Who will Georgia Tech target at RB after losing Dennis to Troy?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Luke Swift of Center Grove High in Greenwood, Ind. is a leading candidate to receive the scholarship vacated earlier this week by Carver running back Demond Dennis, who surprisingly switched from Georgia Tech to Troy.
Swift, who rushed for 1,667 yards and 20 touchdowns to help lead Center Grove to Indiana’s Class 5A state championship last month, received an in-home visit from Jackets coach Paul Johnson on Sunday Dec. 7.
And he’s scheduled to take an official visit to Tech this weekend.
Though the Jackets haven’t offered Swift, one of his teammates, quarterback Jordan Luallen, is optimistic that Tech will pull the trigger.
“Quite possibly,” Luallen wrote in a text when asked if Swift will be offered by Tech. “This weekend will be big.”
Luallen committed to the Jackets in May.
Tech has commitments from running backs Daniel Drummond of Flowery Branch and Orwin Smith of Central High in Phenix City, Ala.

Tech will suck when they run out of Gailey’s skill players. Looking at their recruiting commits, no skill players want anything to do with that O.

Brad, Dennis didn’t fulfill his academic requirements to get into Tech. He would be at Tech if not for that. Stop embarrassing yourself the way Tech’s offense embarrassed your D a few weeks ago.

Brian22 Right….here we go again with that academic requirement malarkey. Please, Stop it, it’s untrue. You beat the Dawgs for the first time in 8 yrs, now it’s time to drop this silly, nonsense about academics at GT being so “tough” for athletes.

Captain, you can choose not to believe it, but it doesn’t make it less true or you less ignorant. “It’s an Urban Myths”? Really?

Sounds like just the selfish type of player that Johnson likes to avoid. The silliest post I’ve seen was the one that said that this offense will suck when they run out of Gailey’s skill players and that no skill players want anything to do with this offense. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. This offense has worked everywhere it’s been and it’s worked with whatever players are available. And THEY WIN! This offense made a superstar out of Adrian Peterson at Ga. Southern and he’s proving that in the Pro’s he’s way below average. But he has the I-AA Championship rings to wear.

Captain, You speak like a true uninformed Bulldog! I had several football players that attended my calculus class. It’s nonsense to think that academics are not an issue at GT! They always have been an issue and always will be an issue! I’m not saying that GT doesn’t make exceptions to their admittance of athletes, they do make exceptions for football players. The bottom line is that once they are excepted, they will have to perform in the classroom. Unlike UGA which has a very liberal curriculum, GT has no sleeper courses. That’s OK, we are still going to beat your overrated arrogant arses next year and probably the year after. If Coach Johnson can recruit, the a* whopping will happen frequently! So go suck down another PBR, LOSER!

BRAD…you are an idiot. Tech would have sucked THIS year with Gailey’s skill players if Gailey was still here. Thank God and Greyhound that he is gone FOREVER.

Academics will always be an issue at GT. All athletes must take and pass two terms of calculus. At UGAg the average ball player can’t even spell calulus. “Man I don’t know how to do no calulus, dat stuff to hard”. That’s why they offer classes you can pass while sleeping in your dorm. I think they call those “Sleep Studies”. School of food science? What a freakin’ joke! “I got my fo year de-gree in Micro-wav-able dinners at Gawga, while I wuz a playin’ ball”. Three Tech grads all on the last space shuttle mission. A UGA degree couldn’t get an athlete a job sweeping the floor at NASA.

Looks like Luke really wants to come to TEch. I hope it works out for him. Sometimes, the hunger and the heart make up for a lot. I, for one, am pulling for the youngster.

Luke Swift is a great name for a football player.
This kid must have some ability and heart. He is 6’1” and only weighs 163-170 lbs.; however, he has very good results in Indiana at the AAAAA level. He had 1846 yards rushing (9.7 yard average) & 28 TD. He also had 376 yards receiving (18.8 yard average) with 6 TD. He only runs a 4.5 second forty, but we all know some people just know how to play football and do whatever it takes to make the play work. Is Luke this kind of player???
Good luck to Luke regardless of his football future!

Demond is a great kid and we should all wish him well and the best of luck at Troy, regardless of the reason he is going to continue his education and athletic career there.
Shame on all of you for your juvenile pettiness and innuendos regarding this fine young man. None of you know anything about the reason for his reason for the change in his plans, and if you did, and were honorable people, you wouldn’t be out there throwing around insults or trying to insult or demean anyone or any other University.
Demond, you go out there and do great…get your degree and play good ball. There are plenty of pro football players who have made it from Troy, but there are a heck of a lot more graduates who have great jobs! Excel in both and do your family proud.

I AM A DAWG FAN, BUT I LOVE TO SEE GT GET BETTER FOR A GOOD RIVALRY. STOP THE PRESSES SOMEBODY TELL ANY GT COACHES. THAT SOURCES SAY ON THE GRAPE VINE THAT THEIR ARE 2 THREE STAR PLAYERS WHO WOULD COMMIT TO THEM IF THEY OFFERED. ONE BEING KENDALL LAWRENCE OF ROCKWALL TEX. AND THE OTHER IN OUR BACK YARD HENRY DIXON OF EAST COWETA ( KEITH BROOKING HIGH SCHOOL OF GT ) YOU ARE STUPID NOT TO OFFER THESE PLAYERS?

Dixon has had 2 broken legs. He has not played in 2 years. Good decision by PJ. Do your homework.

This is a perfect opportunity for Tech to go after Cody Getz of Buford. I don’t care how small he is, he can flat out play ball. And he would be a perfect fit for that offense.

CPJ will turn the players he brings in into winners! His coaching is the difference. I don’t really see that with the program up the road that gets all of the blue chippers!

LOL, is there really a difference at all between Yechies and kook a$$ liberals? They both just make BS up as they go, LOL, it’s hysterical!!!
Tech uses the same NCAA minimum requirements as UGA. UGA has actually turned down more players for grades that ended up going to Tech than the other way around. Funny that lyinga$$ Yechies never mentioned that. I know it pains you toolbags to realize this REALITY, but yep chumps, it’s da truth!! HAHAHA!!!

That is the true measure of a REAL college program. Georgia hasn’t lost a recruit to a non BCS conference since they lost some athlete from decatur to UAB back in 98 or 99. The nerds are coming off of their 2nd best year in the past 40 years and they just lost a RB commit to Troy. LOL! I can guarantee you UGA will NEVER lose a recruit to Troy. Y’all already will have the worse defense in the ACC next year and when Dwyer and Jones leave the offense will suck also. Enjoy it while you can!
