Georgia Tech puts Lithia Springs DT on recruiting board
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Lithia Springs defensive tackle Bryan Davis, who has offers from Georgia Southern and Alabama State, said he’s recently been contacted by Georgia Tech.
“I went to one of their lineman camps,” said Davis, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150. “they wanted me for the offensive line and not the defensive line.”
Davis said Tech assistant Brian Bohannon told him he was behind other players the Yellow Jackets’ are recruiting, but that if those players opt to go elsewhere, he could get an offer.”
Meanwhile, he recently took an unofficial visit to Louisville and he’s waiting on an offer from the Cardinals.
“I’ll play both sides,” he said. “It does’t matter. I just want to play.

Where does Georgia Tech stand with Ware County DE Staten?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Georgia Tech continues to express strong interest in Ware County’s Jimmy Staten, who is popping up on recruiting boards as a prospect for the Jackets.
But according to Ware County coach John Stephens, Tech hasn’t pulled the trigger on a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-3, 220-pound defensive end.
“To my knowledge, there is no concrete offer from Tech,” Stephens said. “But he and a junior teammate, Adrian Mack, went to their game Thursday night against Miami.
“I know that Georgia Tech pushed really hard to get him to that game Thursday night.”
A nagging injury kept slowed Staten during Ware County’s final two games.
Other schools currently targeting him are Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Troy and Western Kentucky.
“And he’s been talking to Auburn,” Stephens said.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

M.L. King linebacker Joel Kight has a visit planned next weekend (Dec. 6) to Oklahoma State, according to his coach.
It will be the second official visit for Kight, a 5-foot-10, 200-pound senior, who visited Boston College last month. M.L. King coach Corey Jarvis said Kight has yet to set up a visit to Mississippi, one of the schools he has considered a leader in his recruitment.
Kight also has offers from Connecticut, Duke, Miami-Ohio, Indiana and Arizona State.
Kight was MLK’s leading tackler this season with 114 in 11 games. He also had three sacks, 13 tackles for loss and one interception.

Top prospect quits football for motorcycle school
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
One of Florida’s top college prospects has decided to quit football and enroll in motorcycle school.
Defensive lineman Josh Elizondo of Naples, Fla., told GoGamecocks he was kicked off his high school team a month ago “for missing too many practices” and has decided not to play football again, even in college. The 6-foot-2, 270-pound Elizondo has offers from South Carolina, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Duke and Iowa State.
“I was missing too many practices because I didn’t want to play football anymore,” he told the website. “There is a lot of favoritism, a lot of drama, with Naples football.”
“I used to love football, but I’m tired of it. I’ve got other interests now.”
Elizondo said he will enroll at the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Orlando, Fla.

Injured Carver LB Jarvis Jones taking on a new role
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Out for the season with a broken thumb, Carver-Columbus linebacker Jarvis Jones has taken a new role on the team.
“He is a vocal leader now and he is challenging his teammates to step up,” head coach Dell McGee said. “He’s like a coach and he comes to practice every day telling the other linebackers what he sees.”
Walking away with a 21-6 victory last Friday, McGee said Jones’ absence was tough against Woodward Academy’s triple-option offense.
“We bent a little bit, but we didn’t break,” said McGee. “It was tough but the kids responded. They ran to the football and that’s something we stress. I was pleased.”
McGee said Jones’ surgery last week went well. He said he will probably be out 5-6 weeks.
“Right now we are preparing to play without him,” he said. “He’s got pins in to get the bones back in the correct spot.”
McGee said he cannot see Jones playing in the Class AAA state championship should they make it.
“He should be able to play in the all-star game though,” he said.

Injured Tucker DL Deion Roberson has plenty of big-time offers
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Tucker lineman Deion Roberson is 6-foot-3 and 258 pounds, but there’s still some growing to do, says his high school coach.
Once that happens, look out in college.
“Deion is a big athletic defensive lineman who will demand double teams on the next level,” said Tucker coach Franklin Stephens. “When he finishes growing and maturing, he will be an excellent lineman on the next level.”
Where Roberson will end up at the next level has yet to be decided. He said recently that he has official visits set with Louisville (this weekend) and North Carolina State in January. He also said that a visit to West Virginia, originally planned for the first weekend of December, had to be re-scheduled because it’s the same day he is taking the SAT.
There hasn’t been anything else new to report on Roberson’s recruitment, perhaps a product of the ankle injury he suffered in the first game of the season. The severely dislocated left ankle has kept him off the field the entire season.
Stephens said Roberson’s rehab “is on schedule.”
Roberson also has been offered by Memphis, Maryland, East Carolina, Michigan State, Iowa State, Georgia Southern and South Alabama.

Mill Creek DE Ryan Robinson names two leaders
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Mill Creek defensive end Ryan Robinson received an offer from Oklahoma State.
“He has an official visit scheduled in January,” said Mill Creek coach Shannon Jarvis
Robinson, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150, currently has offers from South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky and Oklahoma State. Jarvis said his top choices are South Carolina and Oklahoma State.
Jarvis said Clemson assistant coach Ron West has shown an interest in Robinson as well.
“Clemson was Ryan’s top choice, but with the coaching situation up in the air, he’s not sure what’s going to happen.”
Robinson’s uncle, Ken Robinson, is the head coach at Greater Atlanta Christian. He played for the Gamecocks as well as the Washington Redskins. Ryan’s father, George Robinson, played for Clemson.
“It’s definitely a house divided,” said Jarvis. “I’m not sure if that is going to influence Ryan. He is a quiet kid and tough to read. I think he is keeping his options open.”
Jarvis said Robinson has done an excellent job of keeping the recruiting process in perspective.
“He is focused on playing football and getting better as a player,” he said.

Jefferson Co. junior Bostic gets Georgia Tech offer
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
The trip to Bobby Dodd Stadium earlier this month to watch Georgia Tech host Florida State proved to be beneficial for Jefferson County junior Barry Bostic.
That’s when he claimed his first scholarship offer.
“[Tech assistant] coach [Charles] Kelly told me at the game he wanted me to be a Yellow Jacket,” Bostic said.
A major draw to Tech is his Jefferson County senior teammate, and cousin, Chris Crenshaw, who has committed to Tech.
“That’s very important to me,” Bostic said. “But I love all of the coaches at Tech. And being in the city of Atlanta, it has a lot of attractions.”
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound Bostic is being recruited by Tech as a cornerback. He’s being courted by Florida as a receiver. He’s also very interested in UGA.
“If Florida offers, I’d put them on top just because their atmosphere is a little louder,” said Bostic, who attended Florida’s win over LSU in Gainesville last month.
“I haven’t seen Georgia Tech’s weight room, but Florida’s weight room is just phenomenal.”
Bostic is scheduled to attend junior day at Tech on Jan. 31. He’s also slated to participate in the U.S. Army national combine in San Antonio after Christmas.
