UGA-bound QB Aaron Murray overcomes injury to lead team to state championship game

You’ve got to like the style of UGA-bound quarterback Aaron Murray.

On his first pass in his first high school game in more than two months, Murray threw a touchdown.

Hollywood couldn’t have written a better script.

Murray, who is recovering from a broken leg suffered on Oct. 16, completed 12 of 26 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns in Plant High’s 33-21 win over Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer in the state semifinals, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Murray will lead his team against Tallahasee Lincoln for the state championship on Dec. 20 at Orlando’s Citrus Bowl.

Murray, who picked UGA over 53 scholarship offers, returned a month earlier than expected after surgery on his left leg to play against Dwyer. His ankle was heavily wrapped, and Murray limped at times. But he took every snap, according to the newspaper.

“A courageous performance,” Plant coach Robert Weiner told the Tribune. “Here’s a kid who had a sliver of hope after he was hurt in the Hillsborough game eight weeks ago, just one little sliver of hope to play, and yet he did everything in his power to get back for his team and his teammates.”

“That just says something good about the young man. He loves his team, he loves his teammates, and he just wanted to contribute in some way. And he sure did tonight. What a performance.”

After the game, Murray was hugged and congratulated by his coach, teammates and Plant supporters. He clearly was emotionally spent after the gutsy performance.

“I never would have dreamt that I would ever be back in a Plant uniform again,” Murray said. “But to come back and play in this game, and now play in the state championship game, is something very special and I’ll never forget.”

I love the courageous spirit of young Murray, but I hope he doesn’t do permanent harm to himself to prove a point.

This guy is going to be da bomb. I can’t wait for this guy to get on campus he is going to be incredible. I bet he will be the greatest QB in history. He has all the intangibles to be a fantastic QB think Tebow and Stafford combined X10 thats how good he will be.

WOW! Is Murray comming to UGA in Jan? I hope so beacuse if Stafford goes pro then Murray would be able to compete for the job with Cox & Gary. If Stafford stays then Gary might can be moved to WR or DB then Murrary would take over in 2010. Either way I’m looking forward to seeing Murrary in Red & Black!

Murray may redshirt if they feel his leg is not 100% by May or June. The crazy thing is that the coaches are even more exited about the QB from Oconne Co.. He may be ahead of Murray as far as understanding the game. Extremly bright kid.

I think both Mettenberg and Murray have the potential to be great. The problem is knowing Richt he will go with the swapping qbs again which will never win a national championship. Personally, i like Murray better. I live in Florida and when i tell you every school down here recruited him. His state championship game will be televised down here and i cant wait to see him in action.

Did the backup QB that actually got them there to the semi finals play? If the kid got them there, why bench him now? Just asking for clarification, as I wasn’t at the game, or live in the area?
