20 - Yards per completion (8-for-16 for 166 yards) by Dublin’s Rashard Smith in last week’s 17-6 victory against Central Macon. Smith, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150, has offers from Alabama-Birmingham, Auburn, Georgia Southern, North Carolina State and Vanderbilt. He talked about the Irish passing game with staff writer Jay Stone.
— On big plays in the passing game: “The OL is protecting well, as they have all year, and the receivers are catching the ball. With the wing-T, you don’t get a lot of chances to throw it, and they’re getting a lot of room to run with it.”
— On an 85-yard completion to teammate Anthony Thomas: “He ran a corner route and the safety jumped the wide receiver route, and that left the middle wide open. Anthony cut back to the middle.”
— On making 16 pass attempts: “That’s the most attempts I think I’ve had this year. That’s a lot in the wing-T.”
— On why threw as much as they did: “That’s what they were giving to us, but coach [Roger} Holmes said we needed to throw the ball more.”
