Did Tennessee’s Kiffin break NCAA recruiting rules?

Lane Kiffin has already discovered one thing that comes with the job of being Tennessee’s coach: needling from Steve Spurrier.
The South Carolina coach, who had a history of taking verbal jabs at Kiffin’s predecessor, Phillip Fulmer, questioned whether Kiffin broke NCAA recruiting rules by contacting Tennessee recruits before he was cleared to do so.
Jarvis Giles, a running back recruit from Gaither High School in Tampa, Fla., told several media outlets that Kiffin contacted him early Sunday morning - a day before he was scheduled to be introduced as the Vols’ new coach.
Spurrier noted that he didn’t retake the recruiting test until after he was introduced as the Gamecocks’ new coach and joked that Kiffin might have called Giles as “an interested observer.”
Kiffin, who announced Monday he had hired South Carolina’s former quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator David Reaves, his brother-in-law, to help with recruiting, must have heard what Spurrier had to say.
“As far as recruiting, we’ve hit the ground running. I took the test a few days before I got hired here so that we could do that,” he said Monday

The HBC is alwys good for a laugh.
Kiffin and Dabo Swinney are going to make his life more difficult; glad he is getting his laughs in while he can.

I’m afraid you’re right big orange. I’m not sold on Kiffen’s ability to outcoach Spurrier but he will make it a lot harder for him in recruiting. Tennessee used to get a lot of the good players out of North and South Carolina, so if Butch Davis and Kiffen start divying them up again, it could be hard times for the OBC.

So we find out the cheating at UT is institutional not confined to Fulmer & Pearl. I guess that was confirmed when they hired Pearl. Spurrier heard of a potential violation then went on the offensive since the deal Fulmer had with the NCAA does not apply anymore. The NCAA may be lax in enforcement right now but it’ll be hard to ignore if the violations are pointed out publicly. That’ll force Kiffin & his staff to stay within the rules. SC & TN both have to recruit regionally & nationally so Spurrier is not going to let TN get an unfair advantage on them. His history with UT probably has something to do with this as well…he shunned them back in the day & even though he’s from TN he hates UT. Anybody know the back story on why he hates UT so much?

Does UGA not face the NCAA Death Penalty if they are caught cheating one more time?

Hey Poodles,
Go back behind your mothers skirt, smoke some more wacky backy, and send some more notes out from your parents basement. I guess next thing is they will make you part of the cheerleading squad for your Alma Mater, KinderCare

Spurrier has to be the center of attention. Local Carolina fans said he had to do something to draw the attention away from Clemson beating them so bad on Saturday. Look how he has always bashed UGA coaches. I live in SC and a LOT of Carolina fans don’t like him.

Why does Steve Spurrier hate Tennessee? He wanted to play ball for Tennessee but all we could offer him coming out of high school was a back up role. So he went on to Florida won the Heisman and the rest is history. Bone headed move on our part I guess, but oh well. If it makes the HBC fell any better a lot of Tennessee fans wanted you as the next coach. But given the chance you remind all of us who bleed orange how much we all really despise you. P** Off Spurrier!

anyone who takes as much time to knock something as SOS does the Vols, is really a closet fan. I think that SOS would be the new FB coach at Tenn if all this had happened 4-5 years ago. With his coaching ability and the tradition at UT- well that would have been hard to beat. At SC , SOS will never be more than average.

lOOKS TO ME LIKE WE DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT WITH THAT NEW TENNESSEEEE COACH. WITH A 5-15 RECORD IN THE NFL SHOWS HE CAN’T WIN GAMES. WHO IN THE FIRST PLACE WOULD HIRE A GUY WITH A LOSING RECORD TO BE THE CEO OF A MAJOR(?) SEC SCHOOL? AND WHO SAYS HE CAN RECRUIT? DOES HE HAVE A RECORD OF RECRUITING IN THE SOUTHEAST? ANYWAY, RECRUITING ISN’T THE ONLY FACET OF OF SEC FOOTBALL - YOU HAVE TO WIN FROM THE GIT-GO. I’LL GIVE HIM 3 YEARS AND ADIOS AMIGO. SEE YA. IN MY OPINION, UT REALLY BLEW THIS HIRE. BUT, IN ANOTHER LIGHT, THAT’S ALL GOOD FOR THE OTHER SEC TEAMS. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT PLAYING TENNESSEE IN THE NEXT ? YEARS THAT KIFFIN IS THEIR COACH. GO GET-UM OTHER SEC TEAMS.

I’m glad Mr Stevie is at SC. I’d rather he be Tulsa. Nothing against Tulsa, it’s just further away from UT. Maybe we would hear less from that classless pi** ant with his telescope aimed at Knonville all the time.
