New ‘AJC’s The Georgia 150’ will be released on Sunday

After talking with college scouts and high school coaches across the state, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution will release an updated list of the “AJC’s The Georgia 150” in Sunday’s print editions.

The list was last updated in August.

There will be more than 50 changes from the original list.

Do you know of any deserving players? If so, please state your case below. Do you know of any recent offers? Or colleges coming on strong?

[Note: The 150 is based on player’s college “potential.” A high school senior may be a great player, not necessarily a top prospect. While that player may or not appear on the 150, he could be considered for the All-State team, etc.]

Perry OL Johnnie Farms taking official visit to North Carolina

Perry offensive lineman Johnnie Farms, a South Carolina commit, is taking an official visit to North Carolina this weekend.

“He is still committed to South Carolina,” Perry coach Andy Scott said. “He just wants to make sure South Carolina is where he wants to go.”

Scott said Farms, a 6-foot-3, 306-pound member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150, is only taking official visits to North Carolina and South Carolina. He said he is not considering any other schools.

“I think once he visits North Carolina, it will solidify his commitment to South Carolina,” Scott said.

Rivals.com ranks Farms as the 8th best offensive guard in the nation.

How It Went: Georgia Tech impresses Valdosta OL Foster

Valdosta offensive lineman Antonio Foster was among the large contingent of recruits in attendance during Georgia Tech’s victory over Miami Thursday evening.

The five-hour drive from Valdosta proved worthwhile for Foster, who committed to the Jackets on Nov. 4.

“The visit went great. It felt like I was at home,” Foster said. “I really liked the atmosphere. I saw the city and how it was lit up. It was just a good environment.”

Foster met with several members of Tech’s coaching staff.

“I just felt like I was wanted there and felt that they were really glad that I committed to them,” he said.

During his visit, Foster struck up a conversation with another Tech commit, Stephen Hill of Miller Grove.

“We talked about how we’re both going to play in the all star game in Myrtle Beach,” said Foster, who will return to Tech on Dec. 13 for an official visit.

Recruiting secret: Clemson had inside position on state’s top two prospects

If Tommy Bowden had remained at Clemson, the Tigers had a great shot at having its most prolific recruiting year ever in Georgia.

Clemson traditionally does well in the talent-rich state, but this year the Tigers were on the brink of something very special: They appeared to have inside position on stealing away two of the state’s top two prospects - Booker T. Washington cornerback Branden Smith and Carver-Columbus linebacker Jarvis Jones.

Both were considered locks to sign with Clemson. But since the coaching change, Smith and Jones have eliminated Clemson from their list of finalists, and Georgia has re-emerged with high-priority interest, at least with Smith. Jones appears headed out of state, but will take an official visit to Georgia in January.

“Once upon a time, Clemson was my No. 1 school,” Smith admitted to the AJC on Wednesday. “In my mind, I could see myself signing with Clemson. And then all the changes happened, and it went downhill from there.”

Georgia Tech, FSU offer Chattahoochee County’s Cedric Wilson

Chattahoochee County is located just south of Columbus and the high school there has only had a varsity football team for three years. But college recruiters have quickly found there way to Cusseta.

Cedric Wilson (6-foot-2, 215 pounds), wide receiver Jacovi White (6-3, 220) and defensive tackle Kendrick Reeves (6-1, 275) will certainly draw attention.

“About everybody is recruiting Cedric,” said Chattahoochee coach Josh Kemp. “Florida State is leading but South Florida, Clemson, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Auburn and Memphis have offered him too.”

Wilson is being looked at as a safety, linebacker or running back, and he has met NCAA academic standards. White would also be highly pursued but academic shortcomings will likely lead him to Butler County Junior College in Kansas.

Meanwhile, Reeves has been offered by Ball State and Southern Miss, according to Kemp.

“I’ve got another bunch of college coaches coming by today. I can’t even keep track on them all,” said Kemp.

Florida Gators invade Atlanta for recruits

Florida will play in the SEC championship game on Dec. 6, but the Gators already are making their presence felt in the Atlanta area.

With Florida riding a wave of momentum, helped by the convincing victory against Georgia, the Gators are intensifying their local recruiting efforts.

Florida coach Urban Meyer is desperately seeking defensive linemen. He was turned down by North Cobb’s Derrick Lott (committed to Georgia) but appears to making inroads with Centennial’s Euclid Cummings.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Cummings traveled to watch Florida last weekend. He didn’t receive an offer but expects one in the near future.

The Gators also are making a late push for Douglass linebacker Jonathan Atchison, who picked Auburn over Alabama in August but has agreed to take official visits to both schools.

If things weren’t confusing enough for Atchison, Florida entered the picture late, but he’s listening. The Gators’ SEC trip to Atlanta surely makes recruiting Atchison more convenient, especially for defensive coordinator Charlie Strong.

“Coach Strong wants to see me in person, and I’ll get the offer,” said Atchison. “I’ll be at the SEC Championship, and then [Strong] is coming to my school that following Monday [on Dec. 8].”

Florida recently offered two Auburn commitments —- Parkview tailback Brandon Jacobs and Lassiter tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen.
