Cartersville’s Donavan Tate leaning toward UGA visit
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Note: Cartersville plays at St. Pius at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.
Cartersville’s Donavan Tate, son of former UGA tailback Lars Tate, said on Wednesday that he is leaning toward Georgia over LSU for his fifth and final official visit.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Tate postponed this weekend’s recruiting trip to Michigan for December. He already has been to Southern Cal, and will travel to North Carolina on Nov. 22 and Alabama on Nov. 29.
“My last visit is between Georgia and LSU,” Tate said. “Both of my parents went to Georgia, so there’s a tradition. I grew up as a Georgia fan and went to so many games there. I’m leaning towards visiting Georgia over LSU, we’ll see what happens.”
Tate is ranked as the No. 2 high school baseball prospect for the 2009 draft by Perfect Game. He plays quarterback and safety at Cartersville and is being recruited at both positions by all the schools.

Donavan, I remember your father quite well. He was one heck of a running back. I guess I am giving away a clue to my age. I wish you only the very best in your career regardless of your choosing. Good Luck!

Don’t be dumb. Sign and play baseball and get rich. If you don’t make it, you can take the Quincy Carter/Chris Weinke path and play football later.

I remember Lars well. I was photog for the yearbook and have a 20 x 30 from one of my pictures framed and hanging in my rec-room. It was his 50 yard run against Florida in 1985. I have another 20 x 30 of him in my computer room. Why would Donovan not want to go to UGA?

I agree with jj. Baseball is a one chance opportunity. You may have a 1 in 10 shot, but there are few negative consequences if you fail. Georgia’s backfield is crowded right now. Baseball will give you time to wait for when you could come to the Dawgs and start as a freshman once Knowshon is gone. As others have said, listen to your heart, and we all know that means “Pick GA.”

Donavan, I sat between your Dad and Freddy Lane, another great football Dawg, in sociology class. I hope you continue the Tate tradition.

Dont be silly! Forget about all that baseball rigamarow and lace up for some football. Imagine the tradion, your dad a pillar in the Dawg community, and so will you be.

Donavan, I remember your father well as most people and I had the priveledge to work with your Mom for 5 years in Kennesaw. I always enjoyed hearing your mom talk so proudly of how you were doing on your traveling team.
I just want to wish you and your family the best. Be proud, God gave you an incredible gift. Use it to the fullest! Good luck and Go Dawgs!

There is nothing like going to school in your home state but the added star is you have some many well wishers and the Dawg nation family PLUS you were born a Ga fan and we want the chance to cheer for you. Best of Luck. (Go Dawgs)

I consider Donavan a stepson, and know he will do well with what ever he does in life…my son and Donavan were best friends when they were little kids, as his mom and I were close friends, as well. Good Luck D!!! Craig and Phillip
