Parkview RB Jacobs “surprised” that Auburn picked Chizik, not Turner Gill

Parkview’s Brandon Jacobs, an Auburn commitment, told the AJC he was surprised when the Tigers hired Gene Chizik, and said he is waiting to speak with the former Iowa State head coach and former Auburn assistant.

“It gets me thinking about what offense they will run,” Jacobs said in a text message. “But I haven’t had a chance to talk with [Chizik] and see what he’s about; he’s supposed to call this week.”

Jacobs said he was surprised that Chizik got the job over Buffalo coach Turner Gill, who became a subject of conversation after not being offered the Auburn job. Former Auburn basketball player Charles Barkley made national news when he said Gill, an African-American, did not get the job because of race.

“I mean, I thought Gill was going to be it,” Jacobs said. “But obviously [Auburn] saw something better in Chizik that could help the program.”

Jacobs committed to Auburn months ago and has maintained he’s “100 percent” committed to the Tigers. He also has received an offer from Florida.

After firing a class act, as you did, who cares anymore!

After firing a class act, as you did, who cares. Any AD impulsive enough to fire Tommy, would probably try to hire a replacement with Earl Brown’s record!

when did auburn start thinking they were good enough to fire a coach who wins 85 games in 10 years…there’s karma for crap like that and for now we can call it Gene Chizik

How can Auburn justify hiring a 5-19 coach when so many other good coaches are available?

This is easily the worst hire in SEC history.

Auburn should have taken Army’s coach, at least his record was 6-18.

Mr. Chizik will turn out just fine. Tubs lose 4 games 7 of the 10 years he was at Auburn. If may take the coach a couple of years but if he makes his players behave, he is one up on Ga. already. As a Bama die hard, I think the new coach will be a force to recon with. No AD would hire him if he thought otherwise. He started 9 freshman on offense this past year. No wonder he lost.

I went to Virginia so my team stinks and I don’t really care where this kid goes, BUT I do really get sick of these punks rationalizing their choice of school. Jacobs, You will go to Auburn for ONE reason, chance to play early. So PLEASE no lies about “I’m going to Auburn to play in big games”—Not with Alabama and LSU in the same division. AND don’t say you “Want the chance to talk to Chizik to see what he’s about”—I’ll tell you what he is about—He is not a Black guy with a Caucasian(white) wife. It’s Auburn and you will go there because you are sure of playing early there—enjoy the bonfires, but not if guys on horseback have hoods.

That’s one of the most tasteless comments I’ve heard in a very long time. It’s people like yourself that keep memories of the south’s deplorable past alive. I guess the clan is active in Atlanta too?! Lame.

You hit it on the head on the lawn. Too, because you can get a degree from Auburn with much less trouble. I know, I went to Auburn and transferred to Alabama and it’s a world of difference

Dear AFnPC, I’m just paraphrasing one of your most distinguished alums. By the way, outside of Bo, Joe Cribbs and a whole group of outstanding linemen and linebackers—-Name ONE—YES, ONE!!!!!—Distinguished Auburn alum. Garbage In The Front Door Garbage Out The Back Door. The entire Northern Hemisphere knows Auburn turned down Gill because the dude’s wife is white. And if Mr. Jacobs is Black then he would have to be as least as stupid as the Phi Beta Kappas at Ft. Lauderdale Dilliard—-Former Lauderdale resident—-who have made Auburn the replica of that famous cabin desdcribed by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Brandon, Enjoy the Plains, but hang with friends. Sir Charles nailed it!!

As a Michigan transplant, I am always amazed to see Black kids run on the field in Oxford to the strains of Dixie while the Rebel Flag serves as welcome. Do people not read, do they not care or are they like Mr.Jacobs oblivious? Don’t have to read history too far back—Just “You Tube” Charles telling it like it is.

distinguished auburn alums include former Alabama governor fob James, the second woman in space kathryn James, and the founder of wikipedia to name a few. You can visit the last one’s creation for a long list of others. Auburn also has more alumni that are fortune 500 CEO’s than any other school. So put that in your pipe…

As for the racism comments, we now have a minority president so the race card is officially banned.

Man this is revolting. With some people everything’s about race.

Turner Gill was seriouly considered and was favored by several members of the administration.

At the end of the day they decided to go with a man who had SEC expericence and was familiar with the state. Hitting the ground running on recruiting was paramount.

Maybe they passed on Gill for the same reason Syracuse did. Or maybe they wondered why Nebraska didn’t hire him when they went through their coaching change.

Maybe some of you have just decided to believe what you WANT to believe. AU is a southern school and I guess that makes them an easy target for slurs. Get a life.

People pulling the race card are way off base and obviously haven’t been to Auburn recently.

And yeah…about the distinguished alumni…check your facts before you write your trash from your tailor. Look at the fact that more company executives come out of Auburn than any other school.

I’ve been a Auburn fan since 1966 and Tubby was a damn good Coach. The AD should be run out of town on a rail and Chizih will be fired after 1st year. You couldn’t pay me to let my kid play there now.* To He!! with the War Eagles! I’m not going back. I just became a GT fan.*

Brandon would be wise to pick another school.

Don’t make assumptions until you are privy, first hand, to all the facts. Why wasn’t Gill hired at Syracuse, Nebraska or any other major university looking for a coach? Does everything have to have a racial overtone if you disagree with the decision? As to Mr. Barkley, consider the source. He will never be anyone’s choice as a public relations candidate.

hahaha wow i would love you to spend a month of your life black just to see how “fake” this whole race thing is lol now im not saying Turner Gill wasn’t hired because he was black but it was a factor. Come on i was raised in Alabama i know how it is and he had a white wife come on it was a factor. And you right Obama was half white and black but when he was attacked for having a “muslim name” and his crazy black preacher im sure his white brothers came running to his defense hahaha so i think after hundreds of years of slavery and oppresion that we can say he was the first black president

You wanna know the REAL racist in the world now? Black people and the media!! Just look at how the media covered up the murder and tourture of 2 white college kids in Tennesse (Channon Christianson) , yet we SURE heard about Imus saying “it figures” now didnt we!!
And why are whites considered racist for not wanting their daughters and sisters involved with a race that has rampant STD’s and leaves over 70% of their kids with NO fathers??

I believe the Auburn people would hire Rev. Jeramiah Wright if it meant they could beat Tide and win football games. I don’t know much about Gill or new coach but they must have seen things they did or did not like in both men THAT CONCERNED FOOTBALL. And why would the AJC or any other news outlet print another spout off by Barkley. He never does anything but COMPLAIN. Always predictable.

hahaha really? well im sure that EVERYONE has std’s no just black people. If you dont believe me go to any big college in america which all have more white students than black students. Also my step mom is white im pretty sure my dad didn’t leave her lol Also my cousin just had a baby girl guess what his girlfriend is white and he didn’t leave. So before you go own making yourself look dumb please stop. And also im pretty sure millions of black kids get killed everyday and no one reports it. The media reports what they want not by color. God your an idiot bravesfan and i never called auburn racist btw i just said they were influnced by race this is the SOUTH and people like you live here so we all know its real lol

I’m sorry, I must’ve dozed off. Is Auburn this relevant?

Other 48 states (GA, AL excluded) don’t care about Auburn.

Also- [paraphrase] “You have a black president, so the race card is officially banned…”

and

“quiet, no talk of affirmative action.. there’s a black president now..”

ONE BI-RACIAL PRESIDENT!? Wow, I guess that’ll do… I’m satisfied.

Marco Polo: Yup your right… blacks are killing other blacks in record #’s. But blacks are also killing and raping whites in alarming #’s as well.
In 2005 there were over 34,600 rapes of white women by black males. You know how many black women were raped by white men? less that 10.

Well duh! Of course 34,600 white women were raped by black men and less than 10 black women were raped by white men. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why that is. I don’t know about you, but I don’t know a single person who would want to forcibly fornicate with an ape or baboon. The caucasian women are at least desirable. ughh. I get disgusted even thinking about that. I don’t blame black guys for wanting white women.

By marco polo

what about white women getting raped by white men? like you can single out a whole race because of a section of people. If so your really missing out on meeting good people or future friends. and its not about black women not being desirable Halle berry, sinarah lathan( thats not how you spell her first name but shes an actress) both dating white men and are very beautiful. so stop thinking about color please were just setting our whole country back further and further

It’s hilarious to me that Auburn didn’t hire Gill because of race, but his own alma mater, who had the chance to hire him last year, isn’t “racist” for not hiring him as well. And the ACC, Pac-10, Big 12, WAC, MAC, Big East and holier-than-thou Big 10 aren’t racist for not having a single black coach either. LOL, I love the ignorant hypocrisy.
