MIlton RB excited about Tennessee’s coach, but still looking around
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Milton running back Toney Williams looks at new Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin and thinks two words: LenDale White. Well, that one other thing.
“I’m fired up,” said Williams, who opened up his recruitment following the firing of former UT coach Phillip Fulmer. “He said everything I wanted to hear at that (opening) press conference. He said we’re going work hard, and we’re going outwork other people. Stuff like that makes me comfortable being there. You work hard, and good things will happen.”
Williams — who has been considering visits to Kentucky and Arkansas — is rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com and was the fourth commitment of the Vols 2009 class. The firing of Fulmer and doubt about the job security of assistant coach Latrell Scott led the bruising senior runner to look around.
Schools like Georgia Tech were just waiting on the doorstep, but Williams for the most part said told area teams that he’s not interested. He was just waiting to see what developed in Knoxville. So far so good for the new administration.
“I’m still undecided about my official visits, but after that press conference, I’m really excited about Tennessee,” Williams said. “I’ve always liked the whole program. The whole environment is amazing, just how much people actually care in Knoxville.”
Williams is a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150. He’ll be taking his official visit to Tennessee on Dec. 12.
He was considering a visit to Kentucky this weekend but has remained undecided. There’s a good reason, too. With Kiffin comes images of Southern Cal’s potent offense that included great tailbacks like Reggie Bush and White, whom Williams said he could model his game after in Kiffin’s new system.
Kiffin’s decision to retain Scott could make a small different in what Williams chooses to do, but it won’t end his attachment to the Vols.
“I would love to have him around but even if they let him go, I still really, really like Tennessee,” Williams said. “But him being there would make me more comfortable. I just like him a lot as a person. I really do want him around.”

I would think that a top running back might want to look at the Tech offense, considering what it did this year — and its only going to get better.

Dear Toney(aka Moron), What did you expect him to say at first press conference?? It would have been nice if Kiffin would have spoken the truth—“Hey, I know the only reason I got this job is because I brought my old man along. We realize it will remain difficult to recruit in a racist backwater populated by crackers resembling a remake of Deliverance. However, with our well documented penchant for avoiding NCAA probes we expect to be able to continue to offer inducements that will persuade Black kids to cross the country to play in the midst of redneck bars and honkytonks. If you come to Knoxville you can expect to play in front of 107,000 members of the McCoy Family. People have long thought those were Tennessee season ticket holders, when in reality it has been the weekly McCoy Family Reunion. Don’t forget we can offer you a program in our Stimulating Social Work Department or as it is known on campus—Program For Athletes. I’ll be looking to forward to seeing all you fine scholar(ROTFLMAO) athletes on the recruiting trail”.

My guess is that Carbohydrates For Phil is a bitter inbred redneck from Georgia who is upset that his fleabags’ dream season was just that….a dream. Get over it and get a life. Now go find your sister, I’m sure she needs a kiss.

GT has not even offered a scholly to Toney.
He is big and strong, but he runs a 4.6 40 yard dash; a little too slow for GT and the ACC. He should fit in well in the SEC though. He will be very successful against the 8 weaker sisters in the SEC and do very well in the out of conference games since the SEC trys to schedule teams which they are confident they can beat.
Good luck at Tennessee with a coach who has a very questionable track record. He was the Co-offensive coordinator at USC where they have much better talent than EVERY team they played. Nice guy, but can he assemble a solid staff and handle the decisions required by the Head Coach?? We will know in 2-3 years.

Call It Like I See It, Actually I went to Penn—HORRIBLE football team, but compensation in other areas—but I love college football. Am always amused by the pronouncements of high school Phi Beta Kappas during the recruiting process. Love it when a kid chooses Tennessee or South Carolina over Vandy and he is quoted as saying “Academics played a big part in my decision” or when a kid selects Florida State over Florida or Georgia and he says “I love Coach Bowden and I want to play for National Championships”. I’m telling you—this is one amusing site. Saturday Night Live should do a parody of it. Just once I’d like to hear an honest “Well, I know I have no chance to play at Florida, Alabama, or Southern Cal so I better go to Michigan State. Know there not going anywhere but I’ll see the field”. Now that wouldn’t be a novel response?

Tech fans:
I know a teacher that had Toney as a student last year - she felt that he would not have made it academically at Tech. Therefore, Tennessee.
