Who was the No. 1 prospect in the state championship games at the Georgia Dome?

These were the nights the stars came out in Georgia.

Many of the state’s top college prospects participated in the state championship games in the Georgia Dome on Friday and Saturday.

Who, in your humble opinion, was the No. 1 senior prospect in the Dome? Which player was the No. 1 junior prospect? Please provide the player’s name, position, high school team and most importantly why you thought this player or that player was deserving. And state your best case for your nominees.

He suffered a season-ending injury in the first game of his senior year, and watched from the sidelines as his team won the state championship. But things are looking up, as big-time colleges get involved with Roberson.

1 Would be Cody Getz 1 Junior…..Storm Johnson or Daunte Carr

Cody Getz is the finest cut-back runner I have seen in a while. And, at 5’7”, 150 lbs. I like the way he delivers a blow instead of taking one. Storm Johnson is just a bigger version and just as good. I can envision Getz turning the corner, then cutting back for and scoring. Sign ‘um up CPJ.

There were 4 great prospect in the dome on Friday. All 4 kickers in each game, they were amazing. I played when that had a piece of rubber to curl the toe and kick straight on. Now a days these kids are side winding and kicking 50 yarders with room to spare (Marist Kicker) but all 4 kickers were outstanding.

Many great prospects on display this weekend. The only thing separating Florida, Texas, and California from Georgia is numbers. Quality wise, Georgia may very well be #1 in the country as far as high school players are concerned.

Now, if Cody Getz doesn’t have offers streaming in, recruiting coordinators across the country should be fired for not noticing the obvious. Forget about his height and weight. He is a football player first and a running back second. Look at guys in the NFL: Maurice Jones-Drew, Darren Sproles, Warrick Dunn(5’9”, 180lbs and has had an amazing career-10 or 12 years and still going). I might be leaving out some guys but the point is forget about his size and ask yourself this question: Would you want him on your team? The answer to that question 100% of the time is YES!!!!!!!!

Washuan Ealey. Super talent. Reminds me of Garrison Hearst. Super quality athlete. However not a super quality kid. He will fit in well with Mark Richt’s band of undiciplined sleepyheads. By the way Wesylan has ECI in a death grip right now.

Doug, I don’t know anything off the field about Waushan Ealey, but I hope your comments, albeit unnecessary to comment on him being “not a super quality kid” are based on firsthand knowledge and not what you have heard or observed from afar.

Dexter Moody looks like an athlete. All over the place. The kid played LB, DE, RB, QB, WR and Punter and played well. About the only thing he didn’t do was play in the band at halftime.

Looking forward to seeing him in the Red and Black the next few years.

The soph. running back for Wesleyan was awesome, as he matures and gets stronger will be a force. Looks like he might have the mentality (sp) to play DB as well.

Cairo High School’s running back Reginald Bryant needs to be looked at by UGA. He is a powerful runner. Bryant always makes the first tackler miss.

Ealey is very talented. He’s also one of the cockiest players I’ve ever seen.

I watched the ECI-Wesleyan game on TV, and there were at least four occasions when the refs were quite obviously telling him to get his (bleep) back in the huddle.

From what I understand, ECI’s coach claims to be a religious man. Maybe he should remind Ealey that Jesus didn’t pull out a towel that read “JC 4 Savior” when He turned water into wine.

Unfortunately I only caught two games so my opinion on who was the most impressive player in the championships is not valid. However, even though I am a South GA. football fan I was very impressed with LB Minter from Peachtree Ridge. Did he make every tackle?? Seems like it. If PR did not have him playing so well I think the game against Camden could have gotten lopsided. Coach Richt needs to camp out at this kids house or something. I know he is planning on attending LSU but signing day is not here yet.

Washuan Ealey another overrated AJC/UGA phenom…LMAO.

By gofigure

December 14, 2008 5:09 PM | Link to this

It’s obvious Ealey has an ankle injury and was not at full strength. It affected his speed and especially his ability to cut. I’ve played high school ball before with an ankle injury, and believe me it really gets you frustrated. Where is Angelo Pease going to college? Talk about a winner who refuses to lose, he’s the guy!

Senior - Angelo Pease - Cairo - not only passed for the winning TD, but his interception on defense sealed the win. Big enough, and fast, should be effective in any offense and his stock should go up after last weekend. Could play other skill positions besides qb.

Any college coach who saw Cody Getz head butt that player and run in for the touchdown has got to see that size DOES NOT matter with a player like that.

Best Senior: Jonathan Davis, Tucker(that’s a no-brainer). Best Junior: Duvon Milsap, Offensive Guard, Buford. Best Sophomore: Kyle Karempelis, RB, Wesleyan(he might not be the best prospect but I’d say he had the best championship game of any sophomore).
