SW DeKalb LB Brandon Brant waits on Georgia Southern

Brandon Brant says he played one of his best games at linebacker Friday in Southwest DeKalb’s first-round playoff win over Villa Rica.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound senior had nine tackles, three for losses, in a 27-7 win over Villa Rica in the Class AAAA playoffs.
The team, despite some mistakes, played pretty well, too, he said.
“Team-wise, we really clicked,” he said. “Once we get rid of those small mistakes, we can be unstoppable.”
Brant’s play may be good for his college recruitment, too. “Hopefully, this run in the playoffs can bring some more offers,” he said. Southwest DeKalb hosts four-loss Cedar Shoals this weekend in the second round.
So far, Brant has firm offers from Western Carolina and Army. He has cooled to the Army offer because of its high level of commitment past the football. After four years at West Point, he would have to serve in the military for five more years. With an eye on a master’s degree in History, and possibly a career as a teacher or lawyer, a traditional university is more to his liking.
“The more I look at it - I hate to say it - the less I’m interested [in Army],” he said.
Brant visited Middle Tennessee two weeks ago and expects an offer to come soon. He’s also waiting on possible offers from Western Kentucky, Georgia Southern and Furman.
