State’s No. 1 prospect Branden Smith packing for Alabama visit
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
When you’re the No. 1 football prospect in Georgia, then there are always rumors and speculation following you around.
The lastest rumors have UGA and Florida as the frontrunners for Booker T. Washington defensive back Branden Smith, who is ranked as the state’s No. 1 prospect by the AJC and Rivals.
However, Smith claims to have no favorites out of his four finalists of UGA, Florida, Florida State and Alabama. And Smith certainly doesn’t add fuel to the UGA-Florida rumors when he speaks about his impending official visit to Alabama this weekend.
“I really like [Alabama coach Nick Saban],” Smith said. “He told me he thought I could be a ‘franchise player’ for his program. And he’s one of the best football coaches around. So when someone like that says something like that, you have to listen.”
Smith will announce his college decision on national TV from the Under Armour All-American Bowl on January 4. He has already been on an official visit to Florida, and will go to UGA on Dec. 12.

All of the schools that Brandon picked to visit are great to play football at!! To play in the best conference SEC is a honor and you would get a good education also. If you pick Alabama Saban and Kirby Smart would be your position coaches and both are very good at making defense backs even better!! Bama is probably going to get the 5 star kid out of Gasden, AL who is a lockdown cornerback and if they could Brandon that make the best cornerbacks in the SEC and in the country!! ROLL TIDE FOLKS!!

to young Mr. Smith - I know you are already aware of this but weigh in your mind the difference between a coach building /maintaining a great football program as opposed to a winning coach who has little loyalty to his school and thus his players.

Branden come on over and see what other recruits love about Tuscaloosa. One of the best college towns in the southeast. Coach Saban has a solid foundation and he showed who had the best coaching staff when we came to Athens. Roll Tide Roll!!!!!

Imagine how much fun it will be when he’s the “FRANCHISE” player at Alabama, only to see Nick Saban jump ship and resurface on the opposing teams sideline. Ask the LSU kids he recruited how it feels. Mark Richt is in it for the long haul at UGA. Come play in Athens for your home state, you won’t regret it!!!

Here is good advice! Saban plays the players that are the best on the team. It doesn’t matter how long they have been there! We started 11 freshmen this year. He knows what he is doing. He is a good man and a good coach. All of these colleges are good, but for football I pick Alabama. My son is being looked at by 12 colleges right now and he is in the 10th grade. If/when Alabama makes an offer, my son will commit to them. It is a no brainer. If you want to be the best athlete possible; go to Alabama. The education is top notch too!

I am sorry but I just HAD to laugh at the comment that Jason made about Tuscaloosa. I worked for the University of Alabama for 11 yrs…yes, I was a misplaced Bulldawg fan in T-Town. Folks, let me tell you…I loved my job there, but I would have never considered T-Town an ideal place for college life…outside of Alabama football (which has suxed until recently) what the heck is there to do there. Trust me..that scene is BORING. In fact, I recalled while working at the University many students complaining about the lack of quality of any social scene there. For the longest time all there was to do was “go to the strip” a 1/4 mile of nasty looking dives on the main drag there. They’ve built it up some in the last few years but, you know the old saying..”you can put lipstick on a pig….”

How bout FRANCHISE TEAM? When Saban reels in the #1 recruiting class this February he will have a roster to beat half the NFL teams! Braden…pull the string…and win 3-4 SEC titles and 2-3 National Championships rolling when the Crimson Elephants…BTW we are expanding our stadium to over 100K.
You saw what we already did to Georgia in Athens…wait till you see what we do to Florida in the SEC championship.

You dogs seem to think Saban is soooooo bad, yet he took a team that Shula could not beat a pee wee team with and in two short years has them 10-0 and ranked #1. Sure, they may not wind up #1, but before the start of the year I thought 7-5 or 8-4 for the season and maybe a bowl win would be their results. Saban KNOWS how too coach. He is a defense coach, thus defensive players want to play for him. They come too TTown to play for the coach and the team that can best get them prepared for the NFL. Both the GA and Fla coaches are offensive coaches. So, Saban has the upper hand in that area. Quit your whining, Bama kicked your butts and you have not lived up to the pre season #1 billing. So, live with it.

Saban does tell many recruits they are his “franchise” player. It’s typical recruitspeak.
I think Branden should abandon the SEC altogether. If you look at the facts, the ACC puts more players in the NFL than any other conference. FSU would offer immediate playing time for Branden. Mickey Andrews needs a lock down corner and FSU has definite pedigree in putting corners in the NFL: Antonio Cromartie, Samarie Rolle, Chris Hope, McFadden @ Pittsburgh, the list goes on and on. FSU would be a breath of fresh air vs. the SEC’s chest thumping here.
Branden will make the decision that is best for him and whomever gets him will be blessed—as will Branden is blessed.

FSU could offer him immediate playing time and FSU has pedigree with NFL CBs in Samari Rolle, Antonio Cromartie, McFadden @ Pittsburgh, Chris Hope, and many others. Branden will make the decision that is best for him and whomever gets him gets an instant game-changer. Best of luck to Branden and his decision.

I noticed several previous comments including mine have been deleted? What’s the reason? AJC doesn’t like “clean” comments?

Branden,
As a 92 grad from UA (the year we killed Miami in the Sugar Bowl) I am very excited to see Saban building our defense. He is also brining in tremendous offensive talent - Julio Jones, Trent Richardson, etc… - to match our defense. Things are looking very positive in Tuscaloosa. Who would have thought Saban would have us rated #1 in his second year. Imagine how strong we will be in year 4! As you already know, Saban plays the most talented players regardless of age and he coaches the DB’s. Come to Tuscaloosa and let Saban help you reach your full potential. Best of luck with your decision. Roll Tide!

Braden, I coach High School football in the State of Alabama.I have been to Coach Saban’s camps and games and will tell you.He is the most talented coach out there to get you ready for Life, and not just football. I have a step son who just finished playing for Coach Saban and he wishes he could have played more under him. He graduated with a degree and has a job now.If it were not for injuries, he would be playing in the NFL.Things happen like that and that is why I am glad Coach Saban stresses graduating and getting your degree. You and Dre Kilpatrick would be the best lock down corners in America on the same team.GA and Fla are good schools, but for your future, I put my money on Coach Saban any day.
