Georgia Tech-bound Crenshaw makes bold prediction after all-star game
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Jefferson County defensive end Chris Crenshaw likes to think big.
Crenshaw was one of seven Georgia Tech commitments that participated in Monday’s GACA North-South All-Star Football Classic. What was Crenshaw’s opinion of the other members of Tech’s recruiting class?
“I was impressed with all my future teammates,” Crenshaw said Monday evening. “I really think we can take Tech to a national championship.”
The Jackets were represented in the 70th-annual contest by commits Crenshaw, Emanuel County Institute lineman J.C. Lanier, Fitzgerald safety Jemea Thomas, Newnan lineman Raymond Beno, Westside-Macon linebacker Julian Burnett and Flowery Branch defensive ends Izaan Cross and Daniel Drummond.
However, it was Florida commit Greg Reid of Lowndes who grabbed the headlines during this year’s all-star event. The AJC all-classification player of the year returned two punts for touchdowns to give the South a 17-0 victory over the North.

Greg Reid didn’t have an offer from Tech or UGA. That might have something to do with Florida’s dubious position in the AJC academic rankings.

RDD, While I will be the last one to defend a uga guy, Geori may have a point. Not even uga offered the kid and the gators snapped him up. If you have read the articles about the investigations on acedemics you would have to at least wonder why such a talent would be allowed to get out of state.
While nothing is for sure, you can at least assume the recruiting class as a whole at uf probably under performs in the class room.
I do find it a bit interesting that the comment came from a uga guy…pot calling the kettle don’t cha think?

Oh, and why do I assume that Georgi is a dawg fan? No Tech fan would have allowed uga to be mentioned favorably with Tech with regards to acedemics. But with this kid, maybe even the dawgs have standards that are higher than uf’s.
If my assumption is wrong, and the kid is a high qualifier, then shame on both Tech and uga for allowing this talent to get out of state.

Perhaps Mr. Crenshaw needs a little bit of a history lesson. That is an extremely bold prediction for a program that has only TWO 10 win seasons in the past 50 years. Only twice in the past half a freakin’ century has Georgia Tech even been remotely relevant, and all of the sudden they are talking National Titles. Hilarious.

For the purposes of this discussion, they have done a hell of alot more than the Tech has. Do you seriously want to get in to a p!ssing contest with Georgia? Are you really that stupid? It will not even be close. Do you realize Georgia Tech has only seven 10 win seasons in its ENTIRE HISTORY? Chew on that for a second and then get back to me. If you still want me to embarass you I will be happy to oblige.
National Championship? Geez. That would require playing a bowl game in January, soemthing Georgia Tech rarely ever does. Keep flapping them gums Techies. Truly hilarious.

Being a current Valdosta/Lowndes resident, I hear things from time to time about football players, etc. The word down here in the dirty south is that Greg Reid will not qualify for D1-A (FBS) athletics for 2009. Should this prove true it shouldn’t surprise anyone. Lowndes High is one of the worst academic performers in the state.

Its easy for uga to finish in the top 10 since they start every year HIGHLY over ranked! You dont want to get into the p** contest with someone who knows football. You uga fans always want to bring up the past when youre beating us 7 straight but not the 3 straight we beat you before that or our 4 NC’s in which our last was in 1990 and yours in1980!! You dont want to talk about the past then do you? And dont come back at me with your weak @ss shared National Title crap because before the BCS there was almost never a Team crowned #1 by all the polls ,and NO yours was not either!!! Yeah we got all hyped after beating you but not enough to storm the field and celebrate during the game!!! That was crap talk and gum flapping at its best last year after you beat UF. Then you whip a sorry Hawaii team , and youre talking National Titles thats funny! ! You might want to think about something else, you should never mention uga and USC in the same sentence. They finish a legit top 10 every year because I dont remember them getting SMOKED at least once a year and losing 3 every year. And I know were not even your rival anymore but you still think your Floridas rival, what a bunch of MORONS!!!

And we won this year which is really the most important statistic of them all. We will always out p** you.

Fret not, my fellow Dawgs!! I come bearing glad tidings!!
Seeing how the Florida Gators….who have been beating us with even more consistency than that with which we have been beating Tech lo these past 20 years or so….are getting oh-so-close to tying the series record with us (all we really have left over them at this point), I have decided to go back in series hsitory and pick out some losses to “not count” going forward.
It worked back in the 50’s when Tech was about to tie the series record during The Drought……it’ll work with the Gators.
And, if they continue to dominate us, I’ll simply pick out a few more games to ignore.
And THAT’S…..another Bulldog Point of Pride!

If UGA had beaten GT, the fans would still think they have the greatest program in the nation, but they didn’t,SOOOtheir coaches are bad, the team is out of control and there needs to be some changes made. Well think of this—- If you have all those 4 & 5 star players, and they don’t produce, who do you blame? I would say the coaches. I am hearing an awful lot of talk about National Championships out of Tech fans on this blog. This is a program that has a grand total of ONE top 10 ranking to hang its hat on in the past 18 freaking seasons. This is a program that has yet to win a modern ACC Title outright. This is a program that has never once even sniffed the prospect of playing in a BCS bowl, let alone winning one. This is a program that has went 3-6 in bowl games this decade, with not a single solitary win over a ranked team. This is a program that rewards its players with championship-like rings for a championship-less 9-3 season. What incentive do they have to shoot for National Titles? You treat them like Gods for going to the lousy Chicken Bowl. Yet here Tech fans are pounding their underdeveloped chests about National Titles. It is simply absurd. Tech fans are a total joke.

rediculous,
The point I believe Dan was amking is NOT that UGA chose not to count those two losses to Tech’s V-12 trainee-laden team…..it’s when and why.
UGA (and most other teams) played quite a few “non-traditional” teams (from military posts and bases) during the war years and , like everyone else, reflects those games in their record books. There were also MANY college teams that used V-12 trainees (who were full-time college enrollees) on their rosters.
UGA, however, didn’t decide to NOT count those two games until in the midst of Tech’s 8-game winning streak 10 years later….when Tech was about to tie the series record. Taking games off your books in that manner is chicken-sh__ and should embarrass every Dawg with any modicum of pride in their belly…..even more than the retirement of Theron Sapp’s number solely for breaking The Drought.

I really don’t care what happened in 1990 or 1980. Certainly, UGA has won more games the last 7 or 8 years. What’s important now is that the tide has now turned - UGA is now being recognized as an underachiever, and Tech as a program that surpasses expectations. UGA’s collapse (yes, collapse) this year, and Tech’s win between the hedges, will mean that more recruits will choose Tech, which means Tech will win more games, etc., etc. Mark “Can’t Win the Big Games” Richt won’t be able to stand the unreasonable pressure that the Dawg Nation will put on him - he’ll be gone in two years. I love it when UGA fans get all tough on Tech fans. Telling them how bad they are and how Tech doesn’t know a real team, blah, blah… Right.
is UGA any better? A mid-level team most years - and in the one year UGA was supposed to be hot, they couldn’t find their a$$ from a hole in the ground. It’s great to beat up on some ugly cousin to make you feel better, but in reality, is UGA any more relevant that Tech? UGA certainly doesn’t rule the region, the SEC, or the National scene in college football.
And it’s particularly funny when some UGA fan digs up an obscure stat that seems - to UGA fans - a clear indication of UGA’s superiority in the world. Like “UGA was in the top 10 2X in the past 6 years.” 6 years - who comes up with that arbtrary number? But UGA fans live and die by these “important” stats. Whatever.
UGA is a mediocre program with fans that like to point the finger at a mediocre program.

Why does this happen every, single time there is an article on either Tech football or UGA football or high school football recruiting or, hell, ANY type of football? Maybe the first two comments are about the actual story (ie - here, the all-star game/recruiting), then - inevitably - a Tech fan uses “UGAg” or “UGAy” -OR- a UGA fan makes some reference to World of Warcraft and then “here we go again” the gloves are off for both. No more talk of recruits, no more talk of the actual all-star game, no more talk of anything remotely relavant. We simply get the same repititious “slams” that Tech and UGA fans have been using back and forth for several years now. We’ve heard them each a hundred times before, and it’s still very old.

If I got a 53% raise for a three point victory over UGA, I would commemorate it with something! I don’t blame the man. He got a lifetime contract to boot. You should always commemorate good fortune. Without that win, it would have been a typical GT season. With another trip to the blue turf bowl. This year, it’s the PEACH BOWL! That’s a season worth commemorating.
Next year, maybe UGA will beat Florida and Richt can give them all rings. I doubt he’ll get a 53% pay raise though.
Funny.

“Do you losers even know how many STARTERS UGA lost this year? All season they played with several back-up players.”
Wow, do you realize that we played a freshmen QB in Jaybo Shaw after our “Starter” QB went down with injuries, behind a very suspect Offensive line that is not truly geared for this triple option offense, with injuries to A-backs and also injuries to the defensive side of the ball. So don’t give me that jargon about “oh man, we lost our starters and can’t win because of it.” Injuries are not an excuse…..play hard with what you have and execute.

HEY LARRY so nice of you to notice my grammar. Im not on here typing a thesis Im responding to all of you uga idiots flooding the Tech blogs. The kid in the story is talking about Titles!!!! Not 10 win seasons you guys have where you beat Ga Southern and Central Michigan. I know Vandy and Kentucky had a couple of good years but for the most part are not very good, and that is who you beat consistently. Look back at the last 10 years and you will see the good teams in the SEC beat you almost every year. Sure you guys have a great coach who has beat us his first 7 years but we finally have a COLLEGE coach who will not be out coached every year by him. This is about winning a Title in the coming years so PLEASE stop talking about your 10 win seasons, you have beat 1 team you werent supposed to beat in that span and that was UF last year!! But I do love how you guys have to hang your hats on the Titles that LSU and UF won like theyre your own. Heck some of my uga buddies are now LSU and UF fans since they are playing us and for a Title….. what a bunch of idiots…now theyre rooting for their rivals…ha ha!!! OH YEAH LARRY YOU CAN CHECK MY GRAMMAR NOW..GUESS YOURE THE NERD or a BEEAACH!!

You “people” on here are the largest collection of PATHETIC TURDS as there is on this planet. The whole bit with the ring commemorating your win over Georgia is just a joke right? Surely you can’t make that much out of it. I guess you can when you are Georgia Tech and you beat Georgia so seldomly. Go ahead and wear your long put away gear and go out and get those brand new Tech car tags and wear them all you can until next year when we subjugate you to where you belong. You can count on us beating the sh*t out of you next year and you know what, we won’t even gloat because we are supposed to beat you LOSERS!!

OK, one last time for the UGA fans who do not know how to read:
The rings are NOT for beating Georgia - they are part of the gift that the Jackets get for playing in the Chik-fil-A bowl. The senior players decided to add the score to the rings. It is a reminder of the whole season.
Unlike UGA, which retired a guy’s number just because he was part of a team that broke GT’s winning streak. I don’t see GT retiring Roddy Jones’ number because of the game he had.

A. a ten win season or B. a national championship? Instead of berating the kid, someone should be givin him kudos for having the “ULTIMATE WINNING ATTITUDE”. “The rings are NOT for beating Georgia”
Then why do they have 45-42 on them? At any rate, okay, the rings aren’t for Georgia. Whatever. That makes it even MORE pathetic. What else is left to award a ring for? Not a damn thing. Only a total joke of a football program like Georgia Tech would give out rings for a 9-3 season. Imagine how ridiculous they will look if you finish 9-4. Tech football will NEVER live it down. Its an embarassment.

Keep telling yourself that, Huh……eventually you will start to believe it. Fortunately for the rest of us, we’re not that simple-minded.
YOUR team retired…..for ever and ever…..the jersey number of the player who scored the TD to lead their 3-win team to a win over a 4-win Tech team.
“But….but…..but I wasn’t even born yet!”
So what? You’re hear now. Petition your AA to “un-retire” Sapp’s number, given how you must obviously recognize its retirement as the epitome of pathetic, given your thoughts on Tech putting the game score on their rings.
Until you do that, you have no leg to stand on. Regurgitate your lame rhetoric all you want……it will not change that fact.
Live with it.

From the obvious snippiness out of the Tech fans I’d have to say even they know making a ring to commemorate the win is pretty douchey, and for a Tech fan to notice that says a lot.
Look, we get it, ya’ll respect beating us a hell of a lot more than we respect beating you. We’re supposed to beat you, if we don’t, it’s a huge disappointment. If Tech beats UGA then they think they could participate in the NFL playoffs and go on to win the Super Bowl. We appreciate the respect, really, I’m just sorry we don’t hold ya’ll with even an ounce of the same regard.

Uptown dog has his head up his up his butt. The nation respects Tech a lot more than UGA. The story on the front page of the AJC yesterday has made national news through the AP. Tech has always been known as an academic school. Now that the athletes rank #1 we have even more respect. To go to school at Tech, you have to work hard in the class room. Two terms of calculus is part of your core classes. At UGA, there are many more programs of study; such as Livestock Management, Horse School, Food Science, Poultry Science… Programs a 4th grader could pass. We don’t offer prgrams at Tech except those that take brains to pass. We have a great football program, baseball program, womens basketball, and the men are at least competitive. UGA must be near the top in the country in number of arrested drunk students. Read the monday edition of the Athens Bannner Harold and see the long list of students picked up for underage drinking and DUI every weekend. Tech is NOT known as a party school.

LMAO @ the UGA and Tech fans who think Reid did not have the grades to get into either UGA or Tech. The fact is that it was no secret for a long time that Reid wanted to go to UF as he grew up a UF fan … just like many of the kids in Valdosta who are 90 minutes away from Gainesville.

Ga Tech fans for the most part are complete idiots. There are a few who are knowledgeable, but the overwhleming majority are just plain idiotic. All one has to do is read these comments. Fact is, UGA has won 14 of the last eighteen games. Go back 25 years and the percentages are just as bad. Tech fans just can’t face reality. CPJ is a great coach and a good man, but he is short term on the Flats as he will be in demand very quickly at Notre Dame or elsewhere. He will have some success, but he won’t beat UGA next year. Possibly in 2010 or 2011. If Stafford coms back in 2009, UGA may pull a “2004 Auburn.”

I’m sorry, but if you go anywhere in the US working with or talking to intelligent peers (and I’ve been on the west coast, the midwest and currently working in New England) and they ask what school did you go to and you respond, Georgia Tech. Every single time, they say oh yeah, the Rambling Wreck from Georgia Tech. Now that, is respect.

Darius, the only real engineering school in the NE is MIT. Other engineers that I work with who went to other engineering schools in that area are idiots….that’s why I moved up the ladder quicker than them. Plus, I’m a northerner who graduated from GT with my bachelors and got my master’s at Penn State and it’s far from a redneck school since it’s in a big city where a lot of employees come from all over to work there. Athens, now that’s a different story. You can call that a redneck town. And where did you go to school? WPI? RPI? Tufts? Phoenix University?

lol @ Think Again - I absolutely love poking fun at Georgia Tech grads and getting them worked up. It is just so easy. I have worked with engineers (mostly engineers with grad degrees) from all of the top schools … MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Princeton, Stanford, Berkeley, Illinois, Northwestern, Cornell, Michigan, Texas, Texas A&M, Columbia, Wisconsin, Purdue, Penn State … and none of them are as sensitive about defending their school as Georgia Tech grads are.
My experience has been consistent among all of the engineers that I have worked with over the years who did not attend Georgia Tech. While they are polite in the presence of Georgia Tech grads, they will laugh at the little redneck school in Atlanta when the Georgia Tech grads are not around. Why? Because most recognize the fact that Georgia Tech is a state school with an undergrad program that is fed primarily by HS grads from Georgia … a state that has one of the worst education systems in the US. You can plop Georgia Tech down in the middle of Manhattan and it will still be a little redneck school as long as it is being fed by Georgia high schools.

Being from Pennsylvania, I could care less if Georgia high school kids attend GT. Most of my friends I graduated with at GT were from Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Michigan Massachusetts and Florida. The fact of the matter is, a lot of students fail out of there because they cannot deal with the curriculum and GT is one of the best engineering schools. Out of all those schools you wrote down out of your book of engineering schools, only MIT and Cal Berkeley are ranked higher than GT when it comes to best engineering schools. That alone is respect on the academic level. And don’t pretend that people who attend other schools don’t defend their school’s academic standing. That’s just a silly argument. I have known several people who stand by their school, and they always argue the difficulty of their schools.
