Recruiting soap operas? Ridgeland WR says UGA is “true love”

Will Ridgeland WR Michael Bowman’s true love come calling? He has said it’s his dream to play for Georgia. But when the Bulldogs didn’t offer by the start of the summer, he committed to Alabama.

Georgia recently stopped by Bowman’s school to see if he was still interested. He said he was willing to listen.

If Georgia fails to land its No. 1 target at wide receiver, Marlon Brown of Memphis, the Bulldogs could make a last-minute rush at Bowman. Will Bowman go with his heart? “We’ll just have to see how things play out,” he said.

Note: Why does college football recruiting have such a fanatical following? Some have suggested because it is a “male soap opera.” Whatever the case, if you like drama, especially among the state’s top college prospects, there is plenty of it to unravel between now and national signing day on Feb. 4. Here are the one of five recruiting soap operas to watch:

I don’t know much about Patterson or Brown or Scout/Rivals stars but hell, if the kid is good enough to be offered by Bammer he should be good enough for the Dawgs. Especially since the Dawgs have been after M. Brown for a year or more and he will not yet commit. I like it when a kid WANTS to be a Dawg !!!

CMR should concentrate on getting some defensive players along with a new defensive coordinator. I would rather have a no name kid with heart and a motor instead of these prima donna thugs UGA has been getting lately. Glad we were able to keep Searles on the offensive side but if BOO BOO doesn’t improve his play calling in the red zone it will all be for naught.

We Bama fans are excited to have someone of Bowman’s obvious talent, but Coach Saban has been quoted as saying (regarding recruits) “when you shop, we shop…..” Bowman either is not very comfortable with his commitment or either just likes staying on the forefront of the recruiting battle. That’s why I think that Bama is still recruiting players like Ruben Randle, Chad Bumphis, and Kendall Kelly. If he wants to be a “Hairy Dog”, he will not be satisfied at Bama, because CNS will push him (and the others) to be their best and if, as I suspect, the desire is not there, it won’t be pretty….

31-1 at the half?!!!

Bowman kid is a talent - but if wants to go to UGA and does get his offer - then more power to him.

If he “de-commits” from Alabama to play for UGA - he is living his dream.

No harm - these are 18 year old kids - and the talent level that UGA and BAMA bring in are very similar. We will replace him with as good or better.

Good luck in your bowl.

Georgia held off on offering Bowman because of concerns that he will not qualify. It was never a question of athletic talent. They told him from the beginning that once he was qualified academically hey would offer him a scholarship.

Didn’t this kid originally commit to Duke?

Munson’s call…..if he’s going to qualify per the NCAA guidelines, he’ll be academically-qualified for UGA. As long as he has no ‘questionable’ score or grade info or a ‘character question’ to raise the eyebrows of Adams and his over-zealous admissions squirrels he’s good to go. From a purely QUANTIFIABLE standpoint, UGA uses the same NCAA-required minimums 98% of D-1A (FBS) schools use.

Tom- Bama offered him speculating that he would qualify. You can offer someone that has not qualified per the NCAA requirements. Those who don’t end up qualifying go to 13th grade at Hargrave. Georgia has been burned in the past offering these guys and as of late we have not needed to offer the “border-line” kids. We are getting the kids that are good to go. Unless the guy is all world we don’t take that chance much any more.

@ BAMA STAN and the other Alabamastan idiots. Ever wonder why UGA hasn’t offered Bowman? HUH? Did it ever cross your beady-eyed thoughtless minds that perhaps at this point he wouldn’t be able to qualify at UGA. Contrary to most peoples perceptions about UGA, the academic standards to get in now are considerably higher than the SEC standard that the likes of Bama, Auburn, Arkansas and Florida adhere to. Richt has been burned before in the past when the admission board turned away players at the last second. Jamar Channey ring a bell for example?

UGA recruits kids that will qualify academically and be a successful student athlete. UGA and Tech (as much as it pains me to say) are both at the top of their respective conferences in entry SAT and GPA. So if Bowman gets an offer late in the process it will be because Richt and his staff feel secure that he will qualify instead of wasting an offer in a year where we have limited schollies to hand out.

Hope we’re clear now. Now go back to your double wide and adjust your rabbit ears on the TV so you can watch Jerry Springer.
