Southwest DeKalb RB Michael Johnson says Florida still calling
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Southwest DeKalb running back Michael Johnson said Florida has remained in contact while he is recovering from a broken leg. Johnson hurt the leg in practice last month.
Johnson, a 6-foot-2, 220-pounder, rated Florida’s interest as “medium,” but they have been calling.
“I’ve been taking to them consistently. They just haven’t made an offer,” said Johnson, who added that Florida has been honest in their contacts with him. Things will have to change - such as other Florida recruits backing off - before his status changes with the Gators.
Johnson says Jacksonville State has impressed him with its interest. No offer has been made, but he still is interested in lining up a visit. Johnson has made an official visit to Eastern Michigan and an unofficial visit to South Carolina State.
He also has offers from Akron, Eastern Michigan and Western Carolina.

Lithia’s Marable wonders about recruiting rumors
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Lithia Springs linebacker Justin Marable is hoping his 25 tackles for loss will look good enough on tape to overcome a stat he can do nothing about — his size.
The 5-foot-10, 210-pounder has no official offers, though he has visits planned to Alabama State, Georgia Southern and Valdosta. Previous reports of offers from Illinois, Indiana, Akron and Army were unfounded, he said.
“I don’t know where that came from. I’d be interested, but no one’s offered yet.”Some of them told me they were going to, but none of them has yet, and I guess it’s because I’m a little undersized. I had a really good senior season, and hopefully when they get game tapes they’ll see something.”

Boise State has big plans for North Gwinnett QB Michael Tamburo
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Michael Tamburo has watched Boise State’s last three games, the first in person, the last two on television. The No. 9 Broncos are on national television again on Friday, but Tamburo will have to record this one as his North Gwinnett Bulldogs will be playing at Newnan in a quarterfinal playoff game.
Now that he’s given his verbal commitment, Tamburo not only watches the game, he studies it.
“I just like to get to know the offense,” he said. “And it’s fun because I’ve taken my official visit and fun knowing certain players.”
The undefeated Broncos, who start a freshman quarterback, Kellen Moore, are not planning on redshirting Tamburo. They want him “to come out and try to compete,” he said. Boise State coaches haven’t told the 180-pounder that he needs to gain weight, but he expects to add as much as 15 pounds through his offseason weight program.
Tamburo, who doesn’t plan on going back to Boise State until spring practice, isn’t entertaining any other offers.
“I pretty much called off the other schools,” he said. “It’s a solid commitment. I’m going to stay with them no matter what.”
Tamburo recently was the subject of an online newspaper poll asking if he’s the best quarterback in Gwinnett history. About three quarters of the respondents said no. “I saw that. I kind of laughed,” he said. “But it’s an honor being mentioned in the same sentence as guys like David Greene.”
