Basketball: Georgia Tech, UGA offer three Milton sophomores
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Seemingly every college basketball coach has at least one thing in common nowadays. They know how to get to Milton High School.
The reason behind that is the Eagles happen to have three of the nation’s top sophomores in 6-foot-7 Julian Royal, 6-3 Dai-Jon Parker and 6-2 Shannon Scott. As a result, Milton coach David Boyd’s phone is constantly ringing.
“Texas wants all three. (North Carolina) loves all three but only has one scholarship available for 2011. Georgia has offered all three, Auburn all three, Virginia Tech all three,” said Boyd.
“Georgia Tech guarantees scholarships if they commit, Tennessee loves all three, Cincinnati has offered all three. Florida loves all three but will not have three scholarships available.”
Kansas, Memphis, Kentucky and Southern Cal are among the other suitors.

My first question is where does the AJC get their information from?
I did a quick search on all 3 of these boys (Scout and Rivals) and none of them have offers from anywhere. All 3 were listed on Scout, but only Royal had colleges listed (UGA, GT and UNC) with NO offers. Parker and Scott were listed, but had no colleges at all. On the Rivals site only Parker showed up, but had no colleges listed. Royal and Scott did not even come up on the Rivals site.
Now this is not the first time the AJC has written articles like this claiming certain recruits have all these offers that are never true. Not that it really matters because these kids don’t graduate high school until 2011.

According to the article, the information came from the coach, ie, “said Boyd”. That would be Milton’s coach. Whether or not he is providing misinformation, I could not say.
I have no dog in this hunt, as I have no Milton connections nor do I know anything about these people, but you might want to read the whole article before responding to it. I have no love for the media, but in this case I fail to see a problem in what was written. Should he not have reported a quote from the coach? Maybe you wanted him to “expose” the coach as a liar by researching facts. There, you expect too much from the media, because in general they are lazy and biased. If a Republican had said “JOBS” was a three letter word he or she would be crucified, but it wasn’t reported because Biden said it. But why should reporters do their job when their customers (you) are too lazy to read the whole article…

Miller Grove beat South Atlanta by 6 in the final minutes, the Guard play helped Miller Grove pull through, with Mfon Udofia, Malcom Frank, and Adarius Fulton. Derrick Favors did his thing, but Miller Grove had a slew of Big Men to throw at him, including 6-9 Freshman Tony Parker, who stood his ground. Look for Great things from Mr. Parker, had great floor presence and footwork in the BOX. Looks very comfortable with his back to the basket. Miller Grove was up 15 at one point, when they were running past South Atlanta, the game slowed down and South Atlanta got back in it with the helpd of the fouls, Miller Grove had 3 or 4 big men foul out of the Game. Miller Grove is a better team than a 3rd place ranking by Georgia Sports (gasports.com) . They are ranked 11th in the South East by ESPN, South Atlanta is ranked number 6.

Miller Grove looked solid. South Atlanta on the other hand looked timid. Derrick Favors looked good but the team didnt help him. I hear they have two excellent guards but evidentally they didnt show up that nite.
Miller Grove has some great size and we’ll do well. As for South Atlanta…if that team shows up with Favors they will be unstoppable. And I’d like to see more floor leadership from D. Favors…he’s so humble out there!

The Rivals site and Scout site only list the colleges and offers upon the players telling the people who run the site. Scott and Royals have had active profiles on rivals for over a year now and they both of college lists up there. Secondly due to the fact that they are sophomores i believe the coach of their high school would have the best knowledge of what schools have offered rather than a website. Seeing how the college coaches talk directly to the high school and aau coaches. But if you dont believe the coach or me you can ask justin young about the three and he will inform you.

Well look here, David Boyd back at it again. I’m sure you had no trouble getting him to talk. But how in the world did you get info on these three kids during all the blabber about himself?
I certainly wouldn’t want a man with such a checkered past coaching my kids and I laugh at the thought of him representing the Milton community!

I love GT basketball, but don’t want ANYONE who is going to be at the school only one year like Mr. Favors. Remember what a hit we took when the last TWO freshmen played one year and left.

Why do all of you UGAg fans posing as Tech fans have to go racist? It’s very sad.

FYI every one of these kids will be top 50 in the country. Royal was the #1 player in the state before the summer. Scott’s father was a very good player at UNC. Parker really blew up this summer and may be the highest ranked of the 3 after a very strong summer session of AAU ball. I’d guarantee landing those 3 alone would be a top 10 class for some school, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see 2 and maybe all of them as 5 star players. Ignore what the recruiting sites have up on them right now, they just don’t put up a lot of info on sophomores, but search for articles on them on those sites and see what it says them about them in event reports.

The scholarships are real, most are verbal offers (as is often the case in bball), both Royal and Parker are rated in the top 25 in the nation in 2011 by scout.com. UNC had all three at their opening night event, Milton will be tough the next few years.

I’ve seen all three of them play. They are tough. Also, the offers are legit. Whoever gets them is going to be very lucky.
