Florida Gators invade Atlanta for recruits

Florida will play in the SEC championship game on Dec. 6, but the Gators already are making their presence felt in the Atlanta area.

With Florida riding a wave of momentum, helped by the convincing victory against Georgia, the Gators are intensifying their local recruiting efforts.

Florida coach Urban Meyer is desperately seeking defensive linemen. He was turned down by North Cobb’s Derrick Lott (committed to Georgia) but appears to making inroads with Centennial’s Euclid Cummings.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Cummings traveled to watch Florida last weekend. He didn’t receive an offer but expects one in the near future.

The Gators also are making a late push for Douglass linebacker Jonathan Atchison, who picked Auburn over Alabama in August but has agreed to take official visits to both schools.

If things weren’t confusing enough for Atchison, Florida entered the picture late, but he’s listening. The Gators’ SEC trip to Atlanta surely makes recruiting Atchison more convenient, especially for defensive coordinator Charlie Strong.

“Coach Strong wants to see me in person, and I’ll get the offer,” said Atchison. “I’ll be at the SEC Championship, and then [Strong] is coming to my school that following Monday [on Dec. 8].”

Florida recently offered two Auburn commitments —- Parkview tailback Brandon Jacobs and Lassiter tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen.

Um.. I don’t see where these kids are actually commiting to UF. Why would they want to go play for Urban Meyer? I guess he’ll teach them his good sportsmanship by keeping the starters in when you have a 40 pt lead on the opponent huh?

Hey WTF, Seems like these people are head hunters, real go get what u want type of coaches, Georgia on the other hand think there so great they can let them leak out. Not so fast my friend, if they are not careful they quality of players will continue to decline, I’m tired of all these 3 star players. Richt get off your ponk horse and land these guys, and keep them home. i’d prefer them to be Tech players than a foe like al,fl,auburn, lsu. This is seriously getting stupid.

When Auburn gets a 40 point someday then maybe they could figure out if they should leave their starters in. For now they should figure out how to end of winning by more than 1 point after 60 minutes.

I am a Dawg fan, but WTF as much as I hate to admit it Urban knows what style points are. In the BCS world you have got to put up big numbers to get in the title game. If we would have won out, yeah we would have a shot. UF lost to Ole miss and relized there were alot of good one loss teams, so you have to go for the jugular. Until there is a playoff people will continue to run up the score.

I think recruits should just stay in home state and not go out. fl things stay in fl and GA. players play for a team in Georgia, and the same for all other states. Then we would know what state is really the best.

The real story is:

UGA goes into the state of Florida and gets its best two recruits in Murray and Charles.

There is no way in hell I would let my kid play for that classless Meyer. He took a kid (RB), from Savh. last year then talked him out of coming and he went to the Eagles instead. No class at all. He just wants to hold these kids untill something late comes along.

I guess it’s ok for uga to recruit fla for players like owens/longo/evans etc. You bull pupps are just jealous of the gators. I know being pre-season conf champ and #1 nationally and being drubbed by the 2 teams playing for sec champ hard to swallow. How it taste?? 31-0 at half and 49-10. wow it should make you silver britches humble, but instead you complain about urban. remember losing 16 of last 19 and b*** about spurrier/urban/ (even zook was 2-1) does not make uga a winner. I know what is next put your tails between your leggs and leave Jax.
