How It Went: Buford junior running back Johnson watches Tech beat UGA

Buford junior running back Storm Johnson was among the large group of recruiting targets at Sanford Stadium on Saturday for the annual Georgia-Georgia Tech contest.

“It was a nice experience,” Johnson said. “It was raining, but other than that it was a good visit.

“The coaches at Georgia treat you really well.”

Johnson, whose first scholarship offer came from Stanford, said the Dogs and several other prominent programs have indicated that they will offer him during the winter.

“A lot of schools are telling me they will offer me in January or February,” he said. “That includes Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Miami, Ohio State and Texas.”

On Stanford: “It’s a great school. The academics there are really good. They run the ball about 65 percent of the time. I like the coaches and atmosphere at Stanford. They’re high on my list.”

Storm, Your dad showed me tapes of your games back when I worked out in the gym in Lithonia. You were a little stud back then, and have grown into a fine young man. It’s not a surprise given your great parents. I hope Ga. Tech makes you an offer so you can come to the Flats & STORM THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL WORLD!

Hope you get that offer from the dawgs so you can get that pre-season National Championship ring! Who knows, you might even be on a team that finishes in the top 10 one year if you get to play Hawaii again in a major bowl. You’ll get to play with 4 and 5 star recruits that consistently struggle or lose to SC, Vandy, and Kentucky. But the one thing that you can count on is that Florida will humiliate you each and every year.

AlaDawg,

That was one of the more childish things I have read since reading the 2nd grade bathroom wall some 40 years ago. We don’t need your kind of support. Please move along. Anywhere but here will do fine.

RealDawgFan,

What is it that you find untrue in my post? When have we ever played like a team loaded with 4 and 5 star players? Do you really think it is ever going to happen with our current group of clowns? Look at Alabama and how little talent they have, but how much they achieved with a real coach. Think ours is in the same class?

By RealDawgFan

November 30, 2008 1:02 PM | Link to this

AlaDawg,

I never said it was untrue, I said it was childish. My job as a fan is to support the team, thick or thin. Calling them clowns or calling for them to be fired is unproductive. Frankly, if Mark Richt listened for one second to the fans and fired his coaching staff as a result, I would lose all respect for him. I put very little stock in the 4 or 5 star concept. Terrell Owens is a prime example of that. All the talent but little to show for it. Anyway, UGA is my team and always will be, good or bad.

RealDawgFan,

Well, I guess you were disappointed when we fired Goff and Donnan, too. I hold the coaches, and particularly Richt responsible for the recruits. If he is recruiting players with lots of talent, but little heart or character, then that is his problem, and he needs to correct it.

Think Alabama had better talent, or do you think they were better coached? How about Florida?

Would you rather put up with this crap forever or make a change? I don’t think anyone is talking about firing the entire staff, but if Richt doesn’t start making changes, that is what will ultimately happen. I don’t think most of us are as happy to accept mediocrity as you.

Storm:

Between Alabama Dawg and Real Dawg, it sure sounds like there’s trouble brewing in “paradise”, doesn’t it?

Continue to “hit the books”, be a good citizen, and a scholarship offer from Coach Johnson may well be forthcoming.

Don’t you want a chance to be a part of a 400+ rushing yard game against ACC and SEC defenses? When Coach Johnson comes calling, you do the right thing and bring that talent to Bobby Dodd Stadium, and play with other men of good character. GO TECH!

Storm, I’m very proud of you, that’s what you see when you come from humble beginnings. Do keep up your school work up, because that’s more important then anything. No matter which college coach offers you a scholarship, you do your best off the field and on the field. Also remember your high school coach can make you or break you, no matter how many scholarship offers you have, you see what happen to Rico, because of the lies his coach told. So, please stay humble and keep running that ball. “BRING HOME ANOTHER RING”

AlaDawg,

No I was very happy to see Goff and Donnan go and I don’t accept mediocrity. I agree changes need to be made, and I for one will trust Richt to make the right decisions. We are both frustrated because we want a successful team and ultimately that means a NC sometime in the near future! So, good luck to us in the coming off-season and GO DAWGS next year!

Football fans are so impatent. A coach wins the nat. cship.Wins his conf. several times. Then has a problem with injuries or a better team beating him and its fire somebody. A 9 and 3 record is pretty darn good. If you get a coach that has an excellant record every year for 10 years, somebody in the pros is gonna hire him away.I’m an old geezer. Been a fan for 60 years. Wally Butts at UGA and Bobby Dodd at Tech had rebuilding years always back in the 40’s and 50’s and fans just accepted it and expected it. Whats happened to college sports. Its win at ANY cost nowadays. If your coach has been sucessful for a few seasons, he will be again. Just give him a chance. And stop b***. Most of the complainers have never played football, much less coached.

Hey, techies, engage your puffy brains and do some math. 8 seasons. 1 win. Wow! Careful, don’t faint over it. Now take a deep breath and it’s back to the robots. Your team’s had a nice year with a gimmick offense that no one else uses, so no one prepares for it. That won’t last. It’s kinda funny to watch you after you actually pull one off - it’s like you can’t even remember what it felt like, it’s been so long. Cue this one up on your holodeck so you can remember it during the next 7 game losing streak that starts next season.

It is funny how the bit&h nation reacts after they get their arses handed to them in their own house. All I can say is wait until next year when the ramblin wreck is really in full affect. UGAY just sucks plain and simple. ahahahah national champs yeah right, maybe next year favorite saying in clarke county.

Its not a gimmick offense. The blocking is a little suspect w/ the chop block but once CPJ gets the right linemen in place, that will be eliminated. This offense is more like the Nebraska offense of the early 90’s and CPJ has been quoted as say ing he hasn’t even installed 50 percent of the passing packages. Come on. Some Tech fans are rubbing it in but for the past 7 years, Dog fans have done the same. Suck it up and move on. You’ll get another shot next year. But I’m sick of hearing how this is a gimmick offense. College football was invented w/ this type of offense. So what you are saying is all of college football is a gimmick?

It was a great game and I’m glad the rivalry is back. Richt has a steady program and will right the ship but you can no longer dimiss the joke by Coke b/c this team is gonna be for real.

That gimmick offense just ran for almost 900 yards over the last 2 weeks against Miami & UGA. You call it gimmicky and i’ll call it effective. 410 yards is a lot to give up on the ground. I guess I would be pretty disappointed in my team if they gave up 400 + yards on the ground and 45 pts to a team that completed 1 pass all game long. Paul Johnson said we are going to run it down your throats in your house and what did the dawgs do about it? Nothing. Get used to taking your yearly beating Dawg fans.

Exactly! That’s exactly what I’m saying, college football is a gimmick. Zing! A regular debate captain. College football was invented with leather helmets, too. Tech should bring those back next year. Get upset about the word gimmick all you want. Whatever. It’s an offense the no one runs and teams are unfamiliar with it. Installing it is a ‘gimmicky move’. Go ahead and install the other 50 percent of the passing packages. Let’s see how you do when other teams start properly preparing for it. That said, Georgia’s Defense has been pretty below average all year, so that one you get. (your defense pretty much blew chunks Saturday, too) Hey, check out your O lineman #73’s sweet block in the back that sprung Dwyer for the first td in the 2nd half. Get away with more of those next year and it’s co-national champion time all over again! Believe me, I get it, you’re all living the high life because you didn’t think you had a snowball’s chance to beat Georgia, and you stole one. I don’t expect you to act like you’ve been there because - let’s be honest - you haven’t. Savor your shocking 3 point ‘beating’. You showed those Dawgs, didn’t you?

Hey Gimmick, your first post sounds pretty familiar…change the teams around a bit to say…UNIV of FLA and ugay…3 out of 20 something?? ugay is a mid tier team in an avg conf…face it…

Good thing you have all of those 4-5 star guys! Or you would be 6-6 like most of the sec.

richt should be and will be fired if he continues to lead the nation in arrest & penalties, bottom of the conf in graduation, loose to the only 2 good teams in the “oh so great sec” and GT…it’s gonna happen…

Oh, BigJim. Funny someone calling himself “BigJim” uses “ugay” to describe anyone else. For my first post to sound familiar, I would have to have posted something…anything…like the overly-excited techies are spewing everywhere today. Didn’t happen, “bigjim”. It’s a sad record against florida, to be sure. Just like tech’s against Georgia. But I have sense enough to keep my mouth shut when the series is so lopsided. And predictable that you would point to a game/team that has nothing to do with Georgia v. tech when you have nothing else to stand on. Speaking of graduation, where’d you graduate from, “bigjim”? (see “loose to”). Conference pride seems important to you. So does ranking high school boys with stars. Good luck with that, “bigjim”

From a non-biased 3rd party point of view:

UGA came into the season pretty darned self-rightous and arrogant. Suddenly they are filling the posts blaming the officials and calling other offenses “gimmicky”.

Face it GT’s Gimmick Offense….Your team got spanked and it was ugly. I see no reason to think that Paul Johnson won’t outcoach Richt and his staff for years to come until somebody convinces him to put some discipline in his players both on and off the field. There is absolutely NO reason UGA should lose to Tech…NONE. If Richt doesn’t get control of this squad I’d suggest you get used to it because next year you’ll be making the same excuses.

GT’s Gimmick….apparently you didn’t graduate from UGA. You must take (pass) English in order to graduate. Please tell me you didn’t get a degree….or you’d not use prepositions after verbs to end a phrase in a sentence. I won’t even tell you where it is….you should be able to find it yourself.

looks like those cheating dawgs are at it again.

while celebrating the stomping of uga a group of gt fans witnessed the wining and dining of a fb recruit at a local athens resturaunt by uga boosters saturday.

they were overheard to say ‘come to uga son and we will take care of you real well’ on more than one occasion.

it was hard to NOT notice what was going on considering that most uga boosters make sure that they are the center of the universe where ever they go. woof woof.

rest assured the gt fans recorded this event with cell phone cameras. they will be forwarding this info to the appropriate ncaa office.

all potential uga recruits should be forwarned. history shows that uga commits major cheating violations approx every 4-5 years. they are due.

its a shame that uga has to cheat in order to finish in the top 25.

one would think that they could do this the right way. than again being the dawgs that they are i guess not!

uga cleanest program in the NCAA? guess you didnt hear about the multiple arrests last summer, i think 11 dawgs were arrested? and mr. gimmick, stop whining about uga losing, tech was the better team this year. uga was hyped from the start and didnt produce, tech on the other hand was projected to win 3 this year….3 hmmmm whats our record this year? 9-3? pretty impressive to me, if you think that the offense is a gimmick, you need a cat scan cause your sorry dawgs got ripped to pieces saturday by a bunch of underclassmen. the system has proven to be effective whether you believe it or not, i mean, it beat uga. you sir are just an egotistical georgia fan who does not know how to handle a loss, better get used to it, theres more to come

GT - You have a gift for exaggeration. The facts: georgia tech won the game. Georgia lost the game. There is no denial or whining about it, my boy. But georgia tech did NOT deliver a “spanking” or a “beating”. They won by 3 points. Florida delivered a beating. Alabama delivered a spanking. georgia tech had a great 3rd quarter on the ground against a defense that was proven to be very sub-par long before Nov. 29. (tech didn’t show much defense either, champ, speaking of “ripped to pieces”.) But make no mistake, what georgia tech delivered, at best, was a “squeaking by”. I think I’m handling the loss just fine, but you tech fans have more experience with handling losses, so I guess you’d know better. You guys so expected to lose that winning at all, even by 3 points, becomes more than it is. Must be sad being a tech fan - you’re so sure you’ll lose that it’s shocking when you actually win. But the fact remains, tech got the win. Savor the taste. It won’t last.

And arrests for drinking, fighting or being a 19 year old kid has nothing to do with recruiting violations, genius.

Storm, I just signed on and realized that’s the kid that played at Wade Walker with my son. Although my son didnt play much when you all were 5-6 years old, the team finished undefeated. I was surprised last year when I went to the Dunwoody (my son plays at Dunwoody), chamblee game and after almost 12 years I said that the Chamblee QB looks familiar. Well it was the QB of the WW team from back then. Congrats and good luck to you.
