Douglass LB keeps Alabama and Auburn guessing

Alabama and Auburn fans might have to wait until signing day to know for sure where Douglass linebacker Jonathan Atchison will play in college.

Only one thing is clear: Atchison will sign with either Alabama or Auburn.

Atchison was an early commitment to Auburn over Alabama, but Alabama never gave up recruiting him. When Auburn had a coaching change, Atchison had a commitment change to Alabama. Now that Atchison is with the Crimson Tide, he said his two official visits in January will be to Alabama … and Auburn.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Atchison traveled to Alabama this past weekend to watch the team’s practice for the Sugar Bowl. “It was good. I met a few players, talked to some coaches and just hung out.”

Atchison still has an official visit scheduled for Auburn on Jan. 9, and Alabama the following weekend.

Why aren’t any of the SEC, ACC or Division 1 schools looking at players from Camden. I’m asking because I don’t hear any of the players saying these schools are recruiting them. According to a meeting the parents of juniors attended its being said its because of the Coach. Is this true? How can we get schools to look at our players next year.

War Eagle Jonathan,

If you read this, please understand that most AU fans were surprised & displeased at Coach Tuberville’s departure. However, at some point you have to look forward. Auburn is a better school, bigger fan base and (don’t base you opinion over Internet flamer posters), much less fickle fan-wise than UAT that appreciate the players for their efforts & dedication.

We still have the talent to make a run a at a championship next season, especially if we can get some help at the WR position.

Coach Chizik is a defensive-mind that has a college defensive-coordinator streak of 29 unbeaten games in a row. He had a rough stretch at Iowa State but if you look behind the WL record, you see he had a huge job & played mostly true freshmen; which should give you comfort that he bases his playing time on merit: “If you can play immediately, you will”.

War Eagle & Merry Christmas,

Wow, sounds like Coach Saban, except the part where you have to ignore his head coaching career.

You Aubs kill me. RBU have you started the New Years party a little early? I won’t even touch the bigger fan base comment. This from the school the Iowa media identified as Auburn University in Georgia in their published reports after Chiz was named. Better school…why don’t you check out the the latest ratings from US News and Forbes before you make that comment not to mention your lingering problems with SACS. You guys had a nice run during the 6 years we had our self inflicted problems…no doubt. But when the playing field is even you guys lose everytime. Sure go ahead and hit me up with an inevitable cheating comment but coming from the 2nd most penalized school in the NCAA (and Bama no where in the top 20) doesn’t give you a lot of cred. Oh, i’m sure your next comment will be that we are protected by the NCAA. I have heard it all. Enjoy the next several years and several a** kickings from the DAWGS and the TIDE. Championship contention in 2008? You gus moving to the Sunbelt?

If you’re lucky you might place ahead of the Bulldogs…the Missippi State Bulldogs.

JCJ, get your facts straight. The playing field has been even for quite some time. Since Bryant left, Auburn has a record of 16-10 vs bama. Both went through a probationary period during that time. Your school is a joke and having to pay 4 million for a coach proves it. You all should focus more on academics and the poor state of education in the state of Alabama and less on football.

Jonathan,

Alabama sucks! One good season in the last how many years? I didn’t hear much from the closet Tiders the past 10 or 15 years or so. Now that they had a good season, all I hear is how they are now a superior football program. What a joke. It takes more than 1 good season in the last 15 years to be considered that. Look at Auburn’s program and winning percentage over the last 15 years compared to Alabumma. You will clearly see who has DOMINATED who!

Auburn University is the primier school in the state of Alabama academically and athletically. The Alabummers had a good year with a lot of luck. Saint Saban puts his pants on one leg at a time. I would think the Alabummers have been listening to a little too much Finebaum and the many crazies, Shane from Centerpoint, Charles from Reeltown and a host of others. Auburn will be ok with Chizik, who is at this very time in the process of assembling winning staff.

I am a High School coach in Alabama. I like Alabama and Auburn. Bama is alot better now because of Coach Nick Saban. If I had any players that wanted to play at either school now, I would send them to Bama.Auburn has too much Booster problem right now.I have coach several SEC prospects in the past and should have some soon.Auburn will never win another championship until they rid two or three boosters. They have won one in 1957.Bama has won 12.Better facilities, better education, better coaches. It is an easy choice right now.Only time will tell if Coach Chizik turns it around, but he is at the bottom of the mountain as we speak.

Auburn a run at a national championship next year. Your best hope is to finish 3rd in the SEC West.

I actually think you will finish 5th in the West.

“Bigger fan base than Alabama” I know you are a fan and all but be a little realistic. Auburn doesn’t and never has had the fan base than Bama does.

Actually, Jonathan has cancelled his official to Auburn and is throw with visits except to Bama.

That comment is laughable. Your stuck with Chizik (remember 5-19/10 beatings in a row), an inept athletic director and boosters/trustees who want to run the program. Yep … you guys have got it going on!

I love how Barners will mention 6 in a row.

Bama had its worse 10 year period from 1997 to 2007 and has 1 SEC championship.

Auburn had its best perion from 1997 to 2007 and has 1 SEC championship.

Barners will tout Chizick’s record as DC. but they fail to mention the guy that preceeded chizik was fired and had a better record 4-8 and 7-5 the previous 2 years. Barners, thats 11 wins, Chizick had 5. HE couldnt beat Northern Iowa and Baylor…. went 0-8 in the big 12 and did not face the 3 best teams in the conference.

Chizick is touted as a great recruiter. he was competing with North Texas and UAB for recruits.

Chizick is a terrible coach, and it will prove out.

Iowa State wasnt a great job, but McCarney took them to a bowl every other year. Chizick couldnt even do that.

Chizick lost to Toledo, Northern Iowa, Kent St. and Blown out by Baylor…friggin Baylor…. I guess the Barn better get used to losing to Vandy then

To AllKnow

It is obvious you do not know as much as your name pretests and probably did not attend Auburn University. So, that makes you a what - a fan. It is common knowledge that the University of Alabama is the flagship school for the state of Alabama. If you do do not know what flagship is, well think of it as an opportunity to visit your local library.

These Aubs are killing me…they have such a chip on their shoulders. Listen Bama football revenues shot up over 11 million after spending 4 million on Saban. This year they will be up over another 10+ million. You do the math.

Also go back to the trailer campus…albarn and cheer on your loser Chezdik (10 straight loses) and paying off Tuberville and convince yourself that everything is going to be ok.

Have fun bowl season…your better get use to not playing in a bowl.

All I can say is….You Aubs are hysterical!! Some of the comments just prove you have no idea what is really going on.

RYAN….waht makes more sense. Paying $4 million for a HC who has a proven record and a NC under his belt or paying $2 M for a coach with a 5-19 record as a HC?? Yes he was a great DC, but so was Mike Dubose!!

Reggie…1 SEC title in 15 years is what you call great?? You should know that AU’s football history didnt start until 7 years ago!!! It ended this year after we hung 36 on your team!!

Them Barners….you gotta feel sorry for them while glad to have them around for chuckles now & then. Aubarn is the 3rd best school in Alabama…..and if reports are true that tater tot is soon to be back in coaching at UNA….well, the barn will fall to fourth in popularity. oh, make that fifth place…I forgot about Troy. It’s 2009 and aubarn still ain’t scored! 36-0!
