Georgia Tech prepares for final recruiting weekend of 2008

Georgia Tech is hoping for some early Christmas presents this weekend. Around a dozen high school prospects will take official visits with the Yellow Jackets.

The marquee names are Flowery Branch defensive end Izaan Cross and M.L. King safety Joel Kight, two players who could commit to Tech by Sunday. This is the last weekend of official visits in 2008, as recruiting will resume on Jan. 10.

Prospects invited that have already committed to Georgia Tech: linebacker Julian Burnett of Westside-Macon, Flowery Branch running back Daniel Drummond, offensive lineman Will Jackson of Farragut High in Knoxville, Tenn., defensive end J.C. Lanier of Emanuel County Institute, quarterback David Sims of Calhoun (S.C.) High and running back Orwin Smith of Central High in Phenix City, Ala.

Prospects expected to arrive on Friday that are still deciding between colleges: Cross, Kight, offensive lineman Gus Handler of Barrington (Ill.) High, offensive lineman Nolan MacMillan of The Hun School in Princeton, N.J. and running back Luke Swift of Center Grove High in Greenwood, Ind.

The recruits will spend a portion of the weekend watching the Jackets practice as they continue preparing for their Dec. 31 Chick-Fil-A Bowl appearance against LSU.

Jeff

I assume you mean the “uncommitted” marquee names this weekend…not just the marquee names.

Many of these kids could have that status…but you would definitely have to include David Sims.

David accounted fot 2500 yds passing and 1500 rushing and 63 TD’s in JUST his senior year in South Carolina. He is 6-0, 210 and runs a 4.46 forty.

He picked GTech over offers from Florida, Tennessee, Michigan, FSU, Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentcuky, etc. etc.

What about Marsalis Teague? I heard he was coming? This looks like it could be a capstone on a good recruiting year.

By the way, for anyone who knocks GT for rounding out the class with two- and three-star players, remember this. These guys will redshirt and most of them not see the field for at LEAST two years. These guys will have a lot of time to work out, learn the offense, and even focus on school. This will be a powerful combination when it comes time to put these guys on the field.

Wake has shown that if you have a whole bunch of red-shirt seniors, you can win. It doesn’t matter if they were two- or even one-stars coming out of high school.

Yech gonna land more quality trash like their all-time favorite Joey Hamilton? Nevermind the rapist from last year or the FBI busted drug Lord Houston!! LOL!!! That scumbag Hamilton got arrested for DUI, hit and run, open container and pot, LOL!!! Yech’s PROUD Heisman runner-up!!! Top quality those Yechies get. He was even in charge of player personnel, LOL!!! Oh the irony!!!

Luke Swift is skinny and has decent speed. Why not offer Henry Dixion who runs a 4.37?

I guess when we judge people like Joe Hamilton or others lest we forget we all make mistakes in life. You can call it Tech or uga or any other school we should all pray for each other to God. BE REAL.

Yo Mike,

Making a “mistake” is turning left when you meant to turn right. Calling your sister mother by accident, those are mistakes. Being a classless thug is not a “mistake,” it’s a choice, and Tech kept all his criminal activity very quiet while he played for them. Just like they have every other thug they’ve recruited since. So yes, BE REAL!!

NCJacket,

Not at all, since it’s been a LONG 7 years the last time I had to endure a loss to the trade school from downtown. Why are you angry that Hamilton is scumbag trash? Does it put a damper on every Yech fan’s bs argument, “Well at least we recruit REAL students and QUALITY kids.” LOL!!! I love exposing Yech hypocrisy. It’s too easy :)

Exposing Tech hypocrisy?? UGa has had more players arrested in the last YEAR than we have in the last 100 YRS!! If you want to talk about a hypocrite then maybe you should look at “Saint” Richt. If he is such a church-going disciplinarian then why does he keep hand picking these thugs that can’t stay out of jail? UGa is the LAST program that can take shots at other schools for their disciplinary issues.

3 UGa players are in a car together….who’s driving?

The Cops!!!

Baby Johnson,

Yes, Tech hypocrisy is right. I’ll take a kid driving on a suspended license, or doing the occasional normal drinking under age thing over a a thug that was busted for rape, busted in an FBI drug sting or a complete fraud of a role model like your “saint” Joey Hamilton. All of which Yech made excuses for and still allowed to participate. Very shameless and desperate of the Yechies, but not a surprise.
