Washington’s Smith plans to announce college decision Sunday

The state’s No. 1 prospect, Branden Smith, will announce his college decision on Sunday.

The defensive back from Booker T. Washington will choose between Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Florida State during the Under Armour All-America game, which kicks off at 8 p.m.

Georgia appears to be the school to beat for Smith, and his mother endorses the Bulldogs. However, Smith claims he switches between favorite schools every day and won’t know for sure until the game.

“Everybody has been giving me advice on why each school is the best for me, and I’ve been listening,” Smith said.

“Everything is still going through my mind. Whatever my heart tells me on Sunday, that’s the school I’m going to pick. The good thing is that I know I can’t go wrong with any of the four schools. They are all great schools.”

Hope you choose the Dawgs, Branden. It’s far enough for a little bit of independence and close enough to be near your family (read mom). At least those were my a couple of my personal reasons for attending UGA. Also, it’s a great school with a beautiful campus. As a former Dawg, I hope you choose UGA. As a mom, getting your kid off to ANY college/university is a crowning moment in motherhood. congrats on whatever school you choose to attend.

As a Dawg fan it would great to see Branden choose the Dawgs. However, if he is truly changing his mind every day, would it not be better to wait. Why rush it?

Choosing a college is a life-changing decision, athlete or not, but even more so for an athlete with a potential professional future. I really wish that they could all make the best choice wihtout being pressured and rushed but I guess that comes with the territory.

Best of luck, Branden, with your decision. You would be a welcome addition to the Dawg Nation.

Go Dawgs!

Mike your right. Georgia, as a State, a School and as an Athletic program is head and shoulders about Fla., FSU and Alabama and they should not be mentioned in the same breath as the Dawgs.

Ed, it may have taken 100 years but we’re in our fourth title game since the Dawgs last played in one. And next week we should have our third championship ring since yours as well. At least we keep putting money in the SEC coffers for all to take advantage of. You’re welcome!

Come play for the Dawgs. We’ll be preseason number one next year, which is all that counts. We have top 5 recruiting classes every year, and it shows on the field, where we never lose - especially to Bama, UF or Tech. Tech sucks; we hate them and their stupid coach. We also hate the Urban Crier and Nick Satan. Actually we hate everyone except for St. Richt! To Hell with Tech! Go Dawgs go! p.s. If you don’t come to Georgia we will hate you too.

The report in the Tallahassee Democrat yesterday refered to B. Smith as one of the lesser known college prospects in this All-Star game. They seemed to think he was headed to FSU. Not an impact player like many others that have committed to the team. Well there you go……One mans crap is another mans ice cream.

Alabama is the best choice, undoubtedly. Ga.=chronic underachievement FSU=2nd tier ACC school and then the gaytors….do you wanna wear jorts & have the H.C. leave in two years to go to Notre Dame? not to mention the chance of the QB kissing you on national tv?

FSU—-done from being a prime time school

Florida—- Offensive school, Meyer is not known to be the best for defensive recruits

UGA—-go to a school that will lose 2-3 games every year and wastes the talent they have….from pre-season #1 to nothing in less than half a year

Bama—-Saban is known for being a defensive coach and specifically for coaching defensive backs. The top DB is the SEC plays for Bama (Rashad Johnson), and Saban will develop you the most

Really an easy decision for a DB, do you want to go to a school then leave it and be forgotten, or do you want to become a legend for a state. THe great Bama players are never forgotten. ROLL TIDE!

I have a friend who has a cousin who works with a relative of a friend of the Smith family who sez Eastern Washington University has an outside chance at receiving a phone call from a school teacher where Smith attends in hopes of getting an invitation to next year’s school Christmas party, I think.

By tide rising

Bama is easily the best choice for him. If he goes to Bama he has the AP coach of the year coaching his position. So if he wants to develop and be the best at his position why not go to the school whose coach coaches his position?

Florida is more known for great offensive players and if he does go there of all places he will be hated forever in ATL. Besides, UF already has several great young freshman corners, Joe Haden specifically.

FSU has fallen to 2nd tier status in the ACC in general and especially to UF.

My suspicion is that he will end up at UGA but I can’t imagine why except that its the home state school. If he goes to UGA he will play under a terrible defensive coordinator in Martinez. Why play under a terrible defensive coordinator when he could be coached personally by Saban? Also, no offense to UGA fans but why go to UGA so that you can just lose 4 straight to UF? UGA is right back to living in the gators shadow.

Still I think he ends up at UGA. No suspense here.

Good luck with your decision. We hope that you decide to come to Georgia. With players like you, Georgia can take our program to the next level-we are not far from the top every year. It only takes a season without injuries and great recruits to take Georgia to the top. You can be a part of that next year.

I will refuse to watch what is sure to be an exciting game due to the very reason of premadonias in their “coming out party” who blantly show they do not care about their teams but only themselves. If you truly love the sport and the team you want to play for then you advise them of your decision and disclose once you are sure of your choice. The fact that a bunch of “kids” who use the game as their stage tell me one thing, they are merely kids! Grow up!

To Tide Rising: Yes Nick Saban is a great football coach. However, as a father, I would never entrust my sons to a man of such character. On the other hand, I would be excited to have a man like Mark Richt mentor my sons.

Unfortunately, a lot of people think like you do. Football is more important than life. There is no finer man in college football than Mark Richt. He is a man of good character. As a father that would be much more important to me than having my son play for a man who might leave in the middle of the night if another school offers more money.

It is truly sad when someone like Nick Saban is chosen coach of the year. Such choices indicate winning is more important than character, etc. Sad but true.

Branden from one Washingtonian to the next. Go with your heart. No matter where you go to school to play ball you are a student athlete. Make your decision and don’t be pressured into choosing one school over the other. No matter what you have to be able to perform on a higher level at all schools. Enjoy the ride, because showtime starts after graduation.

Make your family and yourself proud. Get your degree and play hard. Your Washington Family is behind you as well as the other guys that are playing college football.

Take care and God Bless.
