4 — Blocked kicks this season by Newnan junior safety Alec Ogletree, who received offers from LSU and Arkansas last month to bring his total to 15. Ogletree, who has spearheaded the Cougars’ streak of four straight shutouts, talked about the Newnan defense with staff writer Jay Stone.
— On one that stands out: “I would have to say the Riverdale game. It was a field goal. I picked it up and returned it for a couple of yards. We were down and we needed a big play.”
— On what allows him to block kicks: “I just work at it in practice against our offense. I come from the outside … just get a good jump on the ball.“
— On how the shutouts have happened: “The last game I think was the best game we’ve played, against East Coweta. We stopped them on the goal line. They were like on the inch line. We’ve been getting a lot of turnovers. “
— On the scoreboard zeroes: “We call them goose egg. This Sunday coach [Robert] Herring gave us a plastic goose egg on the defense. He’s always kidding about getting the shutouts.”
— On whether he expected to be this good: I don’t know if I thought we’d be great, but I knew we would be pretty good because we didn’t lose anybody on defense.”

Alec will be a great one for a lucky school. Newnan maintains a quality program. From the Stegals to Alec, quality athletes come from Newnan.
Whether @ LB or Safety, Alec will be special. UGA will probably get him, but FSU could get him immediate PT, a very good chance of a National Title or two, and get him closer to playing on Sundays. Mickey Andrews is a legend, and so is Coach Bowden. Richt and Martinez are good guys as well. Go with your heart, Alec.

Alec is the best Safety in the country right now, even as a junior. His top college choice right now is Miami, not UGA.

Wow, I’m surprised to see Miami up there for him. Shannon is a good defensive coach, but he typically prefers the south FL kid over any other kid.
Best of luck to him, if he chooses UM.

I saw this kid play in the Riverdale game, he is a beast! I would love to see him in bulldog red, but wherever he goes, he’ll be a star. He puttin Newnan football back on the map!
