Kiffin makes WR Marlon Brown a top recruiting priority

UGA’s chances of landing its No. 1 target at wide receiver, Marlon Brown of Memphis, may have gotten a little more challenging after Monday’s turn of events.

When Lane Kiffin was introduced as Tennessee’s new coach, he made it a point to say he wanted to “put a fence around the state of Tennessee” to keep recruits from going elsewhere.

Then Kiffin left the press conference, hopped on a plane, and met in person with Brown later that evening. Kiffin attended Brown’s basketball game and then made an in-home visit, according to VolQuest.

“It was very important that he came to see me first,” Brown told the website. “He told me that he could have went to an alumni dinner and stuff in Knoxville to get settled in, but that he came to see me because he wants to recruit the best in America.”

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Brown has made official visits to UGA and Ohio State, and will take recruiting trips to LSU, Florida and Tennessee in January. Brown said last month that he plans to return to Georgia for an unofficial visit to watch a basketball game.

When do new coaches NOT say that they want to put a fence around their state? How does the new coach visiting Marlon Brown make any difference? Marlon Brown, like most recruits, already has about a 90% idea of where he’s going to go. These recruits milk the process as long as they can for attention. The smart ones consider the facts and go to school that’s best for them. Unfortunately, the dumb ones (and there are many) are suckered by false promises or influenced by lies told by coaches about other programs. The process is disgusting.

31-0 at the half?!!

UGA has a good recruiting class to date - but the final pieces will be tough to land - look for 3 star and potential 2 stars to round out the class…or recruits that could not get into Florida or BAMA due to these classes being full.

Think about it from a recruits perspective….. and WHY WOULD YOU GO TO UGA if being recruited by BAMA, Florida, Texas, or SoCal??

  • UGA is now perceived (right of wrong) as a program that has run it’s course under the current regime…..is now moving in the wrong direction.

BAMA and Florida are programs in control with hard nose coaches, true leadership, that state that they are there to Win National Titles

Now compare that to UGA and Richt. Richt is a CLASS ACT, a good coach, and a very NICE GUY….but when asked about a National Title - he says that he can’t control that ….winning the SEC EAST is the first goal, “hopefully” winning the getting to the SEC Titlawinning the SEC CG is the second - and from there - hopefully getting into the NT game is the third.

SCREW THAT!!!! I would want to play for a coach that states “WINNING THE NATIONAL TITLE IS OUR GOAL!!!” - winning the SEC is simply happens along the way.

ONE REASON why UGA fell apart is that they could not handle the National recognition and expectations that they worked so hard to earn. UGA staff and players seemed relieved to not be burdened with the expectation of being a NATIONAL ELITE Program - and acted accordingly on and off the field.

I know it sounds like semantics - but outlook and perspective is huge.

I predict that Brandon Smith, Jarvis Jones, Marlon Brown, and others will wind up at BAMA, Florida, TEXAS, etc …. not UGA because of the above.

Big time recurits want to play on the National Stage with perceived NATIONAL PROGRAMS - NOT Regional or Conference Programs. UGA has historically been a very good Regional or Conference Program -but has never sustained a National Presence.

I really thought UGA would be there - and Urban has come in taken control. Look for the Vols to pass UGA soon - as they desire more than SEC greatness.

Athens is one of the best college towns in the NCAA. We have a sub par year and now we are the bottom of the SEC. UT has had losing records twice since 2000. Should I even talk about Bama the past 7 years? UGA produces NFL talent. Hines Ward, Champ Baily, Marcus Stroud, should I go on? UGA is in the top 3 with players in the NFL right now. Should I even mention 3 super bowl MVP’s. Things will get turned around and UGA will come up big when counted out like Bama this year. These guys will pick a school that will help them get to the next level in football and life.

Bamer Stanley,

You sure talk a lot of smack seeing as Bammer hasn’t won a conference title in years. Heck you just last week won the state championship for this first time in 6 or 7 years. Yes Tide wore us out this year but last year we tore your heart out on your own field. Enjoy your once in a lifetime season. LSU and Auburn will not have terrible years forever. From now on you and your friends will pile high expectations on Saban and he will soon leave. Think Notre Dame. Have to say though you are right on about Richt’s ambitions.

Dang, bama stanley. It’s one thing to comment on online recruiting news, it’s another to write a dissertation complete with bullet points. What a loser you must be. Take up woodworking or fly fishing or something. Gees.

Tennessee has put TWO receivers in the 1st round of the draft since 2001. How many 1st round receivers has Ugay made in that same time period?

There is a lot of truth to what George said about the state of Georgia’s football program. Ricts’s mind set is to play for a sec championship and the players play like that. They under achieved this year and if Rict dosent change his philosophy, they will never win the big game.

Bama Stan,

We dawg fans can clearly see that you are happy that Alabama’s program has FINALLY started winning again. Your last good team was in 1993. And yes, you did whip us good this year, but that was the first time in the last 4 mtgs that Alabama beat GA. It was also the first time in the last three tries that CMR lost to Saban. Alabama has a very good O line and veterans in key positions, so this is the yr for ya’ll, but don’t get carried away that this will last. Next year, Alabama will lose at least 3 games if not 4. We had a “down year” at 9-3 so that tells you how much “arse” we have been kicking the last 7 yrs!! See you next yr bama boy!!

Bama Stan, you’re ABSOLUTELY right!! As much as it pains me to say it, you’re right. No one on these blogs will admit the mentality of medicority that has invaded the UGA coaching staff. I’ve said it before on previous blogs, “WEAKNESS IS NOT INSPIRATIONAL.” When you don’t perceive the desire to win or the drive to be the best then how in the world can you expect anyone to follow you to greatness?

The coaches and players keep talking in circles about how the season ended up. They make excuses for the losses. They deflect blame and try to put a smiley face on the situation. Even though he cries after a loss, I’d rather have a guy like Tebow who stands up at a press conference after the loss to Ole Miss and says that “this will not happen again. No one will work harder than me the rest of the season.” And look what happened, they got behind their LEADER and won eight straight by more than convincing margins.

The Dawgs have apparently been neudered because I don’t see anyone with the balls to accept responsibility and lead with authority.

MARLON BROWN——memphis man—why would you even consider going to another place to play other than Memphis??? The reason is obvious—you want something better..so read on..

All I ask you to consider is this: What # do you wear right now—-imagine being on the field at Bryant-Denny Stadiume in front of 90,000 each Saturday wearing a number for the University of Alabama—a number that has been identified with so many great players who have worn it before…that is a great tradition…of being part of the best team atmosphere in all of college football! Your helmet tells it all—-it is YOU—not flashy, no logo, just your number—in sparkling, traditional crimson and white numerals. IT just doesn’t get ANY better than that. Alabama prides itself in having a group of selfless teammates who want to achieve national championship goals—-if that is what you want—then Tuscaloosa is the place and the red helmet is the identity you will want to be part of. Trust your instincts—go to TENN/GA or wherever you are comfortable—-if that is where your heart is—and have a great career—but if you want to be part of something special—then consider the Tide. Call them now and get a visit arranged—You will never regret it. The full support from the TIDE NATION—-is yours if you really want to be part of something—come on over.

Roll——nothing else needs to be said.
