Georgia Tech makes early offer to Collins Hill RB Charles Perkins

Georgia Tech has made an early scholarship offer to Collins Hill junior tailback Charles Perkins.

The 6-1, 205-pound Perkins ran for 1,245 yards this season, including a couple of 200-yard games. It was the first offer for Perkins, who also is drawing interest from UGA, Vanderbilt, South Carolina and others.

“It was a relief to get that first offer,” Perkins said. “That’s what I’ve been working up to since I was a little kid. And for it to come from a big school like that, I was really excited about it. Hopefully there are many more [offers] to come.”

Perkins, who combines size, speed and power, said Georgia Tech has been in contact with him since his sophomore year. Tech apparently was sold on Perkins after seeing a tape of Collins Hill’s first five games, sent by coach Billy Wells.

“That’s his first offer,” Wells said. “That’s not a bad one to start with.”

Perkins said playing for an in-state school would be a plus, but he’s keeping all of his options open. He just wants to go to a school with a good program and strong academics.

“I’m just going to wait and see what other offers I get,” he said. “It doesn’t matter where I go.”

Perkins said he likes running out of a pro-style offense, but Tech’s triple-option offense has its advantages. “They run the ball and that’s a plus,” he said. “You get a lot of touches through that offense.”

You’re right Bobin, UGA combines a strong program with strong academics. Tech just has a good (i.e., mediocre) football program … perfect fit.

Hey Tech Sucks -

Just couldn’t let that one go by…. got any details you’d like to share about how UGA’s academics are stronger than Tech’s?

Put down the bottle, snuff out the joint and bring it on, you poor misguided mutant.

Mr. Perkins, go to UGA where the fans will hype you up every fall and crap on you every winter when you fall short of expectations again (29 years and counting)
