The “Knowshon and Washaun” Show at UGA next year?

It seems everybody has an opinion on Emanuel County Institute tailback Washaun Ealey.

The fact is that Ealey, who has committed to Georgia, is one of the most accomplished high school players the state has seen. He has rushed for nearly 8,000 career yards, and broken state records for career and single-season touchdowns.

But there are many opinions about Ealey’s future in football after Saturday.

What to like about Ealey: He rushed for 126 yards on 25 carries in the semifinals last week, and at least half of his yards came from “falling forward.” He’s a competitor: Even though he is nursing back and ankle injuries and playing at “80 percent,” Ealey made clutch runs in the winning drive against Wilkinson County. Nothing spectacular during the drive, but he got it done.

Where the improvement will come: Ealey’s main criticism on message boards is that he is stacking up the numbers against competition at the Class A level. But Herschel Walker and Garrison Hearst heard the same things. Is there any validity to that with Ealey? It was hard to tell last week. Ealey did look average, but he is banged up, probably a lot more than he or his coaches are revealing. And Wilkinson County had one of the state’s fastest defenses, regardless of classification.

There is one clear concern about Ealey. When ECI was making its rally in the second half last week, the players were cheering on and encouraging each other. Ealey stood by himself, nearly 30 yards away from his teammates on the sidelines, in silence. Perhaps on this night, Ealey was just frustrated by his injuries and had hoped to help his team more.

Of course, like any kid in his position, I wish him all the best of luck. With that being said, if he does have an attitude problem, then he can take a number, because we have an abundance of talent at tailback. I believe we already have our great back in Caleb King or Richard Samuel. But, more talent the better.

Georgia has had either a top five or top ten recruiting class for the past five or six years. I don’t put a lot of faith in these 4 and 5 star ratings anymore. How many SEC titles have we won over this same time frame? I prefer to wait and see what the kid can do when he is tested against the best of his peers. I also think that his or her character plays a big part in how well they do in college.

Maybe he’ll change his mind and go to Tech. Afterall, he’ll only have to learn 3 plays: option left, option right and fullback dive. With those 3 plays, Tech will beat Georgia for the next 10 years. Unless, of course, we get a real defensive coordinator…

The idea that A ball is inferior is off the mark. To the extent that defenses are inferior to AAAAA so is his O-line. Remember G. Hearst and H. Walker played A ball.

I am tired of hearing about him piling up number against inferior defenses. He has proven himself against all the schools that ECI had to play to win last years state championship and are in the championship game agian this year. He has piled up numbers on superior teams ( Clinch twice, Seminole, Warren Co. Wilcox. Dooly, Savannah Christian, Bremen, and Johnson Co. All have been top 10 teams these past 2 years. There were many games he never played in the second half. He could own so many more records. I have enjoyed watching him these past few years and hope to see him excel at Georgia also.

Tom,

We have won 2 SEC championships in the past 7 years. We had not won any the previous 19 years. I guess maybe those 4 and 5 star recruits are doing okay, huh?

I personally think that maybe the problem lies either with the staff (not coaching them up enough), the atmosphere in Athens (drinking and partying are accepted), or individual players attitudes). If Washaun is a head case he probably won’t do that well. Hopefully he was mad about nagging injuries.

Well, as cool as this sounds and all… Do we really need more talent at halfback? I mean seriously, we’ve got (possibly) Knowshon Moreno next year, Caleb King, Richard Samuel, and now this guy? How about we try to recruit some talent at… hmm… Defensive Coordinator? That sounds more like a GamePlan to me. However, seeing as we won’t recruit some talent there, I would say focus on getting some serious defensive talent. We had a lot this year, and the defense still got whooped… So get even more talent, I guess. I just don’t see how Willie Martinez can’t make something happen with the talent we have. I bet my High School’s JV coach could do better.

Cinci, please learn how to post.

Generally, teams recruit for all positions, every year; but concentrate on certain positions some years. Sometimes it gets a little whack, as when we had a shortage at o-line.

Washaun should be a great pick. And, as dawg1212 stated, he hardly ever played for the entire game; usually just one half or so. And he still put up great numbers. Playing in class A should have no bearing; many players in the NFL come from Div II and III schools. Rivals.com and Scout.com rank him highly, without regard to school classification.

Goooo Dawgs! Beat Mich State!

I seen Washaun play twice this year and both games he got an unsportsmanlike penalty against him. But the Bulldogs need some attitude up there, just unfortunate it’s not on defense. I hadn’t seen attitude with our defense since we beat the best of the WAC

The arguement about inferior defenses, you could make the same case about his O-line. Like the old arguement about Barry Sanders, if he would have played behind the Cowboy’s O-Line.

Why get on this forum and SPECULATE about a kid’s attitude because he doesn’t stand with his cheering teammates in one game? Why SPECULATE about his grades because he is 19? Maybe he has a poor attitude and bad grades, maybe not. Unless you coach or teach this kid you don’t really know. Just wait and let it play out over time and then talk about the facts.

Definaatly don’t go to SEC school, tickets are too hard to get and they are expensive. Also the TV ratings are through the roof and that makes it too crowded in the sports bars when your family and friends go to watch you on TV. Go to ACC school, plenty of cheap tix and noonne watching on TV, perfect.

To use them both at he same time you have to change the offense to give them good opportunities. Mareno was the only back to do well. Our two receivers gave us two other options. The three options we had were similar to the four running options that tech had. They had basically one more option than we had. Defenses know we are going to block with the FBs and run with the TBs. To use both means a change in the offense.

Dear Steve McQueen, Season ticket holder and I would say a “good” but not “great’ donor. I’m usually objective—to a fault—and I would much prefer 2 SEC Championships in the last 3 years, one National Championship and now playing for another one. We must remember that 3 of the last 7 years Florida had a CERTIFIABLE idiot as head coach(and even the ZOOKSTER beat us 2 out of 3 times) so I don’t give a lot of credence to anything we attained while our main rival had a moron as coach. We all better really hope that Meyer gets bored with winning SEC Championships like the other guy did or it wiil soon be 40 years since our last National Championship. Let’s hope Tebow gets a great report from NFL Advisory Board or we are blanked for next year.

67 Dog nailed it. I’m posting this and then I’m going cold turkey on the recruiting boards until Signing Day. On that memorable moment I will come back and look, BUT until then I will not be FOOLED again. Doesn’t matter at all how the recruiting gurus say you did if it is obvious that your number 1 competition to achieve even your minimal goal(SEC East) is distancing itself from you in national stature, perception and achievement. The dude was really on the money when he said Meyer better soon get the itch or these next few years will be Goff and Donnan REVISITED!

I am worried as well about our nemesis, Florida. Look at how much they improved on defense with a relatively young group. The Dawgs on the other hand, regressed to the point of embarassment.Recruiting class rankings don’t mean jack if you can’t coach ‘em up in a tough SEC.

This was supposed to be our year, so what does that say about next year with the same coaches and Moreno/Stafford possibly gone??

I probably will go camping and wait to read the headline, ‘Gators thrash the Dawgs once again” on Monday. O.K., O.K., I’ll keep trying to be positive…

I think this guy is going to be a stud! He is a scary mix of speed and power in a low to the ground body which makes it hard for defenders to tackle him. He will red shirt in year one to get stronger, but when he comes out as a sophomore he will be very explosive. Dont sleep on Dontavious Jackson, and Richard Samuel. We are ok at the back position it’s the defense that concerns me especially since we seem to not be making any changes.I hope we can get the corner from Booker T or Jarvis from Carver. We also need to invest in some good lineman.

I would LOVE to see MARLON BROWN, JJONES, and EALEY come to UGA but what for? Is Willie Martinez still gonna be DC and if so, WHY? UGA’s defense gave up 30 pts per game this past season and showed NO EMOTION and Martinez is not held responsible? the “inferior competition” comment reminds me of the comment made by a boxer who was criticized for quick knockouts against boxers who were panned as unworthy opponents preceding the fights: “isn’t that what you’re supposed to do to chumps?” if the competition going up against ealey appears “inferior,” could it be that he is a key reason why they seem so? remember, when herschel walker was running for 200+ yards at uga, his competition looked pretty damn “inferior.” let’s see what happens on saturdays.

Have seen him on the football field and BBall court (point guard for ECI last yr). On the court he was a jerk who yelled at teammates constantly, was T-ed up by the official at least once and removed by his coach for his attitude on another occasion. When the coach’s back was turned he kicked a chair into the front row of the bleachers. Hopefully this bad attitude was just mistaken for “heart”. I doubt he will qualify/stay in school long, but still wish him the best of luck. He does have the talent. Maybe Athens will be the break he needs.

31-0 at the half?!!

Ealey is a great HS back - time will tell if he will be an SEC caliber RB.

But folks - it just does not matter!!

The GATORS have not just passed UGA - they are light years ahead.

Consider this:

2001: Richt’s first year - lost to Spurrier - a 10-2 Gator team.

2002: Richt went 13-1 his second year - his best chance to date to play for a NT. BUT LOST to ZOOK’s 8-5 Gator lesser talent team.

2003: Richt goes 11-3 - BUT LOST to ZOOK’s 8-5 Gator lesser talented team.

2004: Richt goes 10-2 - BEATS ZOOK’s last team by 7 points - 7-5 Gators.

2005: Richt is 10-3 LOST to Meyer’s first team with Zooks talent.

2006: Richt goes 9 - 4, Staffords first year Lost to Meyer yet again GATORS win NT with a 13-1 season.

2007: Richt goes 11-2 - Sound VICTORY Meyer vows he will not forget the celebration dance.

Has UGA finally put themselves on even footing with Gators …….. the answer is NO!!!!

2008: Richt’s preseason number 1 team - gets the second worst beat down in this long series in a game now remembered as the GATOR STOMP 2008. Meyer is playing in the National Title game again.

IN his fourth year of coaching Florida - Urban Meyer has won 2 sec Titles and will probably win his 2nd National Title.

UGA is not even near the level that FLORIDA IS …. now here is the kicker - the Gators are even a yonger team than UGA!! AND TEBOW WILL BE BACK

Look at it this way - Richt had a 4 year head start to build his program and Urban has Blown him away with a 3-1 Record, 2 SEC TITLES, and a chance for his 2nd National TITLE.

Urban is for real and is in position to dominate the SEC like the BEAR did.

As far as the SEC EAST - UGA is competing for for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place.

Look for Kiffin to bring Tennessee back to snuff and probably pass UGA after this upcoming season - VOLS have won 3 out of the last 5 games against UGA. Last years win and the year before were absolute blow outs.

Which leaves UGA battling the GCOCKS for SEC East 3rd - just like the DONNAN / GOFF years!!!

RRROOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TIDE!!!

Ealey will be a star next year. I saw him play thee times. He is that good. Samuel has no vision and never will. Caleb King went into an autistic shutdown last year. It will be years before he shows his stuff. I have heard nothing about an attitude issue with Ealey but who knows. We will need him because the coaching is so bad now that talent has to be our savior. Richt has drawn a line between his coaches and the Georgia fateful. Big mistake Mark. Blaming the players for not playing together this year was a cop out. Players play to the level of the coaches ability. I am sick of seeing UGA play down to level of there opponents and play 2 quarters and quit or quit and play 2 quarters. Get some real coaches or go to Syracuse.

One thing you have to realize, is that us Tech fans just assume because someone has committed to Georgia he is a thug. The same player could committ to Tech and would sing his praises. But because he has chosen our rival, we can’t seem to grasp the concept that some people might like things that we don’t, so we have to make things up about him and claim we actually know him. We actually don’t have any knowledge of any players actual character, but that’s not important. What is important is that it is true in our little make believe world. We will also make posts showing the UGA players who have been arrested and immediately assume that all their players are like while failing to see we have several who have also been in trouble. If it fits our argument, that’s the only part we are going to show. Objectivity is not our strong suit, but hypocrisy is.

To the people that question Washaun Ealey’s attitute, I will tell you this. I have watched every high school game he has played and you don’t know what you are talking about. What I have seen is the consumate team player. There have been many times when he has taken the team on his back and taken them to victory. There is NOBODY that wants his team to win more than Ealey. As for him playing in a lower classification, he is the best back in the state, period! He has set these records while sitting out the second half many, many times.

I hope this guy gets on the horn and helps recruit offensive linemen to enroll with him. Same with Dexter Moody calling all potential defensive recruits.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS - OFFENSE CLOSES THE DOOR ON IT. If Richt thinks our defense is ok then take a look at this. 1. Dogs finish 5th/6 in SEC games in scoring Defense in the east division
2. Dogs finish 9th/12 in SEC games in Scoring defense. 3. Dogs finish 10th in SEC scoring defense all games played. I say we need a new DC.

There is Bama Stan… Where have you been hiding??? This 31-0 halftime score disappeared into an 11 point victory for Bama. The same point differential that Florida had on you when you choked away the SEC and NC in the 2nd half, just like you have done all year. What a waste of a season and a lot of smack talk for nothing buddy. Have fun against Utah….

Ealey is going to be good. This is a kid who rushed for 7 td’s on 13 carries in one half…

Ealey sounds like our next big bust.

Future tailbacks will be Richard Samuel, Dontavious Jackson, and Carlton Thomas. Maybe Samuel can learn how to hang on to the ball. In another year, he might be close to 230.

Ealey seems like an ego-maniac punk and Caleb King hasn’t been the same since he broke his leg and will most certainly get arrested by the Athens PD after he runs his mouth to them for getting pulled over on his moped going the wrong way.

I don’t understand why UGA is not playing agressive ball? Why do they show up for just a half a game and then back off only to let the opposing team go ahead and take the win? Why do they want to play touch football instead of FULL ON TACKLE football? I’ll grab you with my arm and stop you - NEWS FLASH- IT DOESN’T WORK! Why do you have all these running backs and only play one at the time. I’m not a coach but it seems to me if you’re loaded for bear in the RB department, why not put at least two of them in the mix at one time. Wouldn’t this confuse the defense as to which back may possibly get the ball or if you’re going to pass it?
I don’t know if the problem is with Martinez or not. He can’t make the players execute. I love Richt but sometimes I think he is too laid back. I don’t want him to turn into Saban who wouldn’t crack a smile if Bama was up 100 to zip in the first quarter, but I would like to see a little more emotion. If a player needs his butt chewed out, do it right then. UGA needs heart and they’ve been lacking it lately! Hence the Bama, Gator, Tech fiascos! They beat themselves in each of these games!

Wow! 5 ypc by a RB on a stacked team in class A ball. He must be the second coming of Herschel.

and Knowshon is as good as gone. He’s a Jersey guy who doesn’t care about UGA; it’s all about ‘da money!!!
