Heritage NG Melvin Jones commits to Presbyterian

Heritage nose guard Melvin Jones committed to Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., assistant coach Chris Pack said Monday.

Jones, a 6-foot, 315-pound member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150, went to Presbyterian on an unofficial visit this past weekend when they played Coastal Carolina.

Middle Tennessee, Louisville, Memphis, Central Florida and Auburn expressed an interest in Jones as well. He said all along he wouldn’t necessarily be drawn to a bigger program.

“Whichever school I felt most comfortable with, that’s the one I’m going to pick,” said Jones, who plans on majoring in business administration. “It’s not all about being an athlete. If it’s a good academic program, more than likely I’m going to like it.”
