Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh makes appearance at Flowery Branch

Flowery Branch junior quarterback Connor Shaw received quite a surprise earlier today when Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh showed up at his school with a scholarship offer.

Shaw is the son Flowery Branch coach Lee Shaw and brother of Georgia Tech quarterback Jaybo Shaw.

“I didn’t know he was coming,” Connor Shaw said. “I was called to my dad’s office and coach Harbaugh shook my hand and gave me an offer as a quarterback.

“It was kind of strange because they weren’t really recruiting me. But he showed up.”

Shaw, whose other offer is from Georgia Tech, will lead the Falcons against Cairo in Saturday’s Class AAA state championship game. He and several of his teammates have captured the attention of college coaches with their stellar postseason play.

“I’m sure,” he said. “I think that’s helping all of our guys right now.”

As for Stanford, Shaw’s interest in the Cardinal program has suddenly grown.

“My interest in Stanford went from average to high,” he said.

Shaw is also being recruited by Central Florida and Clemson.

Connor is definitely better than is older brother Jaybo. I have seen both play. Unlike Jaybo, Connor reads the defense better when pitching the ball while running the option. If he commits to Tech, he will definitely be higher than Jaybo on the depth chart.

I’m pretty sure this is illegal per NCAA recruiting rules. Connor, RUN for the hills, run fast and don’t drink the Harbaugh kool-aide. Check with one or all of the several metro Atlanta 2009 recruits that Stanford offered. At least two decommitted after being asked to. This year they offered almost 200 for 18 or so spots. Then they control who actually gets to go by sitting on or delaying giving you an application until it’s too late and you’ve lost other scholarship opportunites. Do some research Coach Shaw!!!

T-Bone…….Did you say Paul Johnson is building a powerhouse? You should use the screen name BONEHEAD, thats what you would have to be to believe that GT is going to ba a powerhouse. As with all of GT’s new coaching changes there will be excitement then as history shows GT falls flat then all the fans crawl back off the bandwagon to wait for a firing. All the defenses that Tech played this year will be ready next year. The novelty will wear off and Tech will be in the cellar once again. Conner, please go elsewhere or you will be the next Reggie Ball.

Let’s see. Paul Johnson practically goes undefeated for four years at Georgia Southern. Then, he goes to the US Naval Academy, a program that was 0-11 prior to his arrival (1-21 in the 2 previous seasons) and he begins immediately violating teams and starts what will end in Charlie Weis crawling out of South Bend with no dignity.

Now, Paul Johnson is going to struggle recruiting to Atlanta, GA in one of America’s greatest football hotbeds. Powerhouse? you are drinking cool-aid.
