Duke recruit Kadeem Wise meets with Georgia Tech coaches
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Berkmar defensive back Kadeem Wise told the AJC he met with Georgia Tech’s coaches before Thursday’s game with Miami.
Wise, who is committed to Duke, said he was not offered by Tech, but that he was going to try to talk to the Jackets’ coaches again after the game, if possible.
Both Tech and Vanderbilt have been aggressively recruiting Wise, who said neither school has yet to offer.
“I’m with Duke now, (but) if either one offered me and my parents would have to sit down and figure it out.”

Lassiter offensive lineman Camden Wentz learned that he has received a scholarship offer from Louisville.
“The coach at Louisville recruiting me left a message saying ‘I think I’ve got some news you’ve been waiting to hear,’” said Wentz, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150. “I called back and they were real excited. They want me to come up there for a visit.”
Wentz is scheduled to take an official visit to Louisville on Dec. 12. He took an unofficial visit there last month.
“I liked it a lot,” Wentz said. “They have great facilities. This will give me a better chance to see the campus.”
He is working on scheduling a trip to Arkansas during the month of December.

Will Georgia Tech try to lure away Duke recruit?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Duke commit Kadeem Wise of Berkmar continues to flirt with Tech. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound cornerback and Berkmar coach John Thompson plan to attend tonight’s game.
“I’m still committed to Duke, but I’ve been hearing from Tech and Vanderbilt,” he said. “I don’t have offers yet from either of those schools, but I think Tech may offer.”
Wise plans to hand-deliver a copy of his highlight tape during his visit.
“[Tech assistant] coach [Jeff] Monken said [a decision on an offer] will be made after they watch my film. Right now, I’m keeping my options open. If they offer, I’ll sit down with my parents and talk about it.”

Flowery Branch players go to practice, then Georgia Tech
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Thursday afternoon football practices are typically abbreviated at Flowery Branch.
So the timing of tonight’s ACC showdown between Miami and Georgia Tech works well for the head coach and four Falcons players who are being recruited by the Jackets and heading to the game.
“It will be hectic,” said Flowery Branch coach Lee Shaw, who plans to conclude today’s walk-through at 4:50 p.m. Flowery Branch will play Ridgeland on Friday in the second round of the state playoffs.
Once the final practice whistle blows, teammates Izaan Cross, Daniel Drummond, Rodriquez Frazier and Connor Shaw are expected to head to Grant Field for the 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
But Lee Shaw will be forced to make a slight detour before traveling to downtown Atlanta.
“Our daughter has a middle school basketball game [today],” said Shaw, whose son, Jaybo, is a quarterback for Tech. “I’ll sprint off the practice field and will still miss about half of her game. Then my wife and daughter and I will come down [to Tech] just in time to get in for the start of the game.”
Following a half-day of school on Friday, Shaw and his team will board chartered buses at noon for Rossville.
“This is all hectic, but exciting,” he said. “We’re making memories, and I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Miller Grove two-sporter will visit Tech game
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Georgia Tech’s big night of hosting prospects Thursday will include at least one who is wondering if it will mean a chance to play two sports for the Yellow Jackets.
Miller Grove defensive back/wide receiver Kenneth Gilstrap, also a blue-chip track prospect, will be one of the 100 or so football recruits invited to watch the Jackets play Miami.
Gilstrap, who wants to run track and play football in college, but only has one dual offer so far (from Western Kentucky), has been offered a track scholarship by Tech. A sprinter with 4.31 speed in the 40, he also has high-profile track scholarships from, South Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas State and Louisville.
His football offer list is less stellar, with Western Kentucky, Ohio, Richmond, Middle Tennessee and Alabama-Birmingham.
Gilstrap isn’t sure if Tech will come up with a dual-sport ride.
“If I get an offer [in football] that’ll be great, but I can’t count on something I don’t have,” he said. “They keep telling me to be patient, but I’ve been pretty patient.”
Gilstrap plans to attend a game at Middles Tennessee this week, then an official visit there next month.
He went on an official trip to Western Kentucky earlier this month and a track visit to South Carolina earlier this fall.
He said Western Kentucky is “still my leader.”

Valdosta OL Antonio Foster to attend first Georgia Tech game
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Valdosta offensive lineman Antonio Foster plans to check out of school at noon today and travel to Atlanta for tonight’s ACC contest. His college visit is considered an excused absence.
Foster committed to the Jackets on Nov. 4, and it’s his only chance to see the Jackets play at Bobby Dodd Stadium before national signing day in February.
“This will be my first Tech game,” said Foster, who withdrew his commitment to Tennessee after learning that Volunteers coach Phillip Fulmer will step down at the end of the season. “I just want to come and do the game and see how the crowd is at Georgia Tech.”
The decision to switch his commitment to Tech was difficult for Foster. “It’s been tough,” said Foster, whose offensive line coach at Valdosta is former Tech lineman Ashley Henderson. “I had to contact all the coaches at Tennessee and tell them what I did. But they just told me it was a good move on my part, and not to stress about it. The Tech staff is very excited, and I can tell they really want me. When I called them and wanted to commit there, it was so much like they were glad that I was coming to Georgia Tech.”
Foster is scheduled to remain in Atlanta this evening before driving back to Valdosta on Friday. He’ll return to Tech on Dec. 13 for an official visit.

Whitewater catcher/third baseman Miles Head signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at the University of Georgia.

Over the summer, he played in the Perfect Game National Showcase, where he was a finalist in the Home Run Derby.

Clemson recruit to meet with Mark Richt on Saturday
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
With Georgia off this weekend, the team’s coaches will be able to give the royal treatment to J.K. Jay of Greenville, S.C.
The 6-foot-7, 290-pound Jay is a longtime Clemson commitment, but he will look at other schools until the Tigers name a new coach. He is ranked as the nation’s No. 15 offensive tackle by Rivals.
Jay will make an unofficial visit to Georgia on Saturday, then said he will return for his official visit on Dec. 9.
“I haven’t been to Georgia since I went to football camp there when I was in the sixth grade,” Jay said.
The Bulldogs and Jay have had an intense relationship during the past three weeks. Georgia offered as soon as it found out Jay was looking around, and assistant coach Stacey Searels has followed up with daily e-mails.
Jay said he and his father talk to Georgia coach Mark Richt several times a week. Jay attends Christ Church, a Christian prep school, and his spiritual life will factor into his college decision.
“Faith is definitely the most important thing in my life,” Jay said. “And playing football for men like Coach Richt, who also puts faith first in his life, means a lot to me.”
Jay confirmed that he likely will stick with Clemson if the current staff is retained, but admitted Georgia is making big gains.
“I’ve been praying about everything and know it all will work out for the best,” Jay said.
On Saturday, Jay will get a tour of the campus, meet with academic advisors and sit down with Richt at least twice.
Although numerous other schools, including Florida and Alabama, have tried to get involved with Jay, he said he has accepted visits to just Georgia and Clemson.
He plans to schedule a Clemson visit after the new coaching staff is hired.

Columbia RB Nathaniel Anthony pulls double duty on Florida trip
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Driving five hours and then watching one college game is exhausting. But taking in two games the same day is almost unheard of.
But that’s what Columbia tailback Nathaniel Anthony did last Saturday. He took an official visit to Florida A&M and watched the Rattlers in the afternoon, then traveled a few miles down the road in Tallahassee to watch Florida State’s evening contest.
“It was a long day, but it was a good day,” Anthony said. “I love football. I could watch it all weekend without getting tired of it.”
The 5-10, 185-pound Anthony has offers from Georgia State and Navy and said he got calls recently from Ohio State, Vanderbilt and FSU.
