell on 680 the Fan and 790 the zone here in Georgia for example then go and play for the SEC, you might make pro but you won’t have a degree, you won’t learn anything how to run or start a business for example.

Or you can attend a Conference like the ACC, graduate with a degree, learn how to start your own business or run someone’s or if you go pro you’ll at least know how to manage your money.
