Road Trip: Gainesville junior wonders if UGA will be next to offer
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Less than 24 hours after a Class AAA quarterfinal meeting with Carver-Columbus, Gainesville juniors Tailer Jones and Blake Sims will trek to Athens on Saturday to watch Georgia host Georgia Tech.
Jones, a receiver, and Sims, a quarterback, are two players on the Dogs’ class of 2010 recruiting list.
Jones received word on Wednesday that he had received a scholarship offer from Miami. The Hurricanes are recruiting him as a cornerback. He received an offer from Stanford today.
“Miami is a great school with great athletic programs,” said Jones, who also has offers from Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, N.C. State, Ole Miss, South Carolina and West Virginia. “And they have a broadcast journalism department that is one of the best in the nation.”
Jones isn’t sure if the Dogs will offer him this weekend.
“An offer from Georgia would be superb,” he said. “I’m hoping for the best on Saturday, but I’m not sure if they will offer me or not.”

Just wondering. How many offers do UGA and Tech have left? Anyone know?

All of them, these players are juniors (2010).

Any word on how Jones wound up in Gainesville after playing at Roswell as a sophomore? Or does the AJC only write about college recruiting? Like the Gaskins kid who is playing basketball at Mississippi, players who jump from one program to another — for whatever reason — should be identified as having previously played at another school, especially those being heavily recruited.
Or is the AJC part of the “go along, get along” philosophy that casts a blind eye at recruiting/program hopping of and by elite high school athletes at the prep level?

“Already Recruited” sounds disturbed by a personal incident, or “transfer”, that has become the poster child for his/her blogs of hatred! It’s ignorant to state anything about Jones, unless you know his situation and parents personally. Which I’m sure you know neither. Miami, GA Tech, & Stanford don’t sound like community colleges, so maybe this student actually believes in something more than football. Roswell is 5A and Gainesville is 3A. Roswell was the defending state champions 2007, Gainesville hasn’t been to playoffs since 2005. What advantage did he gain, that couldn’t be secured at Roswell? As I understand it, Jones wasn’t starting on offense or defense at Roswell when he left, so an elite athlete recruited to Gainesville, he wasn’t!! Congrats to Jones, your belief in your ability and your hard work in the classroom, has paid off. Don’t let hate marginalize your success!! If people knew their harsh words, would fuel your motives for success, they would have said nothing, and left you to dwell in medocrity.

Hey Already Recruited. I guess you didn’t want to respond to HornetMom09 or maybe you didn’t have your facts before you opened your big mouth. Are you possibly from the coaching staff at Roswell who had Jones 3rd or 4th on the depth chart? Maybe you should ask the Roswell coaches why he left. They cared so much about Jones that when he transferred they didn’t even attempt to call him. Just maybe the kid wanted to go play football, baseball, and study hard so he could quit worrying about the political BS that Roswell brings. I would line Jones up against any wide receiver or DB Roswell has and he would blow them away 9 times out of 10. Maybe the Roswell coaches aren’t good at grading talent. You pointed the finger the wrong way on this one.

People can get really touchy for absolutely no reason. I simply asked a question with no negative intent. He was at one school, now he’s at another. This sort of thing happens a lot with high school athletes. I have no idea what went into his transfer, but the simple fact of the matter is that he transferred, and should be acknowledged as such in recruiting stories.
As for the basketball player I referred to, he played at 3 different schools in the area in 3 years. Wouldn’t high school sports be wonderful if more kids did that?
It could be that Jones transferred for perfectly legitimate reasons. Please point to anything in my post that insinuated anything otherwise. Do you not think that the fact he transferred from one school to another is not a relevant fact in stories written about him or other high profile athletes who do the same thing?
A whole lot of big time high school athletes (not inferring at all that Jones is one of them) transfer for reasons that are not in the best interests of high school sports in general. Or do you believe that is not the case? Before you impugn someone else’s motives, check your own first. Most of what I was saying was focused on the AJC and its complicity in the process.
I believe Jones is also a talented baseball player. If he was transferring in part to get away from Roswell’s baseball coach, I perfectly understand.
