New Tennessee coach to meet Georgia prospects on Thursday

New Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin plans to be in Georgia on Thursday to meet with two of the state’s top prospects, according to Centennial coach Jeff Measor.

Kifffin is scheduled to talk with Centennial defensive end Euclid Cummings, who is one of the state’s top uncommitted players and hearing from Georgia Tech and Florida. Kiffin will also greet Milton fullback Toney Williams, who is committed to Tennessee but was looking around at other schools after the departure of Phil Fulmer.

A chief purpose of the visit is to reassure both players that the Volunteers’ program is stable under new leadership.

“He’s going to see Toney to reassure him, then come get to know Euclid,” Measor said. “It’s a chance for Euclid to get out of class for a sec, meet [Kiffin] for a few minutes, match a face to the name and whatnot. They’ll tell him they like him a lot, are still interested in him a lot, etc.”

Kiffin, a former coach of the Oakland Raiders and assistant at Southern California, is making rounds during the open contact period with high school players, which began this week. Measor said the Vols’ 21st head coach is coming with assistant coach Latrell Scott, Tennessee’s primary recruiter in Georgia.

this is in! Top Safety Propect in Ga., Darren Myles Jr. has dropped UGA from his list. Myles Jr. reason was simple, “they did not make me a top priority” “they did not come see me and they do not stay in-contact as they did before”

relax, teddy. rashad jones was also the top safety prospect in Georgia.

what good is top tier defensive talent if we have no defensive coordinator with any ability?

CMR is now clearly a second-tier coach in the SEC— behind Saban, Meyer, Spurrier, and now Kippin.

Heck, even Houston Nutt has gotten more out of his talent that CMR this year.

Same defensive staff as 07, #2 team in the Nation at the END, when it counts.

Again, I’ll ask this about real UGA fans, what good does it do to come on this blog and trash UGA Coaches?

cmr is a top tier coach. top ten finishes 6 out of his 8 years proves just that. but i don’t think it is uncalled for for some of us dawg fans to question what was going on with the defense this year. the numbers don’t lie, and the numbers showed the dawgs to be pretty soft on d this year. something, whether it be coaches, personel, or strategy, must change….

here’s hoping cmr rights the ship, bc it looks like we have another tuff game added to our schedule for the foreseeable future (that being coach pj and ga tech of course).

Same old Tennessee. With no talent in state they have to travel like crazy to recruit players. The Vols have the largest recruiting budget in the country and one of the highest out-of-state rosters in Div. I.

It’s too bad because the state education system is cutting budgets at colleges and universities and at public schools, while the boosters still feed the monster in Neyland Stadium. It’s a shame when you bleed orange and white and the state budget is bleeding red.

Yes, the Vol Nation has its priorities in order.

Go figure. How in the world does UT hire this dude! What is the UT AD thinking? UT is one of the BEST HC jobs in the country! I guess NOBODY wanted the JOB! I hope Kiffin got his money up front! Lane Kiffin may not last a year…….

Hey dingleberry cobbler, your an idiot. First of all, Spurrier isn’t a better coach than anybody, Kiffin hasn’t coached a game yet in the SEC. I will give you Saban and Meyer this year b/c Richt did a bad job, but don’t be a dumba$$

I don’t understand you dawgs, your team loses 3 games and Richt does a bad job??? Good Grief!

Not true, Tennessee Jed. I live in Tennessee and have covered Tennessee politics, education etc for years. Less than half of the public school systems are accredited, due to the expense of the process. The graduation rates are low and the drop out rates high. Teenage pregs are out of control. After UT fired its last men’s hoop coach the athletic association had to borrow money the university’s general fund to pay the man off .

And now you have to pay off Full Filmer — what a joke!

If college football is your basis for economic prosperity , a state is in real trouble. About the only growth business are meth labs (just kidding).

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy living here but there’s more to life than college football. Especially when I see the ranks of unemployed folks signing up at our church’s food bank growing like kudzu.

Something needs to change in this state!

Kiffin will not last more than five years. NO COACH IN THE PAST 40 YEARS IN THE SEC HAS SUCCESSFULLY FOLLOWED A LEGENDARY, WINNING COACH. UT will NOT recruit any player away from UGA unless he is not interested in UGA or because his father (Eric Berry) played there. Seek help for your crack habit you delusional fools!

Hey Blackberry, It’s Kiffin, not Kippin brainiac…It’s obvious that your grasp and knowledge of SEC football and its coaches has no match. Saban and Meyer deserve their props so far this year, but don’t be ridiculous.

Old Dawg sounds like some 80-year-old mad at the world UGA homer, who states he lives in TN and covers politics, sports, etc. Cover for what, the AJC? And if the teen pregnancy rates are that out of control, why don’t you wear a condom when you are trolling the female locker rooms for pre-pube chicks?? If you are that old, just turn off your black and white TV set by pushing the power button (since you don’t have a remote) and go to bed already. What’s it like to eat dinner at 4:30 and be asleep at 6pm? Oh, stay out of the fast lane already and turn your damn blinker off…where did you learn to drive, in Georgia??

Old Dawg, I am just wondering where you get your information. Word here in Knoxville is that boosters put up the money for both Peterson and Fulmers buyout and that it was a drop in the bucket (ie, the Haslams, if you are involved in politics you should know them). In regards to recruiting, I was always under the impression that the millions and millions made from games played within our 102,000 seat stadium mixed with contributions from the VASF covered the recruiting budget and not a single dime came from tuition or taxes. I also seriously question your knowledge of TNs educational system. While I agree it is sorely lacking, saying that less then 50% of schools are not accredited is ludicrous. According to the latest State Report Card we are well above your silly numbers. You can bust out a bunch of garbage like you have inside sources or that my info is propaganda, but I would put my faith in the Gov. website before I would listen to someone using an anonymous screen name claiming to be a former political insider, who just so happens to be anti-TN (or at least that is how you post reads).

Pardon the gaffe in the previous post, I meant “Saying less then 50% of the school are accredited is ludicrous”
