Tucker’s Jonathan Davis has “no hard feelings” against Georgia Tech
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Tucker’s Jonathan Davis, who has committed to South Carolina. said he has “no hard feelings” against Georgia Tech.
“Georgia Tech is a great place, but it’s not the place for me …if I thought it was, I would’ve committed to Georgia Tech when I had the chance,” Davis said.
“I do want to thank Georgia Tech for everything they did for me. [Linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary] was great to me, and I really appreciate it.”
When Tech offered Davis in September, the Jackets were hoping that Davis wouldn’t need long to decide. However, Davis said when he needed more time to explore his options, Tech decided to go in another direction.
“There are no hard feelings, no sir,” Davis said. “They had to do what was in their best interests, I understood that.”
Georgia Tech’s coaches are not allowed to comment on a prospective student-athlete, per NCAA rules.
The 5-foot-7, 205-pound Davis picked the Gamecocks over Tech, Boston College, Central Florida, Oklahoma State, and Louisville. He will be given the chance to play tailback, safety or linebacker at South Carolina.

Hoping JD has a successful and healthy career in Columbia….especially against the mutts!

Hands down, best football player in the state of Georgia. Hopefully he manages to qualify and has a great career. It’s too bad he had to settle for a po-dunk, 2nd tier school, but I hope he makes the best of his opportunity.

Jonathan is a great kid and will do terrific at South Carolina.
Personally, I wish he would have pulled the trigger with GA Tech when we had the scholarship still available for him but I really respect him for taking his time and doing his due diligence as he saw fit.
Anyone who thinks Jonathan won’t be successful at the next level doesn’t know his mettle. If he puts his mind to it, he will be just as successful in the classroom as Jonathan is on the field.
Congratulations, Jonathan, to you and your family. Best of luck. South Carolina couldn’t have done any better!

Hey Joe,
I like GT, but you cannot sell out a 55k stadium whereas SC sells out every week. Who is the second tier program??

By second tier?

Good luck to you JD … SC’s gain is TECH’s loss.
So let’s see: filling up a stadium every week equates to being a top-tier program? I thought it had something to do with victories??

Hey Jon Planche,
Try reading Joe’s post again. He didn’t refer to South Carolina as a second tier “program” as you stated. He referred to South Carolina as second tier “school.” And he’s correct! What the heck do stadiums have to do with anything?

Hey Jon Planche,
This “second tier program” beat UGA. Is the game played in the stands or on the field?
JD should have chosen Tech. That blinding light you see coming from North Avenue is a very bright future.

miami doesnt sell its stadium out either and i dare say there is nary a REAL football fan that would even put the gamecocks on the same tier as miami.
selling out the stadium is not a prerequisite for fb greatness. the gamecocks are the chicago cubs of the fb world.
correct me if im wrong but doesnt sc have only ONE bowl win in its entire history and no ncs. has usce even won a championship in anything? they have a futility in winning bowls that is legendary.
sc is the home of the chicken curse and the graveyard for coaches. the old ball sack will end his career at sc much in the same way that lou holtz did…. a bottom feeder and a loser.
their is no comparison between the gamecocks and jackets size wise for that matter.
the gamecocks are the flagship program in the state. they are at least 2-3 times larger student wise than gt. And our graduates are hired world wide as opposed to workin at mcdonalds or hardees.
if sc had a football highlite video it would last 5 minutes at most. half of the 5 minutes would be credits.
sorry but the gamecrocks are not even a second tier program but a turd tier program at best along with woffard the citadel and c of c etc.
unless of course getting together as a fan base and getting drunk after each loss is something to be proud of.
i think that we jackets will gladly suffer through crowds slighly less than sell out and revel in our nc’s our bowl victories etc.
go jackets

Why should this kid have any “hard feelings” toward GT? And, why should GT care whether he does or not? GT reportedly offered him(but we don’t know for sure since they haven’t commented)and when he didn’t commit, they just moved on. I am a little skeptical as to whether that is true. I saw him play in the state semifinals…he looked like a nice player, but nowhere close to being the “best prospect in GA”. He is a little under-sized for linebacker, and not much of a running back. Alittle program like S. Carolina is probably a nice spot for him…hope he does well.

People, there is class, and then there is “class”.
Jonathan demonstrated it in his interview. Most of you haven’t in your posts…

Agree with Insider. Davis showed real class, and even grace, which is not common in our favorite sport. I wish him and SC the best of luck. Tech’s got a good recruiting class as it is. I don’t mean this in a negative way, but we don’t need him and he don’t need us. Both parties recognizing that and moving on in a positive way is a sign of maturity on both sides.

If SC is “second-tier,” why is their recruiting class ranked higher than GA, FLA, GT, et. al?

Steve:
UGA = 1 Nat Champ
UF = 2 Nat Champs (in 12 years)
GT = 4 Nat Champs (albeit two were before the Great Depression)
SC = 1 ever bowl win —> that’s why they’re a tier two program.
Teams are judged by national and conference championships, BCS rankings, Heisman winners, rivalry wins, etc. They are not judged by attendance or recruiting class.

How many of you folks criticizing Jonathan Davis’ decision actually played college football at your favorite university? The view here is that the critics are envious of his talent and opportunity.

i would tend to think that grades had a lot to do with these decisions not athletic ability

Methinks Tokyo Jacket had some bad sushi…
So, you think the reason why South Carolina is out-recruiting Georgia Tech is because we have won only one conference championship and five bowl games in our history??? Hmmm….I never thought of it that way…
Since I have the Wizard of Oz on speed dial now, can you also tell why South Carolina has a better won-loss record against Georgia over the last 30 years?

Some Tech fans on here need to take notes from Johnathan Davis. What’s with trashing S. Carolina?! Georgia Tech wishes it had the fan support that SC has. They have arguably the best, most loyal fans in the country, and impressive facilities for its lack of winning tradition. That’s part of the reason they’re able to get recruits. SCarolina isn’t on the level of Georgia Tech academically, but it’s still a pretty good school (business program is well respected).

To give South Carolina some credit, they were an independent for about 1/3 of their history including some of their best years, so the 1 conference championship bashing is a little misleading, even though it looks like at most they would’ve had 2 or 3.

Hey Joe, why do you “hope he qualifies” for little ol’ SC? I mean, if Yech recruited him then he MUST be a standout student, right? LOL!!! I love Yech hypocrisy!!! Classic!!
