Jefferson Co. junior Bostic gets Georgia Tech offer

The trip to Bobby Dodd Stadium earlier this month to watch Georgia Tech host Florida State proved to be beneficial for Jefferson County junior Barry Bostic.

That’s when he claimed his first scholarship offer.

“[Tech assistant] coach [Charles] Kelly told me at the game he wanted me to be a Yellow Jacket,” Bostic said.

A major draw to Tech is his Jefferson County senior teammate, and cousin, Chris Crenshaw, who has committed to Tech.

“That’s very important to me,” Bostic said. “But I love all of the coaches at Tech. And being in the city of Atlanta, it has a lot of attractions.”

The 5-foot-10, 165-pound Bostic is being recruited by Tech as a cornerback. He’s being courted by Florida as a receiver. He’s also very interested in UGA.

“If Florida offers, I’d put them on top just because their atmosphere is a little louder,” said Bostic, who attended Florida’s win over LSU in Gainesville last month.

“I haven’t seen Georgia Tech’s weight room, but Florida’s weight room is just phenomenal.”

Bostic is scheduled to attend junior day at Tech on Jan. 31. He’s also slated to participate in the U.S. Army national combine in San Antonio after Christmas.

Big Bug:

You are not helping. This young guy is a junior. He will easily be able to add 20 lbs, and if he runs fast, his height will not be that big of an issue at cornerback!!

Barry: Thank you for considering Tech. If our coaches want you, I know you are a quality young man.

Go Jackets!!

Bug your right, I don’t want to take a 5’10 165 pounder even though he is on the ESPN 150 Watchlist for juniors. Who cares that the Tech staff thinks enough to have offered him this early for a class with limited ships. Anyone could get invited to the elite junior day in January. This kid is simply too small to play D1 football. Seriously, before you knock a kid for his size, do a little research on him. UF’s Chris Rainey, Jeff Demps, and Brandon James are all tiny same for LSU’s Trindin Holliday, and are you telling me that you wouldn’t want one of them? This kid is bigger than any of them with 21 months before September of his true freshman year to get bigger. But you must know all…

Big Bug, you did notice that the weight room was important to him??? FWIW, I was 165 as a junior and played at 190+ in college…

He puts Florida at the top because the atmosphere is louder? Whatever dude!

I think there’s a bit more to picking a college than basing it on how loud their fans are or how nice the weight room is.

Likes UF because 1) it’s loud, and 2) has an awesome weight room.

Son, you’re 16-17, so at least you have a good excuse. Here’s to hoping that someone gets your ear in 2009 to convince you that those two things should actually be near the bottom of your list.

Pick a school that 1) has a staff that looks out for your safety and education, 2) wins, 3) has good academics, 4) will get you on the field.
