UGA-bound Washaun Ealey not the best prospect on ECI, says one coach
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Savannah Christian coach Donald Chumley played on Georgia’s 1982 SEC championship team, so he’s eager to see Washaun Ealey and Dexter Moody of Emanuel County Institute suit up for the Bulldogs next season. The teammates committed to Georgia in January.
But unlike most observers, Chumley believes Moody, a linebacker, has more potential on the college level than Ealey, the running back who has rushed for nearly 8,000 yards and set Georgia’s record for career and single-season touchdowns.
“Just because he’s such an athlete,” Chumley said of Moody. “I could see him playing a lot of different positions, especially when they put more muscle on him. He could play linebacker, tight end, defensive end. He’s the best pure athlete we’ve seen this year. He makes an impact on both sides of the ball more than anybody I’ve seen.”
Savannah Christian finished second in Region 3-A to ECI and lost to ECI 21-14 in September. Chumley’s praise of Moody doesn’t mean he believes Ealey is overrated.
“He’s everything advertised,” Chumley said. “I don’t know if he’s another (Knowshon) Moreno, but I think he’s going to be in the mix at running back. He’s strong, very hard to bring down. He has all the things you can’t teach - the moves, the vision. He’s a complete player.”
ECI plays Wilkinson County tonight in the Class A semifinals. ECI has another Division 1-A recruit on the team in lineman J.C. Lanier, who has pledge to Georgia Tech. But Chumley says keep an eye on the linebacker.
“Moody might not get as much press, but I’m here to tell you he’s the real deal,” Chumley said.

Moody is a better prospect because Ealy plays running back and runs a 4.8…that won’t cut it in the SEC, it does in Class A.

Hey “Dawg o’roid(so- called Florida fan), not a serious university? At least we don’t have football players smoking dope and still playing or shooting AK-47s at apartments AND still playing OR stealing cars from impound lots AND STILL PLAYING(oh that’s right y’all did punish him- you took away his team captain title). And as far as Tech goes, remember Joe H. Didn’t go to 1 class his entire Senior year, but still played every game. Then later, hired as a coach , hit-and-run DUI that night (ON CAMPUS), fine example. The reality is that every school has kids that do stupid things, some worse than others, all of them are wrong no matter what school they go to. Quit putting your school above others, all have their good and their bad.

Oh and don’t forget, Gator’s back up QB stole a classmate’s laptop, put his name on it in marker and when the cops came to his dorm room after tracing emails and saw the laptop, when they returned he had thrown it out the window. Your pot can’t call our kettle black.

If the coaches at GA had graduated from Tech maybe they would be smart enough to make changes during a game. I am gald the coaching staff will stay intact. Paul Johnson is a football coach and Mark Ritch is a baby sitter and has a soft team with no heart.

All of the people that are on here making idiotic comments are insecure and they have their own issues in their lives that they don’t know how to deal with. This foolishness is uncalled for. To techster, if such is true about coach Richt, what does it say about a GT program that has one ONE GAME vs a Mark Richt led UGA team since he become head coach in 2001?

I don’t know what Ealey’s time in the 40 is but I do know two things: 1) Ealey would be welcomed by ANY school’s football team in the south. He ended any recruiting speculation much sooner than most by announcing he would be a Dawg in Jan. ‘08 2) CMR may not be the next Don Shula as an X’s and O’s coach but he can damn well identify talent.

Arob- if you “really” followed recruiting, then you would know that Tech has offered 68 of the 71 players that UGA has offered. You make yourself seem ignorant with idiotic posts like that. That’s typical though. The 3 that they didn’t are from California, Maryland, and Arizona.

Martinez will play him at one position, then the offensive line coach will grab him and play him at another postion, then he will be moved again so no player learns a position and you end up getting your butt kicked again. Welcome to Ga football. Mass confusion but with a lot of love……. Kiss Kiss

Enroll those two ECI recruits in the UGA school of food science so they can major in eating. Maybe a minor in livestock management to go along with it. I am glad that J.C. Lainer is coming to Tech to become another Daryl Richards. He’ll enjoy playing for CPJ and get a real education.

College Football fans; Why not wait to see who actually enrolls, makes the team and plays on the college level before proclaiming recruiting superiority. Both the Dawgs and the Jackets are going to be challenged mightily to keep in-state prospects from going to the Gators, Noles, Tide, Tigers/War Eagles/Plainsmen, Vols, Cocks, Clemson etc..Dawgs and Jackets need to keep and share in-staters.

I’m back. So sorry if I upset the dumb GA alumni with comments about their school. I just think a degree from Tech will get you places a degree from GA will not, i.e outer space. There is a reason GA cannot make changes on the fly during a football game - the coaches and players are not smart enough. Just how many dumb penalties can one team make!!!!!! I don’t take back the statement about them being heartless and to scared to tackle. How many drunks on the team?
